I just found out I'm a schizoid personality, but I'm pleased. All my life I just thought I was bad, weird or incapable of a normal social life. Now I can let myself off the hook a bit. Also, some do not consider this a personality "disorder" but simply that certain people are built that way.
@MuchAdoAboutDiddley The word disorder means that it brings a problem. If you or the people around you doesnt have a problem with your personnality, then you dont have a disorder and you dont fit its primary description. Of course, that is, as long as you dont deny it if you actually have a problem and just is'nt able to acknowledge it. Most of the time, the hardest part of a therapy is doing just that.
I've always wanted to know why shiziods don't like showing emotions were they traumitized and think showing emotions will show vulnerability? they're not really shy they just don't care it gets annoying sometimes because they can make good friends well the one I know can because she's loyal and nice But since we are closely related she doesn't want to have intimtae friendship with me specifically because I show more emotions and like talking about sensitive deep topics more then other relatives.
if you suspect you may be schizoid, Take the meyer briggs personality test, My theory is that schizoids tend to be INTJ's which are the rarest out of all personalitys.
Also could you list your body type, ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph, My theory is that ectomorphs are more likely to be schizoid.
@ppatricide I read infp's are 1-5% but the reason I say INTj are more likely to be schizoid, is because they are considered the least sociable out of any other personality type, the are most independent , disregard for rank and authority of others goes into the narcissistic part of schizoids. you should read into the intj its very interesting.
I do agree that certain characteristics of the typical INTJ do match those of the typical schizoid. But each INTJ and schizoid is different, more emphasis on the latter. Some are heavily effected by their "condition" while others only slightly - and the fact that many schizoids are coupled with one or two other personality disorders certainly throws in a wild card. Personally, I am an INFP schizoid.
It might just be me, but I have the feeling that people who like to be alone, or want to spend more time alone are more often diagnosed with a disorder than people who can't be alone. Just because one is more culturally accepted than the other.
You people should stop freaking out that you have a disorder. The DSM states that 5 of the 9 traits must be observed by a mental health professional for the disorder to even be considered for diagnosis. This disorder is only prevalent in .5-1% of the population, so the odds are slim that any of you actually have it.
Why would it cause people to freak out anyway? It's not like it has a terrible prognosis, unlike schizophrenics or manic depressives who are essentially at the mercy of their disease those with personality disorders are quite happy being the way they are which is why personality disorders are so difficult to treat.
I'm an introvert but have developed social skills and people generally like me. Still I also tend not to respond to criticisms about my character. Also mostly only in extreme cases do I genuinely share sympathy to the emotional needs of others. I am however a very considerate person.
I do like repetitiveness more than is normal I'd say. I like watching reruns for shows so many times it drives my family crazy. When it comes to specific activities I just cant seem to get tired of them.
@Otherworld314 It's considered a disorder because the severity of it "disorders" one's life. SPD ruins various aspects of one's life, it is not merely liking to be alone. It leads to all kinds of other problems which in turn lead to depression and, in some cases, suicide. But it isn't just a label. There really is a description. Anyway, if we didn't give it a name, how would anyone ever be able to talk about it? It's not offensive.
It shouldn't be. What is wrong with wanting to be alone, and why don't people just leave us be? We don't do any harm. I don't mind being with people for short periods of time but they try to get you to go out and mix with others. Then it causes me anxiety.
@poussecafe3 There is a difference between Schizoid Personality Disorder and Schizophrenia. Schizoid Personality Disorder = You are alone with a box. Schizophrenia = You are alone with a box that is "talking" to you.
why cant you use a normal voice instead of talking like a robot?

It's nice theatre. Such is mainstream Psychology practices and culture.

Psychiatrists want to label loners as schizophrenics. What a dangerous science.

@rpcarnell This is NOT schizophrenia, which is a different disorder entirely.

INTJ is a rare type (1-4 percent of the population) but it is not the rarest. INFP is with under 1 percent of the population.

@NearVSMello All people have neurotic traits and this does not necessarily mean that they have the disorder.
