Ok, my problem is that when i press R then there is a lot f HISSSS coming out of the speakers, what should I do? What settings do I need to change? In all youtube videos everything is explained like it's so simple but noone seems to be making tutorials including all the problems you may have when setting it up. I am using iMAC, Rode NT1-A and Saffire 6 soundcard. Help.
@TheRversed You know that it plays everything that comes in directly to the speakers? If that isn't the problem there might be cables that have a radial clearance (the cable is able to move around, usually it involves "scratchy" sounds). Also, you might have the microphone too close to the speaker.
I just purchased this online about 10 minutes ago, so I haven't started using it yet because it's still installing....but what tips would you give to beginners? I have a so-so mic right now, and an electronic keyboard. Any advice in the environment I'm recording in? My bedroom is fairly small, but I don't know if it's better to record in a walk-in-closet or what-not. Thanks! Great vid by the way!
@leaverlin Hey.... Do you mean MIDI keyboard?? You will most like want one of those... I'd say do a test with your mic... Sing into the mic when it is in your room, and then sing into your mic when it is in the walk-in closet to hear the difference... Your voice may sound a little thick/better in the closet just because there isn't to much reverb (your room will have more), but if you can't hear a difference then your room should be fine. Check out my playlist on Logic Pro Tutorials. Read on.
@leaverlin Read my other comment first and then continue here.. Now back to the answer!! You will find some good beginner videos on that playlist... If you have any questions you can always me!! You chose one of the best DAWs!!!
awesome videos, keep it up! Just wondering how i can use the standard crappy MacBook Pro mic for records, don't mind about the quality it's kind of what we're goin' for
@FortKnoxMusic All you have to do it is create a mono audio track and select Input 1 as the input... The laptops mic will default to input 1 and 2 if you don't have an interface plug-in. Just make sure the input of your mic is loud enough in the Apple settings... Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey Adam, could you do some more beginner videos please??? I am getting Logic very soon and would like some cool tricks, tips and simple stuff to help me get along. Love your stuff!
im thinking of getting a macbook pro, which software do you think is smoother logic pro 9 or pro tools 9? also do you know if addictive drums works on pro logic?
i have a line going into my iMac mic input and my guitar at the other end but its recording everything in the room through the mic on the mac , not through the guitar wire. what am i doing wrong???
Hi, I use saffire pro 24 plus Logic pro 8 ... I can't record and listen to the recorded project while the device is on .. what's wrong? I installed audio interface and logic has detected it ... I don't know what to do!! waiting for your reply, thanks.
hey adam, wen i'm recording i can hear my voice and all and my level on my interface is like in the middle but when i go record into logic i can't see any waveforms, and if there is it's very small. but, if i click on the the track 2 bring up hyper editor nd clik normalize then the waveforms and levels go all crazy. any idea why this would happen? i'm havin a hard time editing, especially vocals cuz i can't see d waveforms. :)
@imamusicmogul oh nevermind, haha i didn't know there was a little waveform button on the bottom corner and it was turned off so that's why i couldn't see my waveforms. anyways, love the tuts man, ur channel is like my school.. keep em coming. :)
Adam, great info you are providing to everybody. My question is....when creating a new Audio track and I start recording, I can see the Piano Roll and Score while I'm recording, but once I stop the recording they both go away. So how do I get them to remain on screen so I can edit parts on the Piano Roll screen and even print out a score sheet? Thanks
Hi, if i want to record tracks separately for example a 2 different vocals with the same mic with input 1, do i need to create a separate audio track with the SAME input?
@machicniii Yes you can create as many tracks as you would like with the same input... So lets say you do your main vocals on one tracks... And then you create another track with the same input and you can record another sets of vocals!! Just make sure you record one track at a time. Let me know if that answers your question....
@TheLostRelic Then you can get a Audio Interface.. There are some good one that I would recommend from M-Audio... Easy set-up, clean sound and affordable as well... Let me know if you have any questions on purchasing an interface...
How do you remove the metronome? and when i click record i hear my voice echoing alot. How do i remlve the echo plugin because it is on and idk how o take it off lol
@SherezM0617 You can!!! You just need an interface with multiple inputs (enough inputs per mics) and several mics... How many mics would you think you need??
ok i have literally just bought logic studio 9 and i only have a small amount of experience. i have a midi interface which is an m-audio mini. and i also play guitar. i have plugged my guitar in directly in to my macbook pro into the stereo mini jack and i cannot figure out how to make logic read that. but i can get it to work fine on garage band. help
@MrJacobOlson True.. You would need two stereo microphone. But you will get almost the same effect if you duplicate the tracks as well just make sure you pan and treat the different audio tracks as left and right.. I like to record the vocals in mono as my delays and reverb always ends up filling the stereo spectrum... Let me know if you have any other questions..
Adam, I'm new to the scene on producing. i have logic pro 9, M Box Mini interface. im trying to record but i can not hear the instrumental on my speakers. But if i connect my headphones to my interface i can hear the beat. also i can hear myself when im on the microphone threw my headphones but when i record no audio signal records it's just blank. any help would be appreciated
@FlowBility did you connect your speakers to the MBOX Mini?? When an audio interface is plugged into Logic, all inputs and outputs must go through the MBOX.. That is why you can hear yourself through the headphones. Make sure that you record arm the tracks you want to record vocals and when you hit record it will record whatever is coming through that input.. Let me know if any other questions!!!!
Thank you so much for your helpful reply. The advice you give is priceless cos sometimes it's difficult to find the help on these details, without being ridiculed. Musicians want the technique and you encourage this admirably.
@flyguy206 then when you plug it in you should only have one input.. If it is not picking it up you might have to change the audio input in your audio settings...
@biggareid Most vocals are recorded in mono. You are right about the stereo field though.. Multiple takes of the same vocal (layering) is usually done to get that thick sounding wide stereo sound. Mostly all instruments is recorded in mono as well but some instruments may have different mics placed on them... Not for the stereo purpose but for the purpose of getting a nice sounding full tone, as different mic placement will give you different tones. Let me know if that answers your question!!
Thanks. What is a good level to keep when recording ? I try to not peak over -10dB and keep it averaging around -16dB. Is that too cautious ? Or does it depend on the amount of processing that will be added afterwards ? i.e Compression/ effects etc...Thanks.
@logixish That is a good range to stay in. You want something that you will be able to work with at the end of the day. Just make sure you don't clip! whats the difference between stereo and mono recordings when it comes to vocal singing?
