Both actresses give extremely different (and wonderful!) performances in the role...however, I find Pia's to be to the stronger of the two, as I feel her transitions through life are better than Maya's.
I actually find Maya's portrayal more historically accurate. She portrays Elisabeth as neurotic, chronically unhappy and with a persecution complex, which is pretty much who she was in reality.

it's a fact the cast oft the version from 2003 to 2005 had been the best ever!!!serkan kaya as lucheni and of course andre bauer as franz joseph!!!mate kamaras as Tod was also great!!

In this act Sophie is telling Elisabeth that she has to be more disciplined. She tells her that her teeth are not white enough, that she can't do horseback- riding anymore, that she has to accept the ceremonial.
Sophie thinks Elisabeth has to be tamed. Elisabeth says that everything she wants is forbidden and she thinks Sophie is envious. She asks Franz- Joseph for help, but he just says that it would be better for the both of them if she would accept the advice of his mother.
She was brilliant enough for the composer and the librettist to call her their favorite to this day. And they know the role A LOT better than some Maya fanatic.
Untrue. The opinion of the composer and the librettist is just that: an opinion. And it doesn't mean everyone with a different opinion must change theirs to match the composer or the librettist. Everyone is entitled to his opinion; nobody has to know a role deeply to have a valid opinion, period. And I daresay some fans probably know the role just as well as the composer and the librettist. It's all about personal preference.

Der Part "...eine Kaiserin muss glänzen!" ist hier sehr kraftvoll gesungen, schade dass die Videoqualität nicht besser ist.
Früher hätte es 3-4* gegeben, aber da man jetzt nur noch 5* (Mag ich) oder 1* geben kann, gibt es das Mag ich von mir.

I prefer Maya as Elisabeth, but like Pia too.
But Else Ludwig is the one and only Sophie for me. She has such an intensive presence on stage, its amazing.
Can you imagine Pia as Sophie? It would definitly an interesting thing...

Maybe she wasn't too great in the earliest production, but Pia has really improved over the years and is not at all a bad Elisabeth.
