@Gehenna71 Your Grandkids will say- "Grandad, we prefer 'Specta-dub'!!!. What on Earth is Akid???" Thank Heavens we like it now!!! But, I am 46, & when 'Specta-dub' comes out. Ii will like this too! I WILL NOT BE LEFT BEHIND WITH MUSIC!!! When I'm 75, I still want to go into a pub & go "Oh, this is 'Crimson plinth bubble'. I like them" Cos, all I hear in my local is old men thinking that Bill Haley is still cool!!!!
I Think some guys here are a little lost. This is Not Acid House,Its Acid Techno! You cant demand it to be Cheesy or lost like Chicago Acid. This kind of thing is suitable for shitting the pants while dancing like crazy in a rave, not to a slower Club or warehouse environment, which is more calm, funky and relaxed.
And funny that people tries to put the race card thing into every discussion. Chicago Afroamericans created Acid House, and inflenced White brits, that created Acid Techno. No Racism.
@eduds6 again, they are TWO DIFFERENT SCENES! one is an afro-american r&b based phenomanon, and this is a european LSD/MDMA phenomena meant for a completly diferent audience and state of mind, this is a form of mass communal psychedelia! it cant and wont compare with chicago house and neither shud it. is ther such a need to be so anal about stuff thats meant to be fun?
Agree, and thats what i tried to explain to that guy. I Just dont agree to the total "Drug" sciene(As there are a lot of people that just loves the sound without drugs),Acid techno has power,Acid House has funk and melody, two different sounds created to 2 differently minded audiences.
@eduds6 am just a bit confused why you posted your comment tho. you surely must know that in UK the distinctions of the use of the word acid-house is very elastic, and can mean anything from the happy mondays, to acid-techno. and the chicago scene here was fairly small, and not involved in the same circles. so in a way posting a comment saying that none of this is acid-house (in the strict chicago sense) seems fairly irrelevant to this page i think.
Nice tune. You can hear lots of references. Josh Wink, Hardfloor etc. The germans are mad for techno and you can hear that a lot in this track. Not so much acid house. I think at the time a lot of artists were doing this sort of thing and it took a special kind of one to come up with a truly great track. Anyone can just fiddle with the knobs and plug a distortion unit up to it and make it squeal!
i'd consider it more 90's wharehouse stomping rave acid techno than acid-house . It's kinda of like the stuff that came from smitten, spiral tribe and drop bass network . Sure that stuff had 303's and four to the floor, but it was much faster and thus sometimes more aggressive sounding to the rave-ignorant ear .
acid is nice, but after the first 2 minutes the tune just sounds the same. i can only tolerate this stuff for long periods of time when im off my face at a rave.
I agree with you. However, the original acid house made in Chicago by Black underground DJs is quite different from this kind of souless noisy track which dominated from Europe from the 90s. The original Black American acid house was truly funky and had soul. It was hypnotic and relaxing, yet made you feel like dancing too. It was ear candy. Sweet.
@DJmixmastermicro Even though this track isn't great for me, it's to repetitive and doesn't really have much going, but I think that in the middle late 1990s acid house tracks were at their best, and most came from New York and Europe at that time. I'm talking about Dj's like Richard Grey, Abe Duque, Josh Wink, Ian Pooley. And honestly, most chicago house sounded like pop to me.... 2 tracks coming to mind are voodoo ray and acid tracks by gerald and fast eddie... Phuture is one guy I respect.
@DJmixmastermicro Tell me in the face "Ian Pooley - Sure !" doesn't sound soulful enough for You or another classic Robotman - Do Da Doo (Plastikman acid house remix) doesn't sound deep and mathematical.
this has a more techno like programming, not saying it's techno, but it is more focussed on people using drugs I suppose, its not very melodic or even close to funky, which definetly can be found within the genre.
@DJmixmastermicro souless my ballox mate. chicago and uk/eu aid wre just diferent cultures. the european stuff was tribal stomp, the chicago stuff disco/r&b-based.
i didnt get into this stuff till i was in my late 20s in mid 90s and it was anything but souless.
The TB303 was one of the most pointless instruments of all time, Difficult to program & made silly noises to those who thought it could be a good Bassline machine.....& I agree.........Then Herb J, DJ Pierre, Spanky & Marshall Jefferson got hold of it & made an experimental track called 'Acid Trax'. The 303 then became the most iconic 'dance music' instrunent of all time. Which we now thank them for! Big respect!
I dont think Roland is father of acid house, because they never intended to make a bass machine for dance music at all. Roland made TB-303 for rock guitarists as auto-accompany bass. But guitarists didnt like it and threw it out. TB 303 was a failure that quickly became junk in the pawn shop. The real fathers of acid house were underground black DJS of innercity Chicago who were so poor they could only afford junk from the pawn shop to make music. One of the junk was TB 303.
Hey, I was mixing this track today. It's on the acid flash vol 1 compilation. I downloaded all 13 compilations from piratebay. Awesome download!!! Acid lives!!!
software. hardware like the tb 303 have become obsolete with the invention of programs liek reason, which give you a virtual rack and place stations like this on the virtual rack.
The TB-303 is as unique as a digery doo, there are never two that sound the same due to the materials used to make them. With software they all sound the same. If software was so good then why do people still play guitars?
Oh sooooo sweeeeet!! or as we say in Holland: lekkerrrrrrrrrrrrr!! after 25jrs of making/mixing all kinds of electronic music i still make acidhouse THANX ALL u 303 LOVERS ;)
Have you heard can't take it, by INTERLECT 3000. Around the middle the 303 pattern changes and comes back in the break down with two 303 lines at the same time and since the TB-303 is a monophonic machine I still think that this could be sofwtare. Do you know what drum machine is being used? That sounds like softwrare too! Arron
When you mix on a real mixer, you have a certain amount of headroom each channel and a master channels have. When you put slightly more volume than a channel can handle, you'll get an overdrive. Mixer overdrive compresses each sound in a mix tighter together, like a real compressor and tape do as well.
