as someone else had already mentioned here on youtube: this is the voice of a generation. this particular song holds up against the best pearl jam ever recorded.
Chris I think would have made it, if he had really planned and thought ahead. He made some serious mistakes that cost him his life. First he should have brought enough food for however he was planning on staying. MRE's dont take up alot of space and all you need is water. I dont understand why he did not use the fishing pole that the old man gave him. He had a whole river full of Salmon and trout..

this movie added a huge amount of inspiration to a hitchiking trip across canada, not that i didnt want to do it before seeing this but it captures perfectly the joys of life on the road, and it IS amazing(both life on the road and the movie)
You can have true happiness by yourself. No one to get in your way, to let you down, to harm you, to juge you, to critisize you, to fight you. If you live alone it would strengthen your body, mind and soul, just by surviving by yourself...pretty simple
i agree with the simple life and getting back to the land and the wild where we belong but i don't agree that humans can find complete happiness in seclusion, we have become extremely social animals to the point where we need to feel the presence of other people. i know i wouldn't want to be completely alone even if i was living my life dream of escaping the system we've created.
The people that loved him, the people that brought the best out of him. Ironic how me says he's not sure if he'd wanna depend on much more than leaves and berries. The latter being the instrument of his demise.
I watched this movie for the first time last week. I talked to many people about it since then and people seem to be taking this movie a bit too literally. It's about a man who has a hard time forgiving. People tend to believe that they have it worse than anyone. He meets people than tell him stories of foregiveness and loss. He molds beatiful relationships with these people. But the overwhelming negation that dwells within him blinds him from realizing what mattered most ...
You have to remember he didnt plan on staying out there for that long. he couldnt get back across the river. what he broguth with him was enough for the time that was planned
What a great way to put it! Yeah he had a hard time forgiving but people with abusive parents have a hard time learning to love let alone forgiving (a whole different dimension to loving).
@Cannonsbaseball7 he didn't knew that there was a bridge couple of miles up the river. so he got back to the magic bus, and lived there for over 100 days.
lol... -4? Dude was naiive as fuck. Should have brought a bigger rifle.. should have brought more food, better supplies.. He didn't have that much respect for mother nature, that is why he died. RIP Chris, but you should have been smarter than that

its a shame that wherever there is a artistic expression, there is a negative comment. this convo should not be about pearljam but should be about the level of consciousness that others have achieved through another form of art, i.e. into the wild... if anyone hasn't watched it, it is a release from the restraints of the natural world. Evryone would do good by watchimg it. very inspirational. hesitate... and try to agree, rather than immediately disagree. it will be the downfall of us all... : )
I've yet to see the movie (although i do want to) But ive listened to the soundtrack, and i was kind of disappointed, it felt like country/pop to me. I guess i was expecting something like the latest PJ album, or something like any of the PJ albums really, but it wasnt at all.
Why would you want to hear Eddie do something like a PJ album? If anything Pearl Jam needs to break up already. They play the same tired power chord driven rock music they played back in 1991 when Ten came out. Creatively they are done and Eddie would really benefit from getting away from all that and go solo. The best PJ music has always been the acoustic music and that's pretty much all Eddie.
smoke117, you obviously aren't listening to them are ya? Pearl Jam is still one of the most creative bands out there. Every one of their albums has a unique sound/style to it.
...not really. They haven't had a unique or creative sound since No Code. Mike Mccready as a lead guitarist is basically heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page/Jimi Hendrix and doesn't have a creative bone in his body. Stone actually does but saves it for his solo endeavors. Matt Cameron and Jeff Ament are a great rhythm section, but haven't been given shit to work with since the 90s. Jack Irons was the best and most interesting drummer they had and is why No Code is the best lp.
no dude! PJ have constantly been coming up with new kick-ass songs. You need to listen to Grievance, Do the Evolution, Bushleaguer, Life Wasted, Faithfull, and Insignificance!!!
smoke117 shut the fuck up! You don't know what you're talking about. That's the stupidest crap I've heard in a long time. PJ is still one of the bands that writes songs that are always different from each other. It is not Power chord driven, if you knew anything about music, you'd know that,
You stfu regularattendee...Pearl Jam hasn't done anything original or unique since No Code in 95 and that's just a fucking fact. This "Into the Wild" soundtrack Eddie did is what he should be doing. He could be putting out great folk/lyric driven music like this like his hero Neil Young (my favorite musician) if he would just move on from Pearl Jam already. I'm sorry but Pearl Jam is not original at all, they basically copy their heros ideas...Led Zeppelin, The Who, Neil Young/Crazy Horse.
Pearl Jam didn't break up, I saw a concert just last week. Just because somebody does a solo album doesn't mean the band broke up. Thom Yorke from Radiohead did a great one.
This sound track has some great songs, and the movie was great by itself.
That song from back in the days "black" i know some day youll have a beautiful life i know some day youll be a star still gives me goose bumps. that part is like the climax of the song
It seems i'm not up to date... What CD is this? Just Ed? How old? I need that!!! PJ and/or Eddie are the greatest Band/musicians ever walked on this planet. Many genius' have been, many left, many will come but there is somekind of magic sourrounding this music, somekind of, how to say... Balance of truth in word and melody, anger and hope, hard to explain, those who know will understand...
In the early days, Eddie expressed that he did not believed in God, but most recently in shows and after the birth of his child, he has made several comments about god. Even "Severe hand" on the last CD is about god
Racso, watch the video of Pearl Jam performing Severed Hand at the Ed Sullivan Theatre. At around 2:00 he says, "This song...this is about psychotropics."
They didn`t kill the moose in the movie they took a moose that was killed by an accident and was given to them from park rangers! I read this a few days ago!
This soundtrack is great. I like Eddie Vedder solo. These are some great tunes. As for debating the movie...that would seem more appropriate at another websight, perhaps one involving the movie, not just a song from the movie. Just a thought.
So the real life Alex Supertramp wrote that he wished he never shot the moose. It was his life's worst tragedy. So Sean Penn then kills a real moose to dramatize the guy's "worst tragedy." Sean is an arrogant self-centered asshole for doing that. I bet he'd have Emile Hirsch really starve to death if it got Sean attention. This movie is HORRIBLE. Do not watch it people! Trust me!!!
Clearly you miss the point and purpose of film; that is to recreate or express feelings and emotions. This was a central part of Chris' struggles in the book. Leaving this out of the film would have been irresponsible. How else would you suggesst capturing this important part of the journey?
i agree that he missed the whole point of the film. it is called artistic expression, and it was nescesary to potray this to get the whole story. he only watch the normal mindless hollywood crap that requires no thinking or insight. great song, great movie.
the moose scene was made with road kill and not even a moose but rather a caribou. Planet saver like you would be likely to complain without even knowing what you are talking about.
I have come to find that there are alot of dumb people out there...Sean Penn is the shit! This movie is Amazing...That's my opinion. It may not be yours but that's mine.
Nature drunk, the best kind of intoxication.

so really they killed a real moose in the movie? that's a bit odd. Why would they do that. I hope the animal was first drugged or something.

Nope it was a sober moose

Take it easy PETA they didn't shoot a moose. The moose was roadkill. It was frozen until needed for that scene

This is a great collection of tunes. Nice job by Vedder.

How else would you suggesst capturing this important part of the journey?

i agree that he missed the whole point of the film. it is called artistic expression, and it was nescesary to potray this to get the whole story. he only watch the normal mindless hollywood crap that requires no thinking or insight. great song, great movie.

what are you kidding me it was the best movie I have ever seen fuck off!!!!

the moose scene was made with road kill and not even a moose but rather a caribou. Planet saver like you would be likely to complain without even knowing what you are talking about.
