The 'bug' where the sticky piston doesnt pull back the block only happens when the piston is facing East or West, North and South it still works...my minecraft is 1.7.3
When the piston is facing East or West it won't pull back the block, that's right. But what FelkCraft meant, was, that if you switch the clock OFF, it might happen, that the piston won't pull back the block, so you can't start it again.
it can be done easier!1. place a piston 2. dig under your feet 3. place redstone there 4. place next to the redstone an lever 5. place a block on the redstone 6. enjoy!
sorry for my bad english. Thumbs up! IT works with 1.7.2 and 1.7.3!
@Professorben112 It's no side effect. The lever powers the cobblestone block which conducts the current to the piston. The piston pushes away the cobblestone and gets no longer powered and pulls back the cobblestone. The cobblestone gets powered again and conducts the current to the piston, and so on, and so on.
@SchahinSchah No this is wanted, because it caused the duplication bug. Jeb said: "The 1.7.3 dupe bug fixes seem to break stable 1-tick clocks using pistons. Oh well, pistons aren't supposed to move that fast anyway ;)". Can be fixed by slowing it down or building it vertical with sand.
reminds me of some kind of sex machine... but this was what i needed to complete my alarm system; thank you

Oh, no, it's not that kind of clock, you can't read it like a normal real life clock. It's just called clock, because it gives a constant signal.

Oh and by the way, this is probably the most space/redstone efficient design i have seen (esp. since my repeater clocks won't work)

@giannistek1
Not bad! And quite fast and compact, too. But unfortunately the problem FelkCraft described does exist in this design, too.

I can't wrap my mind around how this works. Is there some sort of physics to the behavior of pistons + redstone, or is this just an odd side effect?

Since 1.7.3 it could push the block just away when you switch it off, so it doesnt work properly anymore :(

@FelkCraft Seems to be a bug, maybe Notch will fix it in the next update.
