  • shut the fuck up old fag!

  • anyone who makes that will prolly gett assasinated l0ol

  • damn America.... we fucked up

  • Hmm. Pay for results rather than just pay out money to punk kids in universities doing dolt work for a professor.Grants versus results. Makes some sense.

  • This technology already exist, GM use to make electric cars back in the 90's. You should all do a search on "Who Killed the Electric Car? (Part 1 of 11)"

You can buy conversion kits online for around 9000$ and you will pay about .016$ per mile. If you think that electric cars are slow you should take a look at Tesla Motors web site.

  • @username1201 Now we know who's getting the "$300M prize". Probably GM or some other buddy of theirs. Who knows. It's a slick way to laundry the tax payers cash, admit it!

  • as long as Obama keeps dancing on Oprah, you'll all be happy

  • This is what you get when people who leaves in isolation start to get bright ideas.

What would happens if China or Japan come up with the invention?

Maybe this seniles moron should stick to what he knows best, War Mongering.

and leave the economic and science to the people who really know whe matter.

McCain should be dealing with senior citizen retirement homes and stuff like that, and stop proposing ideas that seems to come from where the sun do not shine?

  • Har har har. They've already invented an efficient combustion system from water alone and oil companies bought the rights for over 1billion dollars. Shit...if I invent a more efficient battery, I'm getting my money from the oil companies. Earth is damned and deserves what it gets.

  • In a related story, Grampa is offering $300 to the person who can create a longer lasting battery for his Miracle Ear, and $3000 to the person who can create a contraption to keep those damn kids off his lawn.

  • What a maroon.

  • Sucess my ass. Your success is a failure in my world.

  • What happens when the pollution from the battery factory gets my children sick?

  • you mean like the shitty cfl light bulbs that contain mercury that your side wants to put in every home?

  • Man he totally doesn't get it. Batteries that meet those specs are aready available except for just one of the specs -- the cost. You don't lower the cost by 60% with more R&D. You lower the cost with mass production. That's what's lacking here not another prototype sitting on a lab shelf.

But then of course that might involve actually creating jobs, we wouldn't want that, now would we? Nor would we want Americans growing our own biofuel, lets just employ Brazilians to do that. Puke.

  • Look at algae. One acre can produce 100,000 gallon per acre. Two companies have two plants in production. And before you ask yes the algae can be used for diesel or gasoline cars just like oil is converted in to diesel and oil by processing it more. Also some species of algae doubles it size within 12 hours not days or months like other plants.

  • I watched a special on this the other day, best idea yet, unlike using corn (food) for fuel.

  • they have so many good other power sources out there but what does bush say no it's ok oil wont be that bad give it a year or to we will be ok

  • I was also hoping someone could develop a power source making my monte carlo capable of space flight.

  • Dude I can get a car battery at Sears, Wal-Mart, or Auto Zone for like 19.95!

Whats up with you offering 300 million?

  • He can say anything like this to get brownie points! Why not $500 million, why not a billion?

The point is, why didn't he suggest something like this YEARS ago, he just wants votes!

Think about all the things Bush said in 2000 (that he reneged on) to get elected! For all the greenwashing crap Bush said in 2000, you might have mistaken him for a sane person who is interested in being a responsible Earth citizen!

    Deja Vu!

    Bush's best bud is bogus.

  • I have a feeling he is lying to the people. i feel he is saying that to get votes. I predict with him gas will be near $200 a barrel by 2010 with mccain as president. I don't know i am just predicting

  • He has my vote. Hell yeah!

  • i'm with ya on that too.

  • Just to put those $300 mill into some perspective:

"As part of an annual meeting held in Berlin, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche says that the company will increase its R&D spending to $21 billion for the year 2010. A major part of those expenses will go towards alternative powerplants. Hydrogen and lithium ion batteries will make up a good chunk of these charges, and Zetsche claims that Daimler has made "a major breakthrough in battery technology.""

  • So I wonder if Daimler developed the battery after spending billions on research over the years, would they be doing a happy dance for the $300mill offered by McCain. The whole thing is a joke.

  • The tax break is not the solution though. It's not as if people wouldn't switch to hydrogen, it's that they can't. In your terms, the key is that McBush intends to stay in Iraq indefinitely and NOT invest in a pump system. Producing hydrogen is very expensive and requires a lot of energy. Unless you have a solar power plant system or other alternative energy to produce that energy, the tax break won't do jack towards oil independency.

  • Obama has proposed taxing windfall oil profits and reinvesting that money into alternative energies. This could lower oil prices in the short term but more importantly it could help build the pump system you are talking about for example. McCain opposed the windfall tax and proposed offshore drilling instead. The tax break you are talking about is useless in that context. It doesn't work and it doesn't make us independent of oil (because he would still use oil to produce the hydrogen)

  • Hydrogen (unlike oil) does not exist in significant amounts on earth because it is too light and escapes into space. It has to be produced.

  • Right sure and that windfall profit tax worked so well for Carter, oh wait no it didnt. The oil companies prodeced less oil, interest rates climb through the roof, unemplyment follwed suit. So where is this change Obama is promising, seems like Carterism all over again.

  • Dude, are you trying to make a point or just being an idiot? I just said you need alternative energies such as solar to produce hydrogen, so why are you repeating what I said as if you're making a new point. The point is that McCain is NOT proposing any serious way to solar energies, he wants to go drill offshore. The windfall tax does in fact create a better incentive than this $300ill gimmick. Carter's interest rate problems had nothing to do with windfall taxes.

  • It's totally asinine to assert that a windfall tax would raise interest rates. But I guess you're allowed to be a dumbass on YouTube. And I have no interest of discussing the stagflationary environment and monetary and fiscal environment of the Carter era. It has nothing to do with the issue on hand.

  • As for McBush's plans to stay in Iraq, I am not taking ANYTHING out of context. He said he intends to stay indefinitely. What you are trying to do is create a false analogy. The situation in Iraq is in no way comparable to the situation in Germany or in Japan and the American people know that. You have a raging civil war with no end in sight. The Maliki government is one of the closest allies to our enemies in Iran. There is no strategy there and I can't believe I have to school you on that LOL

  • NHMntnHIGH, listen yokel. It's funny how you think you're so much better than everyone else just because you don't support Obama, yet you spout nothing but the dumbest and most hypocritical nonsense nonstop. You make me laugh.

Oh and you're not an Independent, don't try to flatter yourself. You're a McBush Neocon bot, plain and simple.

    The end!

  • The battery in question has been created how many years ago? What about Stan Meyers who made a deal with pentagon on a car that runs on water.

  • Cars don't run on water. There are various methods to separate the hydrogen from the water via electrolysis, but these methods re

  • require another energy source. It's physically impossible to gain any net energy that way. And then the question is what this other energy source will be.

  • go listen to gordon novel...everyone knows the energy could be free now...mccain knows, it's his business to know...trust me...soon he'll be talking about protecting us from corruption...i'm just patiently waiting...and praying he'll get some ideas from paul and gravel...pray with me...mmmm..mmm...hehe...

  • i'd have to agree, McCain doesn't seem to take this seriously, he's giving away some "prize" just to see if someone else will do the work, so that he doesn't have to and can take some credit for it at the same time. What a sleezy gimmick. Do some real work McCain.

  • McCain is the carbon copy of George Bush. He only supports the oil barons and is determined to totally destroy our evironment. Ever notice he talks with an old man lisp? A Vote for McCain is a vote for another term of George Bush

  • Kimmay, keep your chin up and hope America is up to the challenge of looking past racism. In the meantime, in the words of Stephen Sondheim,

    I'm electrifying

    And I ain't even trying.

I never had to sweat to get paid

'Cause if you got a gimmick

Gypsy girl, you got it made.

Sounds like our buddy McShame has a new gimmick, and those energizer bunnies (is pink a form of red?) will be building these new batteries while we all empty our pockets for gas.

  • I wont hold it against McCain for offering this bounty. But I will vote for anyone that will go after these damn oil companies for robbing the American people. They have no reason to raise prices. There are far less cars on the road, there are more hybrids out there, and the oil companies are raking record breaking profits. All they have to do is CONTROL the supply, SCREW us over on demand. I dont care if I ever drive again, as long as the oil companies execs are brought to justice.

  • this guy doesn't even look or sound like a president.. but he's gonna win at the end.. very sad.

  • The 15 point lead Obama has disagrees with you klmmay9.

  • Maybe they can just declassify some of the batteries used by the US Military.

  • Engineers around the world have been working on it for years and a lot more than $300mill have been invested. I doubt that McBush's prize money will suddenly bring the solution LOL Nice try to take credit for any improvement that will be made in that area in the future though.

  • Also still leaves the question how do you load the battery. Even if you don't burn the fuel in the car, it might still be burned in the power plant. The battery is only part of the solution.

  • This is just another gimmick from the guy who does not even know (hello speech writers!!!) that there are no plug-in hybrids on the road (listen to his speech again). We need a guy like Al Gore to lead a nationwide effort to get us off oil, something Obama will do, while McCain leaves our future to corporations and big oil.

  • He is beginning to talk his way out of any responsibility to do anything. Leave it to the ingenuity of the American people to come up with something. Doesn't every American love to hear that. But the problem is, in order to find the solution you need a lot of money upfront. Whoever heard of a tech company running their R&D departments on the PROMISE of money. In reality they invest billions into equipment and staff to maybe find something that will make them money. That's the way this works.

  • The only thing you can get out of this gimmick is that McCain intends to do nothing to pave the way for energy independence. No tax breaks for companies who invest in energy independence or windfall taxes on oil profits that could be invested in alternative energies, no fuel efficiency standards that would create pressure to invest in those energies, no regulation or investment that would lead in the right direction. Just a measly prize money.

  • And btw the guys or more likely the company who develop that battery will make a lot more than 300 mill without McBush's help.

  • Look up Toyota RAV4 EV Chevron bought up the patent rights to the battery and shut down it's production...give me the 300 million please.

  • The first thing he's said that made sense. Unfortunately one good deed is not enough to change my vote.

  • Well that confirms it. The man has Alzheimer's.

  • wasn't he the same man who vote for all these failures unlike ron paul and obama

  • You Ron Paul activists are the most brainwashed of any body, you realize he is still not in the race, wtf get over yourselves.

  • this might work...sick of hearing about problems...want a solution/yesterday

  • is he real?

    He looks so fake

  • You just can't fake a whistle like that.

  • That really gets on my nerves, his talk whistling.

  • Agreed wholeheartedly. I have to admit (begrudgingly at times) he makes some good points and has some interesting things to say, but it's just so difficult to listen when you've got a high-pitched, grating whistle inserted in every other word.

  • Hell it would seem worth it to vote for Obama on just his public speaking skills. If the countries going to stay as fucked up as it is, at least we need someone who can talk sensibly.
