I feel like a horrible person for crying at Envy's death and not Hughes.. Seriously i hated Envy so much. It was like "Yes he is finally gonna die!!" and then he actually died and i was in tears lol
What really got me in this scene was the fact that Envy actually called Ed by his name. He had never done that before, calling him 'Pipsqueak' all the time. It's so ironic that his last words were Ed's full name, which was probably the most respect he had ever shown anyone. And it was fitting since it was Ed who made him realize he was jealous of humans. It was the cherry on top of what was I think the most pitiable death in the whole series.

When he transforms into Hughes wife to show off how he killed Hughes, you think he's a pathetic slug that Roy needs to just kill, but when they finally corner him you begin to wish that he doesn't have to die. Envy was jealous of humans and therefore took out his anger on them.

The ability to love, the ability to show kindness, but most importantly, the ability to stand up with other humans, despite being beaten up so many times. hence the name Envy.

Envy shot a child to ignite a war, he kills people masked as who they love the most, he is evil, sadistic, and seriously twisted...yet his death was somehow one of the saddest moments in the anime. Making us feel sympathy for someone that evil is monument to Hiromu Arakawa's skill as a writer.
@Szayel22 Am i the only one who found fathers end sad as well. He was fucked in the start because of humans who used him as a experiment and gave him no freedom. As far as im concerned. All the deaths father inflicted were both his and human kinds fault.

@ydfgydg I liked him as a character he was developed decently and served the sort of mid boss purpose out of the homunculi. His death was well put together cheesy but well together.

But I would rather see Pride as a mid-boss, after all envy's fighting abilities were not as good as they were in FMA. He could not even really hurt Ling.

In that forest where he fought against Ling and Ed and Al against Gluttony (and they all got swallowed up by Gluttony except of Al), Ling had the upper hand always/most of the time. And in Gluttony's stomach Envy transformed into his big form and still wasn't able to kill Ed and Ling, although the two of them did have some problems against him.
And I believe that in Brotherhood Envy doesn't have the role of a fighter but is more of an assasin or a messenger.
Go figure. I spend the entire series wondering and waiting for that bastard Envy to be killed, and they go ahead and make it one of the saddest scenes I have ever seen. Now I actually feel bad for him.
Can you really blame him? Jealousy can turn the sweetest victim into the most sadistic tyrant. In the Bible a beautiful woman was turned into a dragon for her jealousy, that's where the term, green monster of jealousy came from-envy being the incarnate never had a choice.
