1) One of the most underrated artists of the last 15 years.
2) The album is amazing, but from this performance, it seems she wasn't very good live, IMO.
3) Wiki says she was involved in some kind of contract dispute with her old label, and may or may not come back with a new release. I for one would welcome it.
great singer/song. sorry to say tho but i think the dj's cheesey 'ebba ebbas' ruined this live performance. plus the keyboard player did some bad string parts on the chorus. everything else great!
Not a bad live performance, although as stated a better studio artist. Doesn't change the fact that I really like her, especially the 2nd album, and sad that very few people seem to know of her......
@lazytrini this video would have been removed for copyright infringement the day it was put up if it weren't for the dumbass "Greg Schmilborne" label; and also, if something that trite is preventing you from sharing the video, then you're just a jackass.
Does anyone know what's going on with her now? Is she ever going to put out another album? I know she was in record company hell for years. I hope she makes some new stuff-- she's great.
If you read the clip description you would see that I spelled his name wrong to prevent the video from being removed from YouTube for copyright issues.
I have always been a fan of Poe. Every once in awhile I check online for updates and there is literally nothing! What is she doing? Where is she?? She is horribly missed in the music scene right now. We need her talent, her angelic gorgeous voice and presence now!!!!!! :(
Haunted is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time! It's powerful and passionate. I read an interview online years and years ago where she discussed the album and the recordings of her father in it. I wish I could find it again. She is amazing! I always hope for moe Poe!
POE RULES!!! What a shame that this disc never got a push from the label. Great from end to end. I put it in the CD player in my car in 2001 and it's been in ever since. Saw her in 2002 at a small club...phenomenal show
Haunted truly is a phenomenal album. and the fact that she produced it truly shows what a great artist and writer she is. but doing these songs live must be hard. there were a lot of harmonies and tracks in every song on that album. still amazing though!
Sorry dude, but When i watch Kilborn, I'm not there to be "rocked out." A subdued more spritual presentaion of the song is more appropriate for the venue...
Poe is one person - not a "them" - and she has been on a very long hiatus. She had issues with her label and no one really knows what her intentions are in terms of projects in the future. We all basically just have to wait and see.
I've liked Poe for a long time now, and love Haunted, both album and song, but this performance lacked. I just watched the Hall of Fame video too, and thought it was sub-par. The band and Annie don't give off any sense of passion and it's just a great song being played in a mediocre fashion.
I didn't think so either. But she got passionate at the end, I think. It's not the best performance I've seen, but I've heard good things about her live. So I can't judge.
I love Poe, though. Her music is so literary. It's nice. =]
Alright, maybe I'm pushing it a little, but everytime I see anything live by her, NOT including TV, I can't think of anything but how incredible she is on stage, and how wrong some of the people on this thread are. I objectively looked at the Kilborn clip again, and put myself in a novice's chair , and I think the comments on this video are accurate as far as them being derived from this clip ONLY, and the conclusions you arrived at and bonded over are presumptuous. (cont.)
I saw this tour here in Dallas. She was opening for Depeche Mode. I thought it was excellent. No need to run around on the stage acting like a nut, given the material she performed. The album is called Haunted, not Rock Acrobatics. That night, the lighting, the sound (especially the sound!) and the general vibe in the arena was, for lack of a better word, perfect. I met her and Mark Z, at a booksigning earlier that day. You could tell she was diggin' the tour!
I have to say, having reviewed many of her TV performances over the last month, that I may not entirely disagree if I hadn't seen her live in person. It seems like her TV appearances have been plagued by faulty vocals and boring stage arrangement. Pity.
Pity indeed. Glad another fan agrees as most fans of artist are blind. I like to see the good as well as the faults. Its like love. Its never good to be too blind.
I could not agree more, and I have gotten in trouble many times with fan communities of artists who I love because I like to discuss both the good AND th bad. People do become so obsessed with an artist that they can't be honest with themselves; or else they just don't know better. I have always felt Poe was a quality studio musician more than a live performer. Or alternately, that her albums sound nothing like her live shows. That's not necessarily bad, mind you...
I do agree on Poe being a better studio musician as suppose to being live. I am still obsessed with "Haunted"...well really all her stuff. It goes into each decade quite nicely.
PoesTruePsycho, I just wanted to check to see if this video had been upoaded already, because it's VERY rare, and a cool rendition of "Haunted". That's the beauty of YouTube; you can find rarities like this instantly. Is your version in stereo? I think it may have been broadcast in mono. Poe seemed to think the whole thing sounded like shit, so I should take her word for it (she's a genius producer -"Haunted's a fucking aural masterpiece), but I thought I'd ask...
Great song, and the sound didn't bother me. It was the performance and I've seen enough to know the energy seeems to be the same. I enjoy her work(just finished listening to "Hello") but she has no stage presence. As far as the energy is in the music if I go to a show I want the artist to rock out so I can get some of that energy she has. If I just wanted music energy I'd stay home and play the album alone, no? Anyway, she's great and I hope she come back. A true fan knows not only perfection:)
There is no way anyone could possibly have written your last couple of responses after seeing the video response I made. Even if you have a short attention span, you can probably watch the second song which begins halfway through, and get the idea...if you you're still unimpressed, you are brain dead, and there is no hope for you. Go watch Big White or something.
Ultimately its my opinion. I like her music and if she gets around to making more I'll likely buy it but her performances are a snore to me. I love many artist and I love what they bring live. "For me" Poe just doesn't bring it live.
I there to see her live...if I want music energy I'd stay home and put the record in, no? Listen, she's brilliant, but when ever I've seen her play live its always this slow type thing she'll have going on. I get the theme "Haunted" but she could have done more. Listen I like alot of artist but if they are not bringing the best in all aspects I can see that and not be so in love with them that I cannot. I am sure most artist would prefer to hear whats wrong then always be told everythings ok:)
