Guys first of you probably don't know who Joe Ladnier is. He is a powerlifting elite level legend and competed back before you guys were even born. He holds numerous titles and competed with the best ever, ie ( Coan, Wright, etc and the list goes on). The guy is in he forties and still pushing serious weight.

@Cmac1000rr I used a single ply shirt in training years ago and got 385 at a bodywght of 165. At that time I could get 345 raw. I never used a shirt in competition because I think they are a joke. My best RAW bench in competition was 410 at a bodyweight of 181. I'm not saying this Joe Ladnier dude isn't strong, but whats the point of bouncing the weight for a bunch of half reps while using a bench shirt? Especially when this shirts main advantage is to make the weight light "off the chest"

Do a little research and you might find that people looking to build muscle and strength in their pecs usually don't lock out. The reason is the triceps tire a lot quicker than the chest does. Locking out is all triceps, not chest. Watch some videos of most top bodybuilders and you'll see they don't usually lock out except if they're doing the rest/pause method in order to go to failure.

I'm maxed out at 360 but because of that, I feel I'm able to comment on a publicy uploaded video about how my technique is the dog's balls and this is pretty bad. @Cmac1000rr I used a single ply shirt in training years ago and got 385 at a bodywght of 165. At that time I could get 345 raw. I never used a shirt in competition because I think they are a joke. My best RAW bench in competition was 410 at a bodyweight of 181. I'm not saying this Joe Ladnier dude isn't strong, but whats the point of bouncing the weight for a bunch of half reps while using a bench shirt? Especially when this shirts main advantage is to make the weight light "off the chest"

I dunno man...yes it is 405...but the bench shirt is made to eliminate the chest effort by alot.....i mean, look at ppl with bench shirts, pressing over 600.....they start off with a good kick from the shirt, then they start to struggle on lock out.

@barhab What's so ridiculous about it? Let me guess, because he didn't lock out, right? Do a little research and you might find that people looking to build muscle and strength in their pecs usually don't lock out. The reason is the triceps tire a lot quicker than the chest does. Locking out is all triceps, not chest. Watch some videos of most top bodybuilders and you'll see they don't usually lock out except if they're doing the rest/pause method in order to go to failure.

I'm maxed out at 360 but because of that, I feel I'm able to comment on a publicy uploaded video about how my technique is the dog's balls and this is pretty bad. @JohnGolbunny You no idea what you are talking about. A 2ply bench shirt will take up to 80% of the weight off in the lower half of the lift. So he is essentially bouncing 20% of 405lbs 40 times, its still impressive that he can handle 405 though.

You know what though... even without the bench shirt, this lift is utter crap. I noticed you guys talking about the shirt, but before that what I saw was a doof bouncing the weight on his chest like a basket ball.
Sure, the shirt does not take 80%, but it helps a fair bit in that range of motion. The bouncing is even worse. Between the two... not much of a lift.
And I would say any semi knowledgeable lifter would know how much it helps to use your rib cage like a trampoline.

Of course he is bouncing it off his rib cage, plus he is limiting the ROM to where the bounce and the bench shirt really help.

And of course its possible - he is dropping it from a very short distance, offering some resistance to control the bounce, and using a bench shirt, which is particularly helpful in that range.
