FAVORITE movies. Someone asks me my favorite movie[s], I tell them Clue and The Philadelphia Story. I'm sure these people know the difference between favorite movie and cinematic masterpieces. Though, TPS is pretty fantastic. And there's certainly nothing wrong with Princess Bride.

I can understand EVERYONE has thier own opinion about Peter Jackson's adaptation of Tolkien's work. But to say that he wasnt a fan and was JUST in it for personal gain I think is rubbish. The work Jackson put into that films is incredible. Just watch it! To make a movie that gorgeous and great and epic?....Well i could definately see the passion....since LOTRs came out name ONE movie that was at its caliber of excellence. I can't think of one. Movies like that are made with love and dedication.

It was a brilliant movie, but I had a couple of problems with it. 1, where was Tom bombidil? and 2, I think Sam and Frodo were far too into each other.

Jackson thought putting tom bombadil in a theatrical film singing his rhymes would defeat the cinematic urgency of the tension they were trying to build up in the first half of the film. So he took him out. I agree with him

Sam and Frodo weren't nearly as into each other as they were in the books. You remember Sam's speech about how "two-sided" he is? he couldn't decide whether or not to live with his new wife or to live with Frodo, he wanted both.Talk about sexual confusion.

They are brilliant movies, but not necessarily ones with which you develop this personal relationship that makes it your 'favorite movie'. I think mine would be The Ninth Gate or L.A. Confidential maybe.

Has he even read Tolkien's books? If you read them you'll see that they, and not Peter Jackson's poor adaptations are the real feat. Tolkien created another universe, new languages, peoples, forms of writing, flora and fauna. Jackson just thought he was better than Tolkien and butchered his work for his own gain.

How does liking Lord of the Rings make you a "geek"? Well I guess if you spend your time "encapsulated" with a poor movie trilogy you are. This guy's exceedingly thick.

Do people not see how well he pulled off filming those three films at once and bringing Middle Earth to life. No it's the same condescending jerks who just like to say "the book was better" and diss everything popular to stroke their own egos. If those were the metrics of a great movie then Titanic would be the best movie of all time, but it wasn't, by a long shot. Even its casting was questionable. Ok, so maybe I drank a little wine that night, it's wasn't shit. But it's definitely overrated. Jackson's King Kong was much better for example. Better score, more solid film all round. Most fans of the book were disappointed from what I hear. Yeah the book is always better, but ultimately the film didn't quite have that je ne sais quoi.
