  • It's not Irish song but song of Bretagne !!

  • fun, in dutch they said ''fucking whores'' , awsome song!

  • Go raibh mile maith agat!!!

  • The Irish surrounded and butchered the fleeing vikings.Obvously Brian died the same day but Maelsechnaill lived another eight years after and was seen by many after the battle as Highking but it was in name only as his power had been weakened years earlier.Brian was a great king because he invisioned a united Island he had his own navy he built roads and restored many monastries destroyed by viking raiding and was a great military leader. But spare a thought for noble Maelsechnaill Mac domnaill

  • They began coordinating attacks on vikings and even defeated a native Irish army allied to the vikings at the battle of Glenama in wicklow.Eventually Brian put pressure on Maelsechnaill to relinquish his claims to he highkingship and unable to raise a big enough force to face brian in battle he gave up his claim.Even at clontarf maelsechnaill was there, but his men seemed to watch the battle and do nothing but when the vikings began to retreat he cut them off from there ships.

  • Brian was not the only man to have great victories over the vikings. He had a great ally in Mael sechnaill Mac Domnall of clann cholmain of the southern Ui naill.Mael sechnaill fought and won a decisive victory over the vikings without Brian in 980 AD.This battle was the battle of tara and the victory led to a siege of viking dublin which surrendered to Mael sechnaill after three days.He and brian would share the high kingship Brian as king of the south and Maelsechnaill king of the north.

  • Ar fheabhas! Go h'alainn. Go raibh maith agat. Ba mhaith liom an ceolchoirm anseo. Ceirnin? Cuirfidh me ceist duinne eigin eile. Siochan agus beannacht leat agus beannacht De le hanamacha na marbh. Slan.

  • i am a descendant of Brian Boru so thankyou for this

  • I speak Irish fluently, but some of these words are not of my language, I think you've mixed abit of Cornish or Welsh or something in that?

The song also speaks abit in Irish then goes Welsh or something. :S

  • @MrJoshuaPadraig The other language isn't Cornish nor Welsh. It's Breton. The singer and composer is the most well-known artist from Bretagne (which is located in Northwest France), where Breton is spoken

  • @rikkot

ahh right, I didn't know what it was so I took a wild guess. I knew it wasn't manx because I can understand manx abit because some of it same as irish.

  • Can you imagine that songs like this being played. From Ireland all the way to the borders of Turkey. The Celts truly are one of histories great cultures. The Romans and Greeks painted a terrible image of our ancestors. Thats okay though Europe today is very much the way the Celts left it. Thank good for that.

  • As an American with much of Ireland in my blood, Many thanks for honoring the Red Lion of Ireland,

  • awesome ^^

  • you did well with the translation (i can only suppose) bravo et merci

  • is it me or does the warrior at 1:22 look like prince william of england ?

  • Thanks for the lyrics, but the way stivell mistreated the most emblematic of pre-O'Carolan Irish tunes still reminds me why I stopped following him 15 years ago.

  • @Svartalf14 Without Alan Stivell, Irish, Breton and celtic music in general would be stuck in these little traditional region of the celts nations! I have been playing in fest noz and céili, me family is from Ireland and Brittany, and I can tell ye this my lad: we surely haven't the same definition of "mistreating a tune!" (What is that "legend of brian boru" ye published in yer own videos covering Rasputin from Boney M?????) Breizh hag Iwerzon ma Brod atao!!! Slàn go foill!!

  • @branvihan Ach I dont think so, sure we didnt travel across Europe with our music and culture just to end up sitting quietly in any wee region ...and the musics way too good to ever keep a secret! Sláinte mhór agad

  • Is it difficult for a foreigner to learn the Celtic language?

  • @AureusVenerabilis Depends mostly if you know any related languages with a similar structure. But the words, definitely. As well as grammar & pronouncing. But building up sentences will be a lot easier if you know something related, say, Swedish or English for example. Too bad the Celtic languages are extinct by now, which makes it very hard to learn them. But they need to be preserved!

  • @DiabolusIgnis our language is not extinct , on the contrary if you go to any village in ireland , wales , scotland you will hear the celtic language ,

  • @antohonyp Durr, brainfarts. I was thinking of Gaulish.

  • @antohonyp What rubbish. Have you ever been here?

  • @flaxenkj are you saying a man born in dublin ireland is not celtic?????, been were exactly??? ireland??????, i think i would know, have yu ever been here???

  • @antohonyp

A man born in Dublin does not make him off the Celtic race. Maybe his family come from abroad, turkey or something. Irish/Celtic is an ethnicity

  • @MrJoshuaPadraig

i'm born in Montréal, i'm the 13th generation from Louis O'Brien and we can clerly see celtic blood in my veins.

    Salut de l'autre côté de l'Atlantique !!!

  • @DiabolusIgnis The celtic languages are not extinct!! Irish is the official language of Ireland (spoken by 15% as a 1st language and know to about 40%). Welsh is used in the media in Wales (there's a BBC channel in Welsh). Scots Gaelic is still spoken in the Highlands and the Scottish Isles. Breton has virtually no support by the French government, but it's still spoken and here we have someone using it in his music.

Swedish and English are very, very remotely related to Celtic Languages.

  • @rikkot ... I am very well aware of that, which you would too, had you read the other answers I received.

  • @AureusVenerabilis There are several Celtic languages.

Still spoken today are Irish (Gaelic), Scots Gaelic, Welsh and Breton. There are all different languages, much more different among each other than Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French, for example.

  • Don't know Irish but my dad is Irish and have heard this before and I love this song. Don't understand a word of it but I love it anyway

  • Back in 1000. died Brian Boru, on the emerald Irish isle,

But his fiery locks and golden harp survive him for the while.

The banner and the sword, remain driven in the ground,

And peace is back in Ulster, how ever sweet the sound,

When war is a'brewin' or peace is afoot, may a god bless our love.

  • @chrisbreizh29 Down by the riverside,

Like Erin, we've freedom and pride,

My soul, my love, over the sea you lie !

To hide our love in the midst of upheaval,

    Burdened by judgment and disapproval,

In a race against time and sunlight on we pressed,

Near, the cliffs we lay to rest.

When war is a'brewin' or peace is afoot, may a god believe in love.

  • @chrisbreizh29 Dead Brian Boru gives life to lreland,

In a tree of peace, come light the garland,

The children know the fear of hell no more.

Peace has at last come to Ulster's door.

When war is a'brewin' or peace is afoot, may a god bless our love.

    Down by the riverside,

Like Erin, we've freedom and pride,

My soul, my love, over the sea you lie!

  • type brian boru alan stivell for people who search lyric

  • I recently discovered I'm related to Brian...Its such a weird feeling knowing something like that...Listening to this makes me feel really emotional ...so beautiful :) x

  • @miche30584 Well... Technically you might be, but didn't he die over a millenia ago? That's quite a distant relative =P I'm a descendant of the former royal family of Sweden, but I don't feel too blue-blooded for that x)

But yes. Beautiful. Backed up by a fact that me, a man who listens mostly anything from metal to EBM, loves this song anyway. No soul should go untouched by this masterpiece.

  • Thank you so much for the translation. :)

  • Love this song.. but not that much when the woman is singing x)

  • This guy's Irish pronunciation is so fleeting - he skips on the endings making it almost unintelligible - sounds very northern form a second language speaker but very polished, elusive.

Is deas liom an ceol agus an t-óran, ar aon nós.

  • ERIN GOE RAUGH!!!!

  • EPIC !!

  • Irish is the most beautiful language on the world. Can anybody transcribe it? I want to sing it, but for me (I'm from Poland) the text has nothing in common with what I hear :D

  • @Velmyle I really want to learn Irish but prononciation is difficult. But we can say that about french....

  • Great song!

    Bevet Breizh hag Iwerzhon !!!

  • I love the Irish! I have great respect for their fighting spirit and I think that Ireland is a beautiful country! And their style of music is very powerful; the kind that you could march into battle with. This song is a greart example!

  • @bluethunder25 sorry but this song is not irish

  • @bluethunder25 that's cuz it is for marching into battle lol well some is we wrote songs about doing everything in ancient times

  • Brian Boru is my great great uncle........I guess that makes me a prince doesnt is (:

  • @ProductionPeaceMaker That would make you over 600 years old O_O

Since 'great great' only encompasses 3 generations - 300-400 years

  • I wonder why no one has made a movie about Brian Boru or Cu Chulainn?

  • @hollywoodwerewolf yeah that would be a great movie.pierce brosnan or collin o'farell

  • @hollywoodwerewolf - Be extremely hard to do it right in my opinion - its very sacred stuff

  • if your interested in irish family clan history check out this video on my page about the McMahon Family cousins of the O'Briens and descendants of Brian Boru

  • my name is boru!hahahaha.i am now proud to have this name.

  • The first image at around 20 seconds..... Where did you get that from? I have been searching for this specific art. I don't know the artist or where I might find it.

  • @neiljdonn

the image around 0:20 is Thor, i think.

probably came from a comic book, not sure.

  • @fujiwara1977 It didnt it came from a well known irish artist, Jim Fitzpatrick and its the ancient kings os Ireland.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful, thank you!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • magnificent
