The mistake Hitler made in WWII was fighting a two front war. If the UK had been invaded and conquered, the Nazis would have developed the atomic bomb eventually as scientists captured in the UK would have been employed to work on it's development. Yes, a US invasion prior to 1955 may have been a fantasy, but the Nazis would have held the US to ransom if they had developed the atomic bomb.
Of course Germany could've won the war, but in no way could they had launched an assault with ground forces on the US. Perhaps they could've bombed the east coast, NY and DC, if they had finished their long range strategic bombers, and thereby forced the americans to peace talks (If Britain and the Soviets had surrendered). But they could never invade the US, just like the US could never ever have invaded the Nazi empire if it weren't for the bases they had in britain.

The mistake Hitler made in WWII was fighting a two front war. If the UK had been invaded and conquered, the Nazis would have developed the atomic bomb eventually as scientists captured in the UK would have been employed to work on it's development. Yes, a US invasion prior to 1955 may have been a fantasy, but the Nazis would have held the US to ransom if they had developed the atomic bomb.

Of course Germany could've won the war, but in no way could they had launched an assault with ground forces on the US. Perhaps they could've bombed the east coast, NY and DC, if they had finished their long range strategic bombers, and thereby forced the americans to peace talks (If Britain and the Soviets had surrendered). But they could never invade the US, just like the US could never ever have invaded the Nazi empire if it weren't for the bases they had in britain.

If Germany won the WWII the auto companies owned by the government. Union thugs would run the working class and control big business. Many freedoms would be eliminated. Hitler was 50 years old when WW2 started and probably would've been ineligible for the military due to his wounds from WW1. Churchill was 65. Roosevelt was 59 and couldn't friggin walk, much less fight. Besides, the head of state's role in modern war is to make national strategic decisions, not to be out there with a rifle.

In modern warfare, where clashes between armies produce millions of casualties, the head of state shouldn't be out there on the front lines with a gun. His place is in the capital making strategic decisions, meeting with allied leaders, rallying the civilians in support of the war effort, etc.

@5hitter And for the record, commanding an army makes you a general, not a head of state. Hannibal still had to answer to the Carthigian Senate and, at one point, was ordered back to Carthage from Italy.
Men like Alexander and Leonidas could do what they did because of the nature of war at the time. Orders could only be sent from a short distance and only one army was in the field. Compare that to WW2, with armies spread all over the globe.

Your views of what a "real leader" should do in time of war are simply insane given what war looks like today and would be a disaster for any nation whose leader did that. A head of state who's on the front lines with a rifle can't be making the decisions he needs to be making not only about war matters, but everything else a national leader has to deal with.

The Nazis were pretty unique in the fact that they didn't have any rich groups or powerful interests to help them get to the top. They depended almost entirely on popular anger over Germany's treatment after the Great War.

Ha! So the problem that you have is that you don't like the name of our country. The United States is a federal republic. Basically that means their are 50 semi-autonomous states whose laws are superseded by the federal government in Washington, DC. A state is not a country and I can change my state residence in 30-90 days (depending on the state). While states issue drivers licenses, they cannot issue passports nor grant Visas. States must resolve disputes by Federal Courts.

In fact, Europe has used the model similar to United States to form a trading block of countries known as the E.U. (European Union) which is comprised of 27 member states. There's only once currency called the Euro and each state gives up some of it's autonomy after joining the EU. The difference between the EU and the United States is that the EU is not a country...yet.

You may contend that people from the USA should call themselves United States of Americans which makes no sense at all. That's why we are known as Americans. It has nothing to do with US citizens thinking they own North and South America. Think about the country South Africa. Citizens from S.A. are known as South Africans, but people from Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, and Lesotho could also say they are South Africans. Actually, it was the STG-44...I don't know where people keep calling it the MP because it's not. MP stands for machinenpistol and STG stands for Sturmgewehr. STG = Assault rifle and MP = SMG.

The reason it is often called the mp-44 or mp-43 because they were the official designations of earlier versions of the weapon. The story goes it was developed without Hitler's knowledge because Hitler was opposed to concept of the weapon and It wasn't until Hitler was accidentally told about the weapon and had a chance to test it out himself was it renamed the stg-44 for propaganda purposes.
