  • Solid as a rock and thumps up! Enjoyed your show. Is that an Alembic?...and i see Mr. BerNARD Wright's cd behind ya on the shelf, tha master rocker from haboglabotribin' land lol. Peace and hairgrease!

  • Oh, my bad. I'm reading just now that it's a Schecter Diamond Custom 4.

  • @dx318 they are pretty good basses and very light and easy to play, but I've since moved on! The NARD album is brilliant, always looking for more albums like that!

  • The funk is unbearable! ;)

  • @kinshasaAPP thanks mate, check out my version of Pursuit Of Accidents, see what you think..

  • Only after 30 mins! WOW! Those fingerstyle bits are really impressive. That is something I need to improve. It's just so fast my left hand gets a little confused LOL!

  • @MrMel0dy cheers mate, its hard going! I'm extremely right handed so getting the left upto speed take work, but it just clicks, I couldn't do the things I do now 2 years ago. I've only been concentrating on the bass properly in the last 2 years and my early vids show that, some are bloody awful and the digi cam I used was rubbish!

Just keep practicing, it all makes sence soon, I'm still no master at playing The Chinese Way, but tracks like get your fingerstyle sorted :)

  • Great cover J, you figured out the entire solo! Definitely one of my favorite lvl42 tracks too. The older the lvl42 song the more SC influences you can hear :)

  • @ramon709 Hi Ramon. Thanks mate, it was about half an hour of working out, so I'm glad most of it came out alright! The early b-sides really are masterpieces, I hope they go back to basics and do some work like this again. The finger sections are quite tricky, especailly when you are thumb happy like me!

  • @jonannlou One can only wish they go back to their roots, although nothing wrong with lessons in love and all those later songs :)

I never listen to the retroglide album to be honest, technically the album is awesome, but it just don't fascinate me like the old stuff does.

Speeking about B sides, the song 'freedom' is that a B side too? I never payed attention to that song till now, it has a pretty great bass groove. I am learning it now :)

  • @ramon709 I'm a fan of it all, but imagine what they could write now with the experience and musicianship they have. Forget the sales and lets hear ya show off boys!!

Do you mean Freedom by Thunderthumbs etc... Its from 1982 and was just MK & ML having some fun! Have you heard the b-side 'Freedom A Gogo'? Good bass solo ;)

  • @jonannlou Well they may be suprised about the sales if they start creating oldskool instrumentals again. There are many jazz lovers out there that don't even know the old fusion side of lvl42.

Yeah thats the one I ment, it's a pretty cool latin type song with a nice dry groove. I don't think I know the other one, or it is one of those disks you gave me. I have look and see if it is one it :)

  • @ramon709 Hi Ramon, double check the Expohal gig, it might be there, I'll have a search for it. Its a shame there aren't more people who know about the early raw material, they might get tempted to do some more! I'll have a look for the bass solo version of Freedom :)

  • This is the reason why Mark King has been such a huge inspiration to so many bassplayer all alround the world. One of my farvorite Level 42 tracks. And very nice played. I like that you use that harmonics + string bend that he does, my bass always goes out of tune after that..hehe...

  • @Generalbas1972 cheers mate, I've listened to this gig so many times I had to put the harmonics in when MK does.

AS 42 are. MK is highly under-rated, many people are now worshipping guys like Wooten who is massivley talented, but its MK that me want to pick my bass up and thier songs keep me listening. Just my opinion anyway :)

  • One of your best vids so far matey. I love this tune. Well done.

    Cheers D

  • @DamonUK cheers D, another under-estimated 42 track... name that gig.... One day I'll attempt The Return Of The..... but not yet, my fingers are still recovering from this one! Might do its a happening for a bit of fun.

Glad you liked this D, its one of those tracks that I wanted to try but get stuck with MK's speed and accuracy, but he did a couple of mistakes on this version! At least he's human!

  • Man... I wish I could play like that... Awesome!!!!

  • @sirmoog mate, you can play anything you want! You are a very talented fella.

  • If L42 were to decide to include this one in their live show, Mark King would ring you first to ask how it is played.

    Marvelous job funkbro.

  • @Geeljasjes Thanks G! It might be 30 years since they did this live, but I think young MK could still do it ;) Would be nice to hear this one in the set again and I think they should finally put in The Return Of The Handsome Rugged Man, actully.... Lets get them to a purely instrumantal set, and they could do some new ones too?? Petition?

  • @jonannlou

I think they did that a couple years ago.

Type in Level 42 Billy Cobham.

  • @Geeljasjes Ok mate, thought that was Foundation & Empire from memory!

    Cheers G

  • @jonannlou

    You're right.

I should know better than telling you things about L42.

Have you ever played Return Of The Handsome Rugged Man?

  • @Geeljasjes Hehe, I am a 42 Geek I'm afraid! I was listening to that last night, I want to do that one, but its going to be an absolute nightmare to work out. Shapeshifter might be a good'un to do, but theres always tricky bits in 42 tracks!!!

  • Wicked track... great cover as well!

    :)

  • @Anonymous1885 Glad you enjoyed that mate, good to hear L42 showing off what they could do even back then! Hope I joined in alright. :)

  • SICK!!!

    That was soo awesome.

    Greatt cover!

  • @AlexKalicinski cheers mate, its knackered my fingers doing that one! Glad you enjoyed it

  • love this track, first time haring it. thx

  • @SethGoTribe wow, that was quick, its just loaded! First time hearing this? Check out the Level 42 back catalogue, theres alot of lesser known tracks on the re-issues etc... I did it the hard way and collected the singles years ago! This version is from an unreleased live album, so hard to find.

    Glad you enjoyed it :)
