  • This is great. Thanks!

  • So stoked i found this! Ive been so stuck in my ways of same ol boring style! Cant wait to get practicing this!!

  • good teaching, having independence i think is one of the most important, i needed this..its just boring to practice tho,,,grrrrr lol

  • sry for commenting too mcuh but aren't we supposed to avoid lifting up foots when hitting bass drum to avoid the beater bouncing, or is that how you made the bass drum sound loose and long? thankss

  • @EvilN00ber To be honest, I had a problem with my beater bouncing years ago but no longer. I think it may be because I now use an Axis pedal which is a direct drive pedal.

  • @kindbeats oh so we're supposed to make the beater stick to the bass drum :) thx

  • @EvilN00ber If you want a deep open tone, pull your foot away from the bass drum immediately after hitting the head.

  • @kindbeats right, thank you very much

  • oh and I'll use ur 'if it's not challenging, it's not worth doing' on fb as my fav quote :D

  • im seriously glad to watch vids and learn from this awesome and creative teacher :")

  • @EvilN00ber Thank you so much!

  • Either you're seated really low, or that hi-hat stand is massive! Haha

  • @ZeTaEXiSTeNZ lol I was definitely seated low in that video. I finally have a throne that works again so I'm back to playing at normal heights.

  • @kindbeats wow thanks dude and btw sorry if you have several billion versions of the same comment my you tube has a habbit of doing that xD

  • @Madnessofmusic haha No sweat!

  • Throw a felt strip on that bass drum.

  • @utubeworms I prefer my bass drum to have a somewhat open tone. Just a matter of personal taste.

  • @kindbeats A felt strip will still sound open, it just gets rid of some of the boingyness.

  • Man, what a crazy movies! I've been 4 years off my drums, now I'm on the begin again. Do you have any finger technique on Youtube? Thanks!

  • @matheusfstety I have a crazy one handed drum 'n bass blast technique that I do with my fingers. You can find the video that explains it in the "Drum Lessons with Andrew McAuley" playlist on my youtube page. I hope you enjoy it! :)

  • really helpful lesson, and that was a SICK solo at the end, i love all the little gizmos on your kit

  • @penguinsauce87 Thanks and I'm glad you found the lesson helpful! :)

  • @kindbeats thanks for the lessons, but their is still one problem i keep getting any chance you could give me a hand with it?

  • @Madnessofmusic Sure, what's the problem?

  • @kindbeats if im hitting standard quatar notes and i try to speed up the bass my hand speeds up too, any way of getting round that

  • @Madnessofmusic The best way to get around any independence problem is simply repetition and taking things slowly at first. Muscle memory develops after we try to do something over and over, so the best way to achieve that is by practicing slowly and accurately. Once it's as simple as cake for you AND correct, kick it up a couple of bpm's on the metronome and repeat the same thing. Hope this helped!

  • Great vid, But you must have serious back problems! :)

  • @TomWrightTheDrummer lol I actually just have a broken throne so I can't sit correctly at the moment. Getting a new one in two weeks and then it's back to proper posture! :)

  • @kindbeats :) haha, some great videos though, are you quite into jazz then?

  • @TomWrightTheDrummer Thanks! Yes, the jazz approach is the one I can relate to the most musically, but I don't know a lot of songs by name and whatnot. I love playing just about everything.

  • @kindbeats Cool! Im the same, Im really enjoying playing jazz at the minute, Id recommend John Riley's 'Art of Bop drumming' if you've not already been though it, it really should be titled the bible of bop drumming its great! Anyway all the best, really enjoying your stuff :)

  • Thanks for this. I've been champing at the bit for some instruction about how to get my limbs to act independently of one another ... and here it is.

  • @wedel219 I'm glad you found this lesson helpful. It's a great exercise and you can throw in any other rudiments that you would like. Enjoy!

  • Now what is a paradiddle?

  • @GnM196 RLRR LRLL

  • @kindbeats thank you

  • @GnM196 RLRR LRLL is a single paradiddle, you can mess around with double and triple paradiddles too: RLRRLL RLRRLL RLRRLL or LRLLRR LRLLRR LRLLRR, and triples RLRRLLRR LRLLRRLL RLRRLLRR LRLLRRLL etc..

  • sweet

  • Your demonstration sounds like Benny Greb' playing , amazing !

  • great lesson! just a tip, play the samba and baião ostinatos as 2/4, they will flow even better! :)

  • @RntCrazy thanks man! I normally count samba and baião in the traditional 2/4 feel, but I wanted to make it simpler for beginning students who might only be used to counting in 4/4. Glad you enjoyed the vid!

  • how long does it take to master this?

  • @Zalfion There's no set amount of time because everybody learns at a different rate. All I can say is hard work and persistence will get you there!

  • @kindbeats WORKING ON IT!

  • "if its not challenging its not worth doing"

I like that. Thanks for the lesson. That was awesome.

  • Im so glad I became a member on YouTube, because stuff like you is definitely worth commenting on. Great deals buddy.

  • Easy to understand and easy to break down. You make these exercises accessible and easy to grasp. Good teaching my man!

  • wow nice lesson thx 4 shering :)

  • wow another great video. iv been playing drums for 6 years and these exercises are going to help tremendously!!! THANKS MAN!!!

  • @skater8o5 glad I could help!

  • Thanx maaan, very very helpfull!!!!

  • your solo at 5:30 is very tasty :D and i really like the cymbal to the right of your ride cymbal. very cool!

  • great lesson dude. ive been playing all sorts of around the kit and single stroke rolls between hand and feet and FORGOT TO practice independence. Küdos~

  • Great vid! What model ride is that, and also the piece next to it?

    Awesome sound!

  • Hey, thanks so much! I believe the ride in this video is a Zildjian K Constantinople with rivets. The piece next to it is made by Hammeraxe and is called "The Meanie".

  • I really like your style !

I will try those exercises eventhough Ive been playing for almost 2 years now but Im still not able to perform the samba.

    Any advice ?

  • You're a lot like my old drum teacher. He focused a lot on having great independence and really going away from the normal beats. He was an amazing teacher.

  • i think that i am decent at drums i know im not really really good but i think im decent and im going to learn this stuff to be a better drummer. thanks man. you remind me of danny carey haha.

  • hey, thanks for checking out the vid! your attitude is great, and with that way of thinking you are sure to get better! thanks again!

  • that was tight! thanks

  • dude thank you soooo much for this vid extremely helpful

  • thanks for the vid :) very helpful excersise

  • thank you for challenge and inspiration. subscribed. :)

  • omg my stupid computer!! god damnit i have to watch this another day

  • Nice. very Nice!

  • Great lesson, i had a teacher who taught me these too, and he also used to get me to cycle through the bass and high-hat rythms.

Also Great solo at the end.

and was that a little tom or something u were hitting under the camera?

  • thanks so much man! the drum you can't see on the camera is actually a second snare that I keep cranked, but the snares are dropped on it in this vid.

  • aah ok, sweet

  • You sir, have just inspired me to go that much farther then just progressive playing such as Mike Portnoy and John Theodore. Thank you so much.

  • hey man, thank you so much man. Your words inspire ME to keep creating. thanks again, and keep playing your heart out!

  • Loved the solo thing at the end. When you was using a stick to change the pitch on the high tom it sounded awesome. I can never get it to sound like that. Good video!

  • Great lesson, Andrew! Exactly right. If it's not challenging, it's not worth doing! To improve, one must constantly challenge oneself. Keep 'em coming! 5 stars.

  • Great stuff!!!

  • Great Video

This is gonna kill me trying to do just the first one, but it's great to have something to work towards, so thanks! Cool solo thing at the end, I haven't heard many "world" grooves like that (I can't think of how to describe it ...)
