It's important that a countercurrent note be sounded, else viewpoints become hidebound! Yes, there was some press-out. No, it should not be DQ'd for that. He got the load to locked arms overhead. That should be enough. It should prove harder to press out than to jerk perfectly. Is elbow touch to knee still a DQ in earlier phase? It should not be. Sloppy perhaps. But let the lifter rise however he can as long as he does it alone. Pisarenko & Taranenko might dispute this was a WR.
there was no press out. he doesn't have a very strong lock out but the elbow movement was too slight to matter. you cant help but want weller to win though, he's definitely a more charismatic lifter
@drum333cory where the elbows don't lock initially. The jerk is supposed to be a single motion from the clean, from chest to lock in one motion, whereas both of his elbows minorly readjusted whilst the weight was placed over his head.
He made that look so easy and that's 573 lbs. Check out Leonid Taranenko 265.5 WR Clean & Jerk. He had a little more trouble jerking it but it was 584 lbs and that record still stands.
steroids play small part in it, lol WTF!!!!! steroids play a big part especially in ronnie collamens life that guy is on hardcore steroids day and night hes got steroid pills under his pillow. He does train a lot but he also takes lot of steroids that why he looks like a slob of musle he is 2 huge and disqusting, did u know that woman get scared of him!
I remember how sorry I felt for Ronny Weller, because he was my favourite lifter, but this is a good lift, and it is no disgrace to be beaten by someone who lifts 260 kg in c&j.
what does a lifter in your club have anything to dow ith anything. steroids are EVERYWHERE... If your claim is who ever is number 1 gets tested the most, Then Mariusz probably ISNT on steroids lol. people just say he is so his credibility of being the strongest ever is lost.
lol you think olympic weightlifters dont juice?? you're crazy. They have 4 years to prepare.. they juice for 2 years and are off after that and into olympics.
that doesnt make sense, if you juice, and then stop it takes a long time for your body to recover and in that time your lifts have fallen dramatically
what do you mean? No offense but you dont know what you're talking about. You can keep 90% of gains when you come off if you take the right stuff after. Also, if you train the same, you will not lose anything. I have olympic friends that have actually competed (2004 Athens). they have told me this, its true.
Bot you know, The olympics isn't heir only competitons, they got nationals, continental, world championships etc, which are all tested. But still You can be sure that probably all(or atleast the msot) of elite olympic lifters juice, but not in the way you said.
he did pressed e little whith his left but still thats a god lift if there would be a pause between the beginning and the end of the pres then you could call a press but here you can obviosly see that he is pressing straight trought all the way which makes it a good lift
well he did compete when Rezazadeh was competing. In 2000 sydney. But he was 10 kg behind Rezazadeh in the snatch so he would have had to lift 600 pounds to win which obviously he didn't make. Ronnie Weller was close to beating Rezazadeh though in 2000.
The lift was fine. His arms may wobble a bit, but his elbow definetely did not unlock.Remember, the judges have to make a split second call, the lifter should always heve the benefit of the doubt. After all why should some lifters have the advantages of having double jointed elbows and others don't.They still defy gravity identically
I also agree, and I have been a referee at several OL meets. There was a wobble, but the elbow must completely unlock and relock to get a red there - which didn't happen here. Plus we have to remember, this is the Olympic Games - the ref's usually only give red's if there is a pretty obvious infraction.
At worst, he'd maybe get a red from the center judge, but whites from the side ref's and it'd still be a good lift.
it's kinda funny seeing the look of dismay on ronny weller's face just after he had celebrated so wildly after his 255kg. maybe he was just celebrating a PR?...
It definitely looked like a press out to me but they gave it to him. His record stood for a long time until they changed the weight classes in 1998. Damn shame...
THat's a press out:
