regardless of if you think modern day wrestlers are lame or it is watered down pg-13 crap there is one difference for sure - the fans. just look at all these old videos, the fans are so into it, now you barely get a pop out of them, NOTHING like it was.
It's hilarious how Vince had to cajones to call it the largest television audience in WWF history even then they couldn't possibly have known that until after that night. Though his prediction was right, to this day they have yet to surpass the rating they got. Even in Steve Austin and the Rock's hay day, they never came close to touching the number of people watching this broadcast.
I remember this on TV and it was the most electric moments in sports entertainment. The actual matches between Hogan/Andre & Savage/Honky were pretty bad. But, the audience was so hot that the crappy quality of the matches didn't matter.
Feb. 5 1988 This was when Andre pinned Hogan from a paid off twin of Ref Earl/Dave Hebner. Andre gave the belt to Ted Dibiase who was then stripped of it by "Wwf president Jack Tunney" which caused the Wrestlemania 4 tournament for the undisputed champion, which was won by Macho Man Randy Savage.
I agree with gottalock. I also had this on Beta back in "88 and remember seeing Hulk doing squats with what became Jake "The Snake" Roberts entry music.Nice to watch just before a workout.
@threat62 This was February 5th, 1988 Just a couple of weeks after the very first Royal Rumble. I remember because it featured the first Hogan/Andre rematch since Wrestlemania 3 and it was the night of the infamous 2 Dave Hebner's incident.
do you have the full intro? I remember watching this and Jesse saying "what honky's gonna do with Elizabeth when it's all over, not even I know that!".
That was an edit by me....I deleted the part where....after the intro...they say "Here's some footage on the Hulkster training for the match"....and they show Hogan working out for about a minute. I wanted the quality of the video to be good for this intro, so I cut it out, but left the final flex Hogan does after his workout.
"Comments, McMahon? I don't deal in comments, I deal in facts!" - Jesse Ventura. In his 2004 WWE HoF speech, "The Body" gave due credit to professional wrestling for giving him a public forum to speak his mind that would serve him well in political career. It truly is awesome to know the Bod will never forget his sports-entertainment roots.
Guess i had plenty of time huh? didn't upload any wrestling one's, but I have one in mind...check me out later...I'll work on it soon. promise this time.

Its funny back then they didnt need to amp up the fake crowd. No matter what everyone thought about it, the crowd really got behind the shows.
Wrestling will never hit this level of excitment again.
