You folks have said it all. I too grew up on this stuff and it NEVER GETS OLD!!! THIS HERE - THIS IS MUSIC!!!! In my next life I'm gonna come back as a Hammond C3.!! OH Yeah!!
ALL OF THE COMMENTS ARE A TRIP I USED TO HERE MUSIC LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME GROWING UP IN DETROIT AND I NEVER THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD HAVE THIS TYPE OF EFFECT ON THE WORLD . THEY JUST DONT MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE . MUSIC TODAY REALLY SUCKS DONT GET ME WRONG I LIKE ALL TYPES OF MUSIC BUT ITS IN A SAD STATE.
Why didn't The Cat, at 3:27, cross over & catch at least, say, 15% of the success Take Five did? Plus, with Take Five in 5/4, this was a little more danceable, no?
gooberspal, it is a three-note chord, at the 14-15 fret. dgb strings. the e and bflat at the 14/15 are bent slightly sharp while the d is held constant on top.
@joegagan Thanks very much for taking the time to let me know about that grip! As I said, it's been a tantalizing mystery to me for years -- I don't play the guitar, but I love it. (I'm a trombone-player.)
Can any guitar players out there tell me what the voicing is that Burrell plays at 1:24 on beat two of the bar? And, of course, at the equivalent spots later in the chorus. It's been captivating me for years!
At 8 years old (too much info!), this was the first 45 record I bought. A week or two thereafter, my first LP album was Etta James (w/ "Roll with Me Henry", "Woman", "Do Something Crazy", "Good Rockin' Daddy", "Strange Things Are Happening", etc.)!
"Bluesette (Bluzette?)" is my most favorite Jimmy Smith song!
@Reelistiksounds where is the the cat video that shows black cat strolling then meets white cat and tangles it's on you tube somewhere.. i watched it yesterday and now it's gone ??? or hidden WTF?????

A jazz marketing question to those that know:
