Heavens to Charles Trenet! What an utterly exquisite version of one of my all time favorite songs! In fact, I had taped this song from a friends's album years ago but failed to write down the name of the artist. Only now am I finding out it's the lovely & talented British singer Helen Shapiro! What a magnifiecent voice! It's a shame she never became better known here in the US. THANK YOU so much for posting this....you've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS!! :)
I am an american and just now learning of the woman...She is awesome....why she never came to the states is beyond me, i'm sure she would have been a star here as well
Fair comment but I always think if you've never heard a song before even if it is a cover, you always favour the first version you ever heard? DOes anyone else agree?
A very perceptive comment. Growing up in the 1970's as I did, I assumed that all of Showaddywaddy's and Mud's output was new material and always preferred their versions. Also, as a young child I used to listen to "sing Something Simple" and came across many well known songs via the Cliff Adams Singers
3 people are tone deaf, and wouldn't recognize class if it hit them in the face :)

When very young Helen sang in a Pub called The Needle Gun in Roman Road and I must say that she was great. A great looker too.

Superb voice, as ever. An extremely talented singer - plus, of course, a wonderful song

Helen as the knack of singing any song well, would love to hear her singing some of the oldies, as they don't seem to write songs like they used to.

The musical arrangements in Bobby Darin's recording of this song are much better, but Helen's vocals are outstanding.
VealParmigiana 2 years ago
Agreed - Shapiro's vocals with Darin's band would have been awesome!
