@NONstopNINJA5 - Hello. Final Cut Express will run on the G4 but not very well. you would at least want to upgrade the hard drive to a faster rpm one, as well as add ram. I suggest either go with an Aluminum PowerBook G4, or use iMovie HD 06 on the ibook g4.

nice vid. im getting a 933mhz g4 here and will be upgrading the memory to 1gb, perhaps installing leopard. will be using it for youtube, browsing internet, garage band, downloading music and pics basically. will it be fast enough for all this? no gaming on it, i have a new macbook if i wanna do that. this will be for the gf, hehe. also, is there a big difference in speed from 933mhz to 1.42mhz? they seemed quite a big difference in price. thanks!

@nicknasty14 Im not from macunwired, but the 1.42 has a significant speed jump, and also, youtube might become verry choppy, so nothing over 420p, and if possible, use youtube lite.

G4 is just a little better. G3 still gets the jobs done, but a little slower, with OS X. But if you want a faster G3 max out the RAM and maybe install a lighter, older version of OS X like Jaguar, Panther, or Puma, (even 9.x), and your ibook will be screamin' in no time.

This is the perfect comparison, both units are 800 Mhz, to make it fair. I've wondered what the actual performance difference between the G3 and G4 really was (besides a faster clock speed) If you want to see a similar comparison, try watching my video comparing a iBook G3 next to a Windows Vista machine..

I suggest a G4 if you are going to be doing any video work. If you want to have a faster computer for the video stuff, I would highly suggest looking at the intel MacBooks.

probably just capturing videos off my xbox 360 with a dazzle and browsing the web um i would rather not spend more than like $600-700 but if i have no other reliable choice than i could always save up more money

You may want to make sure Dazzle is compatible with Macs... if not, I know pinnacle has a capture DEVICE for macs.

If you can afford to spend $600-700, I would HIGHLY suggest an intel core 2 duo MacBook. Be sure to get at least 2.0GHZ and a core 2 duo. For 700, you should get the core 2 duo, not the core duo.

Most iBooks do come with iMovie for editing videos. There is no built in webcam on the iBooks, but you can use any firewire webcam with them.

How much RAM can a G3 support; How big of a Hard Drive?

The G3 can support 640MB Max... it has one slot that will hold PC 133 144pin RAM. The largest size RAM is 512MB. The G3's have either 64MB or 128MB onboard.

The HD can go up to 120GB as far as I know. They won't recognize anything larger than a 120, even if you put something bigger in them.

The max RAM on an iBook G4 is 1.25GB. With a 1GB chip installed in the memory slot, and 256 built in.

I had an Ibook G4 1.2ghz it had max ram of 1.25gb. I think its the powerbook g4 that could handle 1.5gb

The 1.2 ghz max out at 1.25, the 1.33 and 1.42 max out at 1.5GB. The only difference is the amount of RAM that is soldered onto the motherboard. But you are right about the PowerBooks! Most Aluminum's maxed at 1.5-2GB. But there are some that max at 1.25.

you can defiantly tell the iBook g3 and iBook G4 apart. I mainly identify them with the keyboards if i can't see the ibook name

The only bummer with using the keyboard to tell the difference is that some people buy the G4 keyboard to replace their iBook G3's keyboard. I actually have a video with some different ways to tell the difference between the G3 and the G4.
