  • I dont know a thing about violins... butthis is reallly really good! quality and technique...

  • best interpretation ever!!!! :D

  • Stern really suits this piece, I think of stern having literally a "stern" sound, it sounds fantastic.

  • when I watch Stern play, I think, "This doesn't even look tough. Even I could do that." But then when I go try, I think, "Damn... Stern, you're too amazing." The way he plays so effortlessly but so emotionally is something you don't see in too many violinists.

  • awesome

  • amazing bow control

  • excellent bowing technique (bow allways close to bridge!) and amazing left fingers (4th finger looks like naturally bent in)...what else can you ask...i listened to it allready 200 times at least and can't be bored (i do get bored when i try to play it myself the same way as him...)

somebody knows what violin he is playing on?ysaye guarneri?guadagnini?

  • Words cannot express this incredible piece. Astounding!! 10 stars

  • i found this piece on an assignment task in high school lol

  • Sin lugar a dudas,la más perfecta interpretación !!!.Fuerza,limpieza,sensibilidad,

Justeza.Hace más de cuarenta años q lo escucho.Nadie lo ha superado!!.M

  • with fingers like that i bet you his wife was one happy lady O_o

  • Look at his fingers! This is amazing! He's shredding. This is legit shredding.

  • @2054890 what is shredding?

  • @Elisheval lol it just means that he can play really, really fast. Shredding is a slang word used for rock guitarists (at least the guitarist friends I have use it).

  • oh i really love listening to this piece, even since i heard it in summer 1979... just found it, thanks to youtube!

  • I performed this piece for my HS commencement concert back in '80 and It was NOT an easy feat, but none the less I did and got an 18 min standing ovation, not bad for a 17 year old from Brooklyn !

but I have never played it again ! ! ! tooo stressfull ;)

  • 7:42!! Now that is HOW to play chords!!!!

  • Excelso !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This performance made me happy.

His smile makes me happy. This song makes me happy. Saint-Saens makes me happy. Stern playing Saint-Saens makes me happy.

  • I think maybe in 250 of practice years I'll be able to sound half as good.

  • 7:28 HOW DOES HE DO IT.

  • @mandypants11 Heifetz does it even better.

  • @dolnick Probably, but I don't really like listening to his recording.

  • @dolnick So does Itzhak Perlman. I don't care for this performance. I can't fault Stern's technical mastery, but it just seems overbearing to me.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a genius. Stern was such a hero of the violin. Incomparable.

  • 1:31 is orgasm.. i could easily play this, pshh! Lol jk

  • 1:31 is orgasm..

  • I think I am in heaven, listening to this Masterpiece, Thank you ******

  • This, I think, is Sterns "masterpiece"!

He was an extraordinaire violin player! But in this piece of music he did a wonderful version!

  • i love the beginning :) very lyrical

  • Quality isn't good enough to see on this, but if you have the actual DVD you can see he played with so much passion, power and intensity that there was sweat dripping all over his violin after.

Stern never gave a performance less than 100%.

  • in my opinion this is the most accurate version of this piece - good taste

  • im curious is saint-saens still doing music

  • @safnhuo The brilliant man has been dead since 1921. Your sarcasm is not appreciated.

  • @petitemasochist i wasnt being sarcastic you idiot

  • @petitemasochist are you fucking stupid or something this is color video how the fuck would he be recorded in color when there were no color videos yet... isaac stern July 21, 1920, Kremenets – September 22, 2001, New York City

  • @jub2k1 He was talking about Sait Saens. He's been dead since 1921, which is whom the original comment was referring to.

  • @petitemasochist he meant doing music in the afterlife/heaven

  • @seanleephoto Hahaha

  • Heard this piece hundreds of times, but this interpretation gives me goose bumps. It is the sound, and good taste - no excessive gooey emotions and cabaret-like exaggerations.

The SOUND, its depth is incredible. It is simply breathtaking! My favorite.

  • ナタン・ミルシュターン

  • im figure skating to this peice! :)

  • We are as enamored of the person of a great violinist as we are of their music. Great musicians exude a confidence and comfort level that mere mortals can only dream about employing. Stern is beautiful to watch.

  • I have a violin, but I don't have time nor money to learn how to play it.

  • As much as i love Heifetz this version being played here is every bit as good and the only difference i can spot is Heifetz is a bit more lively

  • Thank you so much :))))

  • This gives me so much joy i can't even put it in words!

  • Like is an understatement...Isaac stern is fantastic.

  • Es humano???

  • He missed a note 7.58

  • @gibsonpaddy show him how it should be done sure...

  • @decky1990 There should be NO mistakes made at this level

  • @gibsonpaddy what are you talking about? that was part of 3 measures of rests.

  • Simply brilliant.

  • beautiful piece

  • i has got this on dvd when it first came out. a gem

  • this man was created for playing this song like NO other

  • i like Stern, but now that i have widened my view of ppl who play this piece, im beginning to really like Heifetz more....

  • My goal in life is to be able to play this one day. This or Caprice 24. I love it so much.

  • this piece isn't actually that hard

  • Can someone explain meaning of the title? Introduction? What is Cappriccioso? I love this song, and listened to my DVD more than hundred times, but I'd like to understand the song a bit better than just listen.

  • Capriccioso- lively and free. An instrumental work with an improvisatory style and a free form. Excellent commentary at Wikipedia.

Camille Saint-Saëns (9 October 1835 16 December 1921) like many other French Romantic composers such as Edouard Lalo and George Bizet, held a deep interest in the style of Spanish dance music. This style permeates his solo violin works, particularly the Havanaise Op. 83 and the Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso. Written for Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate

  • @himalayado Introduction is self explanatory with the slow beginning. Capriccioso = Capricious, which means "fanciful or witty" and if you take a look at Paganini's Caprices, it generally means difficult.

  • This is Sterns "shining moment"!!

He plays second to none here!!

    Fantastic play!

  • awesome

  • briliant staccato, also unusual fingering to "fatten" the sound.

  • again i am thrown back in my seat by the amazingness of this rendition

  • Is that a Strad fiddle..???

  • i think that heifetz played this better technically but personally i like this interpretation better. I just don't like heifetzs non use of rubato. i dont know which one i prefer

  • I love the piece!!!!!!!! Isac Stern is such an amazing violinist, so is Heifetz. But I do not think Stern is better than Heifetz, or vise versa. There both fine violinist.

  • Heifetz is twice better

  • @gibsonpaddy agreed

  • amazing

  • The best interpretation I've ever seen for this piece. Better than heifetz.

  • no way fuk u

  • Welt Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing 0,0

  • I love this piece! soooo much!!!!!

  • definitive version of this piece

  • Amazing playing

  • Masterpiece! Love it.

  • I have been listening th Stern's interpretation since I was a child. I don't know that I could seperate the music from the musician at this point. Even if I heard a "better" interpretation of it, I would probably not like it as well. To me, this is 'Stern.'

  • h h ha ha hau hau haunting

  • This is my absolute favorite piece ever written for violin. I've been playing violin for 3 years and I'll be performing this in... roughly 4 years. :)

  • i agree (IMO) the BEST violin piece ever andthis version by stern is superb

  • You very ambitious :p

  • Niente male ma come sono tirati i crini...

    ;-)

  • Issac Stern learned to play the violin from Naoum Blinder. My teacher also learned to play the violin from Naoum Blinder. That doesn't mean more than just amusement. In fact, I still can't play this piece in front of people. Long way to go, but having immense pleasure playing every day. I'll be 74 next month.

  • @wingklow I just read your review about this piece and I just want to say that it is just great listening to it. Did you ever hear David Oistrach playing it or any other piece for that matter. I think Oistrach was one of the best . Anyway at 74 you are still doing very well , so keep it up God bless you.

  • @pascal1530 Yes, I've heard David Oistrach play this piece. He and Issac Stern both have the intensity and technical skill to bring out its best. I attended their concerts when I was young. They, as well as many other violinists, give me inspiration to keep practicing. I leave on my music stand Paganini's 24 Caprices permanently. Thank you for your encouragement.

  • @wingklow : I'm not sure that it could be said any better: "...Long way to go, but having immense pleasure playing every day."

If this isn't the ESSENCE music, then I don't know what is.

  • @gakathon Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  • @wingklow Good to see your comment.I studied with Boris Schwarz.......fifty-five (55) years ago. Best and respects

  • @outoftunefiddler Thanks. You were very lucky to have studied with Boris Schwarz, the famous author. I couldn't find any video of him playing the violin on YouTube, probably because great teachers usually don't make great performers, and vice versa.

The enjoyment of music grows, not diminishes, with age. Don't you agree? I just finished playing "old man" Haydn's Divertimenti 1 thru 9 and came to realize I appreciate them much, much more than I did when I was young.

  • @wingklow I can sympathize with your hesitation to perform in public.

I performed Schubert last week, and I think it was pretty terrible. But I was met with quite a bit of applause and many kind words post-performance. It was quite a frightening experience for me, but I'm glad I did it.

Sometimes it's best to perform badly in public than to never perform at all.

  • @TheAtma You must be quite good, judging by the reaction of the audience. Please continue to share the joy of music. I did play with an orchestra.

  • @wingklow - feel no less, not all are Isaac Sterns or Itzak Perlmans...In fact, "not all Israel IS of Israel", said by Paul.

  • @wingklow Je vous admire !

  • 7:10-30 is very philip glass-ish

  • Yes, but better. :]

  • Sure, Janine's good. But some people thnk she's even better just by being young and good looking. Good for her and no fault in that.

Oh, and showing a lot of skin and putting on a dance help too. Yet, to many others, those are turnoffs.

  • Amen. Hate flashy dresses. Not that they are not attractive, but it's focusing on the wrong thing.

  • Janine Jansen's grossly excessive body movements distract the audience from the beauty of any piece of music. She's good, but in my opinion, just not in the same league as the great Stern.

  • I've tried several times to download this video via arcsoft, but it will not work. Oh, well, I have the CD.

  • wonderful.

  • harika

  • Saint-Saens never fails to crack me up. Especially 2:17-2:35

  • And 5:10. Even Isaac smiles. not for naught is this a capriccioso.

  • The initial melody is one of the most beautiful I know.

  • Isaac Stern performing with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Philharmonic in this rendition of the Intro and Rondo. This excellent recording is available at Amazon. Only Heifitz and Perhlman could do it as much justice. I prefer the Stern version.

  • I"ll take Aaron Rosand....

  • amazing playing by Stern

  • simply beautiful

  • Stern is a genius! i would love to meet this man

  • Yeah buddy you're a few years to late for that

  • That violin has a dark aura. hahah, just kidding.

    Amazing performance.

  • agh! im playing this piece!! hmmm.... imma goin to crash and burn if this is what they expect of meh! -_-

  • This is the best interpretation of this piece I have ever heard. His bow proportion control is insane. And everything looks so natural. Beautiful.

  • 7:16. Praise that man and his mechanical little fingers.

  • Mieux ? Moins bien ? Je ne sais pas. Mais c'est 100 pour cent émotion.

  • HOLY SHIT THE ORCHESTRA IS PLAYING IN THE DARK!!! they all had to memorize theyre parts too?

  • they have lights on the stands, you can see them

  • awesome!

  • Me likey this interpretation :-)

  • I think this piece was always going to be up for a lot of interpretation, but I did enjoy this rendition a lot.

  • He's an excellent player, but I didn't interpret the piece quite the way he did.

  • Jason101 you are a blasphemous fucking dumbass- rethink ur life

  • As for the message you're trying to get across, great job. As for the words you used to express it...I mean really, re-think your own life! No need to lower your class to get the point over. But on the same note, you're right, Jason101 needs to rethink his life.

  • I luv 7:59 its my faveouruite bit

  • Heifetz-Stern rules!

  • plus Perlman! =P

  • Lacks artistry and expression? You must be mistaking Perlman for another violinist.

  • Pearlman is OK but overrated. Bell...a joke in this company!

He should be part of a circus act!

  • Compare Vengerov & Co.......

  • Perlman is overrated!? Blasphemy!

  • hehe hense the name! lol jkjk

  • A very good interpretation of the piece. One of my favorite renditions!

  • This is a very good rendition. If anyone tells you it was not written for Sarasate their crazy. This piece, VC2, VC3, & Havanaise, Saint-Saens wrote for Pablo; and lets face it, the Spanish Flag is all over it. Sarasate's contrasting style of high and low violin registers along with a dance melody make this piece great.

  • I absolutley love stern. I saw Heifetz video, he is one of my idles, but it sounded like he made 2 or 3 mistakes. My teacher, Mr.Vitenson, played this at FIU in Florida and it was AWSOME! Of course very close to this, though.

  • Hmm... idk. That's of course just my opinion, and I'm not saying I don't like Stern. I'd just rather listen to Perlman.

  • Perlman was Sterns student. Yes Perlman is good (this is m opinion, you dont have to agree) but i prefer sterns interpretations. He has just the right mix of expression and technique, doesnt overdo 1 or the other

  • Perlman is my all-time favourite, but I listened this piece from both of them, and Stern is like magic here... His interpretation is perfect!

  • Yes, very nice job.

  • introduction and rondo capricosso sheets music! please!

    thank you!

  • they just dont make violinists like stern or heifetz anymore...

  • Pearlman and Bell are amazing, though....

  • yeah but... Heifetz and Stern... a whole new league, Perlman and Bell are good, very good but personally i prefer heifetz and stern, then again thats just an opinion

  • I don't know, I think that they are all tied for me but if I choose to listen to one of these guys it's usually Perlman. Stern, Bell, and Heifetz are still my favorites as well. I just... idk. I prefer to listen to Perlman.

  • exécution magistrale. bravo.

  • does anyone know where i can find a recording of stern playing the prokofiev concerto? im learning it now and i am trying to find a recording and stern is awesome (im 14 and thus too cheap to buy it :D)

  • I'm hopfully going to play this piece. I'm 11, played in Carnegie Hall with orchestra, and on my way!!! I LOVE this piece!!! It's my ringtone!!!

  • l`m 13years old,and l play this piece!!!

    its very,very hard!!!

  • I recently played this song for a judge, i'm 16 and i had 6ish months to prepare it. obiviously it wasn't going to be perfect but it sounded close to this with slower tempo's.. i went to the judging and the judge told me i shouldn't be playing this song and thats its way out of my league. ive performed this song infront of many people who have heard this song and had the music and many who were music majors they all said it was great. Should i be limited to only play stuff thats at my age level?

  • Age does not denote skill, i know a 12 year old with her Fmus, brilliant violinist, age has nothing to do with how well you can play

  • That's silly. Who has a right to decide what "your league" should be? Play what you want.

  • i absolutely agree with you whats the point of playing violin if you are forced to play pieces OTHER PEOPLE think you should play? If you love a piece, truly love it then it will show in your playing, don't play notes, play music!

  • i tink i can trust this coming from the violin spaz xD lol

  • STERN vs HEIFETZ

  • although i really like heifetz' version, i listened to this at someones recommendation and have to say - oh my gosh......... :-O

  • What is with everyone giving thumbs down for OPINIONS we are allowed to have opinions, i have learnt this piece and heard both stern and heifetz, they are both good, very good.

  • ohhhhhh myyyyyyy goddddd

  • I really enjoyed this...one of my favorite versions. Thank you for posting.

  • lol look at 7:42 or 43 some1 raised their bow at the wrong time behind sterns back!!!!!!!

  • LOL nice observation haha
