Obviously a pilot for an unsold series that WOULD have been co-produced by Paramount and CBS. It just so happens that the network decided to take Ziv's "MEN INTO SPACE" for the fall of 1959 instead of going with this one. Still, an early attempt by Paramount to sell at least ONE TV show to a broadcast network at the time...
Excellent find. I never knew that CBS and Paramount existed in 1959. NTA and UM&M had the TV rights for the pre-50 Paramount cartoons except the live action ones as well as the Popeye shorts made by AAP. Harvey had the TV rights to the post-50 Paramount cartoons as well before Paramount sold the TV rights to Desilu in the mid-60's.
They made a few tries early on: this unsold pilot, for one. They later worked with NBC, letting them use their studios for a couple of shows in the 50s, a shortlived sitcom called "Sally", then "Bonanza". CBS used the Paramount studios for "Have Gun Will Travel". Paramount never really took off as a TV studio until buying out Desilu in the mid-60s.
Paramount Television Attempted To Be Into Television back in 1955. along with United Artists,Warner Bros,MGM and 20th Century-Fox. Columbia ventured into Television in 1947. MCA's Revue Ventured into TV in 1947. Desilu in 1951. Four Star In 1951.
This particular attempt was in 1959. This is unusual in that the closing credits say "Produced by Paramount Pictures in association with CBS" as opposed to "A CBS Production Filmed at Paramount Studios".
First try? No, because the REAL first try occurred when Paramount Pictures joined forces with Mutual Broadcasting to form Telemount (Mutual) Productions.
P.S.: I've never seen this ultra rare CBS Productions logo. Thanks for this one!
And yet, Paramount's television units are now known as CBS Television Studios, CBS Television Distribution and CBS Studios International, repsectively.
@littlesquare2005 but this is rare

This version of the CBS eye can still be seen on several episodes of "Gunsmoke" on Encore Westerns.

How prophetic, CBS and Paramount would be one decades later, then split, then CBS took over the Paramount television division.
