To anyone wondering how long I've played this game: I got to level 41 when I realized there was nothing else to gain from doing quests. I either got gold or a crappy and bland weapon for every quest I completed.
I tried playing as different races a few times, but that didn't bring anything new to the mix either.
I don't mean to sound like a total jerk, but Bethesda should've worked on the quests, weapons and armor more.
The soundtrack could've been better too. I'll watch the podcast.
I do understand where you're coming from, but I mostly had issues with the 'lack of seasoning', if you will. The armor sets in the game are incredibly bland, heck, even the dragons are a bit disappointing.
The biggest problem this game has, is the boring main quest, which ended abruptly with the dragons flying away.
Not only that, but the same weapons you could find in Oblivion (like Ebony Blade) have returned. To be honest, I was hoping for something new, instead of a facsimile of Oblivion.

@dadadannn Amen,i prefer a rich narrative with branching story lines and decisions.Give me in depth NPC's as a bonus and i am happy.Skyrim has none of this the open world is let down by the rubbish content in the game.
@nash3timemvp yeah and i think it's ridiculous that your chracter just happens to be the chosen person for EVERY single faction. and after 3 quests for each faction you are all of a sudden the leader. it is just too casual for my liking
Elder Scrolls titles are far from RPGs that comfort you in a sudden. Tho Skyrim is much beginners friendly compared to other ES titles. Bethsoft really mastered this. Obviously most critics about this game come from very young gamers, and I think that is ok. reading the lore is one essential part of any ES. the books are well to read in Sykrim, and fun. What the youngsters not know, is how much furbished the title is underneath. I would argue the rated mature makes sense in this case.
@marshyelloh I took me me 3 years as Ultima, Bard Tale, FF, etc experienced RPG player to take note on how complex the ES is beneath its surface. Luckily Skyrim catched up in terms of graphics, which were most backward in development. Now, the CK offers RPG devs to even master on RPG elements. But what does that say to you, if your preliminaries are different? True RPG addicts will find ES for what it is. It may sound stupid, but ES reuqires some dedication. It is a complex beast!
Solutions. Dark? Turn up the brightness, Books? Leave em on the floor if you hate them i don't read either man high five!, Crafting armor,weapons,potions,enchantments is what is apart of most rpgs, and you should expect that its called farming, also magik is overpowered, so is every over class, built right you can make master difficulty easy and mage is actually the weakest but there all possible to be unstoppable but its alot of farming, grinding, questing, what i expect from xbox players...
he hates doing all the work to cook and craft, he basically said he wants everything to come to him easy and he doesn't have to do anything to get items. its supposed to make you feel accomplished, he wants to be a god at the start of the game, and he said skyrim is grim like fallout and its not beautiful, IN FALLOUT A NUKE HIT THE FUCKING TOWN AND IN SKYRIM THERE ARE FUCKING DRAGONS KILLING EVERYONE THAT YOU HAVE TO KILL, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM A GAME IN A CITY DESTROYED BY A BOMB OR DRAGON.

The reason for the "Gloomy"-ness is because The dragon Alduin has returned and he wants to enslave the human race and have dragons rule the land.. I dont think that things are going to be happy and joyful; especially for the end of the world.. O_o;
Skyrim does suck, it is classified as an RPG, but it is not an RPG at all. With this system when I choose a race I can forget after 2 hours of playing what race I am, what name I have or even if I am male or female, if I am a mage or a warrior. No stats, no real planning, everything is automatic except those 10 points to put in hp, mana, stamina. And BORING. At this time I will return to play c64 games, some of them are much better.

@mullymyster Completely agree with you, It is just a matter of tastes. What I am complaining is the fact that it has not the "feeling" of TES anymore, it's just like I am playing another game. But I do know that styles of gaming change with time so I think they do a great work. What I am sure is that it won't be remembered like Daggerfall or Morrowind as it misses the deep of such games and it doesn't have the same charisma. Less game and more movie style that is. But maybe I am wrong.
@mullymyster And of course it is not that I don't like anything... For example I LOVE the athmosphere. Mountains and colors are so realistic and beautiful. To tell you the truth I have never seen so much beauty and reality about landscapes in games. Skyrim in this is a masterpiece. For example I have read lots of complaints about those things too. As you can see Skyrim is that type of game that or you love it or you'll hate it. I love winter and mountains so the setting is PERFECT for me ;)...

Insead, you start off with a little boost of some things depending on your race, and the more you use something the better you get at it. If you don't like the way you are heading, you can change. Before it was very hard to change and when you did you were very bad at what you changed to. In short, Skyrim has the most flexable skill system yet.

Not to have stats and favorite skills put every character at the same level, it means that it doesn't matter what race you choose, you're not specialized, so there is not a background at all. Why is it a negative thing that there wasn't a build up to the one and only dragon fight? Why does it have to be a cliche? Bethesda makes amazing games!! That's why every game they've made lately wins or gets nominated GOTY. Also, Skyrim is bright, colorful and beautiful, when the amazing dynamic weather system isn't representing overcast.

We must be fair... the video game marketing is a battle. They have release dates they must meet for their stakeholders and for the competition. Its a big game so it will come with lots of bugs. Its great though how we now live in a world where once you buy a game it can be patched afterwards. They are working on a lot of bug fixes. I give them credit to creating a fun game and i enjoy playing. I dont focus on the flaws because it hasn't stopped the fun in it for me.
I think Bethesda feels like they're able to leave a lot of the game "unpolished" like the bleakness, there's mods that make everything pretty, there's mods that let you fight on horseback ect.
I think what this guy was doing was attempting to simply address issues that other reviewers aren't looking at or WONT look at because the game is so good. I don't mind that someone ripped it apart, no one else addressed any issues other than that there are bugs.

10 Minutes to find your first dragon eh? It took me like an hour to make my character and give him a story, make him the way I WANT. Then I was set out to roleplay, cook my own meals and find a job to earn money. After I had bought my first REAL weapon, the joy overcame me and I went into the forest to do some hunting with a local huntsman, it was late and I decided to have my last meal and go to sleep... 3 real days later, I still haven't encountered my first dragon. SKYRIM IS JUST TO GOOD!
@TheBuzzlin Its beyond RDR man, you can hunt deer, kill them with your bow, take the meat and cook it and then collect other ingredients to make soups or stews. You can also use forges to create your own weapons and armor, get married, buy a house, etc.....its amazing dude.....BUT......If you own a ps3 and want to play it on ps3 i do have to warn you of the lag that tends to happen after more than 3 to 4 hours of gameplay.
no videogame is perfect nothing is perfect so skyrim ,if skyrim was perfect there wouldnt be so many mods like the first day of its release there was an HD texture pack cause the vanilla edition sucked !
@Kraivorous No one knows who he is dragonborn (even with the shouts and the dragon armor) lololol. The whole real time thing. Is because the dragonborn is looking at a map. And the map is actually a 3d map if you can zoom in on it.
I think the main reason I don't like Skyrim is just the creativity they took out of it. The story was bad, short, and uneventful. Bethesda put (I think) to many aspects of Fallout in their game. I like fallout and I like TES but I don't want a short story in TES games. I think it was to rough and could have been better if they waited a year or more to sit down and think about what they were doing. I now play Oblivion (again) and find it more fun than Skyrim. I hope the DLC saves the game.
To the vid poster: Ignore the nerd raging fan boys. On topic: I had more hours in Morrowind and Oblivion than Skyrim hence why it isn't on my computer anymore. They took out a lot of good elements that made Morrowind and Oblivion enjoyable not to say that the new stuff like dual wielding isn't good but the stuff they decided not to include killed the experience for me.

...cooking is not manditory its just another thing the put in the game that makes it feel closer to a real world but i dont think magic should do ur chores that where the vid went wrong. U keep talking about little details in the game that should b like this and shouldn't b like that. Creating a game focused on such little details would take way to long no1 is going to spend such along time to make magic do a little part of the game. Then u go into another little thing like riding horses.

I think the problem is that people have expected a CoD-like game from skyrim, where it is the complete other end of the spectrum. CoD is the cheap hooker of the gaming world, sticks to the basics and gets it done fast. Skyrim is more like a mysterious high class swedish escort. she has many varying styles and ways to play, but you can choose your own fun. Not everyone wants to have a golden shower, but its nice to know the option is there

There are some which i feelSkyrim has not performed as well as oblivion did: the guilds in Oblivion were bigger, more sophisticated and the quests (particularly dark brotherhood and thieves guild) were more elaborate and challenging, I wish they still had subtitles you could skip over when people talk (this allowed you to get through conversations quickly), the mountains can be pretty hard to get around too. one thing that drove me nuts was the very long opening at the start, i mean its a cool opening the first time around, but for people that like to have multiple character files such as myself, its very boring to have to sit there for about 10 minuets and listen to the same long opening. i mean it seems to take forever to finish making your character to start with. i think it takes me around 45 minuets just to start with a new character, should be able to skip the opening part.
@Kraivorous The map serves a huge purpose for quick traveling and maybe it's just a paper map? Doing missions for the guilds. Isn't that what you would do normally in a gang or something? Do jobs to work your way up, even though the missions are different in each guild. How is everyone suppose to know your the Dragonborn. There are no phones or tv's. Realistically half the people wouldn't know what the Dragonborn looks like. Tell me a game you like so I can find meaningless errors.
lol complaining about loading screens is funny, play on a decent pc and you wont have that problem, my computer is 4 years old and my loading screens never go over 5-10 seconds... and you just told people to step back from a game they enjoy alot and point out its flaws because it might bother other people... if you bought the game and hate it and 99% of the world says its amazing your not gunna say omg this game rocks i love it
this guy hasnt played skyrim at all, if you do an hours worth of main story quest, you learn why the dragons are coming back, ive played 70 hours most of which was side quests or exploring, and i know that big mean black dragon whose name escapes me atm is resurecting the other dragons so he can continue his reign as king douche... slight paraphrase of quest dialogue but close enough
skyrim isnt pretty? play on a computer and see whiterun from the top of distant mountains, or go into some of the lush green valleys... if you think its work to level up alchemy or smithing or enchanting then dont do it, its your choice, sure you wont have the best gear in the game, but you still have pretty nice gear that isnt inherently op like full perfect dwarven armor at lvl 20 and nothing hurts you (example of what i had)

None of your points are really all that valid. Salt piles are in no way "rare," and having a dragon at the beginning really put emphasis on how dangerous they are to Skyrim. Nothing like seeing Helgen get razed to teach you that. If there were only one dragon, it wouldn't be much of a widespread crisis, would it? It doesn't even sound like you've played the game... -_-

Elder Scrolls titles are far from RPGs that comfort you in a sudden. Tho Skyrim is much beginners friendly compared to other ES titles. Bethsoft really mastered this. Obviously most critics about this game come from very young gamers, and I think that is ok. reading the lore is one essential part of any ES. the books are well to read in Sykrim, and fun. What the youngsters not know, is how much furbished the title is underneath. I would argue the rated mature makes sense in this case.

@marshyelloh I took me me 3 years as Ultima, Bard Tale, FF, etc experienced RPG player to take note on how complex the ES is beneath its surface. Luckily Skyrim catched up in terms of graphics, which were most backward in development. Now, the CK offers RPG devs to even master on RPG elements. But what does that say to you, if your preliminaries are different? True RPG addicts will find ES for what it is. It may sound stupid, but ES reuqires some dedication. It is a complex beast!

Skyrim does suck, it is classified as an RPG, but it is not an RPG at all. With this system when I choose a race I can forget after 2 hours of playing what race I am, what name I have or even if I am male or female, if I am a mage or a warrior. No stats, no real planning, everything is automatic except those 10 points to put in hp, mana, stamina. And BORING. At this time I will return to play c64 games, some of them are much better.

But I do know that styles of gaming change with time so I think they do a great work. What I am sure is that it won't be remembered like Daggerfall or Morrowind as it misses the deep of such games and it doesn't have the same charisma. Less game and more movie style that is. To tell you the truth I have never seen so much beauty and reality about landscapes in games. Skyrim in this is a masterpiece. For example I have read lots of complaints about those things too. Insead, you start off with a little boost of some things depending on your race, and the more you use something the better you get at it. If you don't like the way you are heading, you can change. Before it was very hard to change and when you did you were very bad at what you changed to. In short, Skyrim has the most flexable skill system yet.

Not to have stats and favorite skills put every character at the same level, it means that it doesn't matter what race you choose, you're not specialized, so there is not a background at all. It's like I studied 15 years magic and suddenly I become the most powerful warrior in the world, this doesn't make sense. Not being an RPG it doesn't mean that is crap in all. I was disappointed that it is much more console type.

We must be fair... the video game marketing is a battle. They have release dates they must meet for their stakeholders and for the competition. Its a big game so it will come with lots of bugs. Its great though how we now live in a world where once you buy a game it can be patched afterwards. They are working on a lot of bug fixes. I give them credit to creating a fun game and i enjoy playing. I dont focus on the flaws because it hasn't stopped the fun in it for me.

I think Bethesda feels like they're able to leave a lot of the game "unpolished" like the bleakness, there's mods that make everything pretty, there's mods that let you fight on horseback ect.
I think what this guy was doing was attempting to simply address issues that other reviewers aren't looking at or WONT look at because the game is so good. I don't mind that someone ripped it apart, no one else addressed any issues other than that there are bugs.
Its a damn good game and deserves its 9.5.

10 Minutes to find your first dragon eh? It took me like an hour to make my character and give him a story, make him the way I WANT. Then I was set out to roleplay, cook my own meals and find a job to earn money. After I had bought my first REAL weapon, the joy overcame me and I went into the forest to do some hunting with a local huntsman, it was late and I decided to have my last meal and go to sleep... 3 real days later, I still haven't encountered my first dragon. SKYRIM IS JUST TO GOOD!

@TheBuzzlin Its beyond RDR man, you can hunt deer, kill them with your bow, take the meat and cook it and then collect other ingredients to make soups or stews. You can also use forges to create your own weapons and armor, get married, buy a house, etc.....its amazing dude.....BUT......If you own a ps3 and want to play it on ps3 i do have to warn you of the lag that tends to happen after more than 3 to 4 hours of gameplay.

I think the main reason I don't like Skyrim is just the creativity they took out of it. The story was bad, short, and uneventful. Bethesda put (I think) to many aspects of Fallout in their game. I like fallout and I like TES but I don't want a short story in TES games. I think it was to rough and could have been better if they waited a year or more to sit down and think about what they were doing. I now play Oblivion (again) and find it more fun than Skyrim. I hope the DLC saves the game.

I think the problem is that people have expected a CoD-like game from skyrim, where it is the complete other end of the spectrum. CoD is the cheap hooker of the gaming world, sticks to the basics and gets it done fast. Skyrim is more like a mysterious high class swedish escort. she has many varying styles and ways to play, but you can choose your own fun. There are some which i feelSkyrim has not performed as well as oblivion did: the guilds in Oblivion were bigger, more sophisticated and the quests (particularly dark brotherhood and thieves guild) were more elaborate and challenging, I wish they still had subtitles you could skip over when people talk (this allowed you to get through conversations quickly), the mountains can be pretty hard to get around too. Yeah, Skyrim sucks... I thought it will be fun but it's so boring... The PLACE is very confusing so I use the MAP ...but still I got no idea WHERE THE HELL I'M GOING..The map bar is just a rectangular (how can I know if that icon or place is in north or south...... I think FABLE 3 or the Lost Chapters is much better than skyrim...!!PEACE!!

There are people who will not buy a game unless a majority of reviews are good. There are people who don't trust commercial reviews, and they want a consumer's thoughts. one thing that drove me nuts was the very long opening at the start, i mean its a cool opening the first time around, but for people that like to have multiple character files such as myself, its very boring to have to sit there for about 10 minuets and listen to the same long opening. i mean it seems to take forever to finish making your character to start with. i think it takes me around 45 minuets just to start with a new character, should be able to skip the opening part.

@Kraivorous The map serves a huge purpose for quick traveling and maybe it's just a paper map? Doing missions for the guilds. Isn't that what you would do normally in a gang or something? Do jobs to work your way up, even though the missions are different in each guild. How is everyone suppose to know your the Dragonborn. There are no phones or tv's. Realistically half the people wouldn't know what the Dragonborn looks like. Tell me a game you like so I can find meaningless errors.

lol complaining about loading screens is funny, play on a decent pc and you wont have that problem, my computer is 4 years old and my loading screens never go over 5-10 seconds... and you just told people to step back from a game they enjoy alot and point out its flaws because it might bother other people... if you bought the game and hate it and 99% of the world says its amazing your not gunna say omg this game rocks i love it

this guy hasnt played skyrim at all, if you do an hours worth of main story quest, you learn why the dragons are coming back, ive played 70 hours most of which was side quests or exploring, and i know that big mean black dragon whose name escapes me atm is resurecting the other dragons so he can continue his reign as king douche... slight paraphrase of quest dialogue but close enough

skyrim isnt pretty? play on a computer and see whiterun from the top of distant mountains, or go into some of the lush green valleys... if you think its work to level up alchemy or smithing or enchanting then dont do it, its your choice, sure you wont have the best gear in the game, but you still have pretty nice gear that isnt inherently op like full perfect dwarven armor at lvl 20 and nothing hurts you (example of what i had)

complaining about books in skyrim... they would be at the the middle ages tech wise compared to the real world... they put books in to deepen the world and make it seem more real, and an audio file would be retarded for every single book, its not that hard to read, this is why people hate americans... to lazy to read... starting in an epic dragon town raping is way better than how oblivion started why the hell would u want beauty at the begining when ur saved by a giant pissed off dragon?

None of your points are really all that valid. Salt piles are in no way "rare," and having a dragon at the beginning really put emphasis on how dangerous they are to Skyrim. Nothing like seeing Helgen get razed to teach you that. If there were only one dragon, it wouldn't be much of a widespread crisis, would it? It doesn't even sound like you've played the game... -_-
