When Gary Jules does it, he changed the tempo and added a haunting piano melody, delivering the lyrics as a plea for help, or relief. So I love both versions.

Thanks for reposting this. Youtube took down this video before, for some strange reason. It rocks, while the Gary Jules version sort of depresses you. I think it was intended not as just a sad song, about being defeated, as the Gary Jules does it (which is beautiful and haunting in it's own rite), But the original was more about about defiance of defeat, over coming it, sitting back and laughing at the absurdity of it all..It's about fighting back. Or at least that's the feeling I get from it.

These are raw emotions, pure source of lyrics and meaning.Other version is great but it's whole different song. This one has chaos, despair and clumsy imperative to react. Gary Jules version observe world, with saddens, loneliness and without will to react.

In this two versions we see different state of mind in 80s vs. 90s and 2000s youngsters. New version reflect slowly dying inside and feel of powerless, transforming young rebels from 60s,70s & 80s into observers and conformist. Dead World.

The main plaudits always go to the songwriter, in my view. If people like the Gary Jules version (as I do), then it just confirms how good the song is.

Plus this version has the king of dancing... so it's clearly the best.
