i have this on my phone .. if im just texting and i go too fast itll activate the swype , freeze for a second , then insert a completely different word .. its so annoying
I have this on my Android and it is FAR faster and way more accurate than typing. I've raced friends and family to enter phrases on our phones and its never a contest. Then when they try Swype on my phone, they realize they're one MAJOR step back in phone technology. So if you don't see the advantage, you've not tried it. They person in the video is going slowly so you can see exactly what they're doing.
Nice part is, it takes 30 secs to learn and you'll never go back to tapping.
@WeeWeiners Informative post. I was like this when I found out about T9 and at first it was alittle difficult, then I was faster than everyone else eventually. Now this is like the new thing, well..old I guess for some but I have iphone4
apparently as they said, once you get used to swype, you can do 50+wpm with swype, which i think is possible, but it has to be a decent size phone and enough touch sensitive unlike older touch screen phones, i think they are called something like resistance...
First im having hard time imagining how one could patent that... swipping a finger?? Its like patenting breathing of air. Second, as a programner it would take me one weekend to write a software that would do exact the same... Seriously no rocket science here. Besides we are close to control/type via brain waves.
REAL Free energy technology exists! But some very powerfull ppl don't want you and me to be free from energy costs,Get a motor that needs no gas or electric input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Free yourself!
swype is not very difficult to learn. If you don't want to use swype then you can also type on the screen keyboard. I typed this comment with swype and it took me about 45 seconds to type.
I can´t believe some idiot got the world record for fastest typing on a cell. He used swype, swype is not typing, its swyping, they call that themselves! POS product of the decade if you ask me
@ericunderscores Semantics or not, this is the only input method that absolutely requires learning writing again. You can´t just pick up swype and know it. QWERTY you can.
@Vmt16 You are doing it wrong. I picked it up and was immediately efficient and typing without looking at my screen whatsoever. The layout is the same, your fingers still know exactly where the letters are. Unless you're the last fucking idiot in the world who still needs to look at the keyboard to find the letter.......
@ericunderscores I can´t look at the keyboard while I type, I get confused if I do. Im just saying, swype is as necessary as God. No fucking need for it in other words. No need to "type" that fast. Unless you are high on meth 25/8 and the main thing is to be fast in everything. Bullshit
@Vmt16 According to you, anything fast is retarded and we should all slow down. Your argument that using Swype because its fast is incredible. Do you now understand why you sound so silly?
@ericunderscores Im not saying its retarted. Im saying its unnecessary. No need to be fast, learn to fucking type with regurlar qwerty. Do you understand why swype is so silly? It looks stupid and quite frankly is nothing revolutionary.
@Vmt16 Suuure! So why use servo-steering wheel? Learn to fucking turn that wheel yourself ffs. Oh wait, why use a car? Learn to fucking run faster ffs. You just won the retarded olympics for having a so old brain in a so young body. Cheer to you.
@fool4wd And you just won the shittiest argument award. Those things are obvius, except walking short distances. Swype is useless because nobody needs to type that fast, its crap
@Vmt16 Are you seriously telling me that an invention that makes typing faster is crap? You obviously do not know what innovation is and need to open your eyes.
@Ace1749 Yes I am, there is no need to SWYPE that fast, not unless you're on fucking meth and need to get it done so quickly. I mean, this is the only way of typing that you actually have to learn how to use. Its bullshit to the core.
@Vmt16 Why wouldn't you want to type faster? IT SAVES YOU FUCKING TIME. You obviously have a lot of fucking free time replying to all of these comments that are basically telling you that you are a retard, so time certainly is not an issue for you. It is for millions of people who need to be able to save time and input information faster. And by watching videos of Swype, it doesn't look hard at all. You would have to be a retard to not pick it up fast... oh wait.
@Ace1749 Saves your fucking time? That 2 seconds you save swyping with this crap is saving your time? You need to chill if 2 seconds really matters to you that fucking much dude.
@Vmt16 Actually if you get good at it it can be 30-40% faster than regular texting. I don't know about you but I text, surf the web, and use email on my phone, so I enter text A LOT. You obviously dont text a lot so this product doesn't concern you whatsoever, so stop trollin.
@Ace1749 I do text, surf and receive e-mails on my cell. But hey, at least Ive learned how to TYPE fast with regurlar qwerty, I don't need no shitty stupid swype.
@Vmt16 I know how to type on my phone, I have been using a standard qwerty keyboard for years now. But what is the downside of typing faster? I don't see your argument at all. It seems that you are saying "I like standard keys better than swype so swype isn't good."
@Vmt16 I don't understand your reasoning. Wanting a phone that lets you type faster makes you a rushed person who can't take the time to type on a normal keyboard? No. You are telling me that 2x+2=4 but you are not telling me why x=1.
@Ace1749 If someone buys a phone just to be able to type faster, then they are buying it for the wrong reasons. I would never buy a phone if it had swype in it, I don't feel like reading some fucking insturctions so I can type on my cell. That's bullshit.
@Vmt16 Your arguments are almost completely unreasonable. Typing faster is a bad thing? Swype is incredibly intuitive, and it's fast. If you need to send an email, it's a hell of a lot faster to swype it than it is to type on a vanilla touchscreen qwerty, with far fewer errors. Maybe you don't have a job, or don't have to send more than one text message a day; then this just doesn't apply to you. But to say something is stupid because it facilitates faster typing is just plain ignorant
@willbur1981 Just because I don't have a job doesn't mean I only send one text message a day. I just think its completely useless to swype when you have to learn to type with it, I don't feel like reading stupid instructions for typing on my cell.
@Vmt16 So what you're saying is that if you have to expend any effort to do something, it's not worth doing? It literally took me 5 minutes to skim the instructions and practice a little and now I'm completely proficient at it. You sound like you're incredibly fucking lazy.
@willbur1981 I'm not lazy, I just know that it would be a pain in the ass to learn to swype as fast as in this video. I'm just going to stick to regurlar qwerty and hope this thing sinks.
@Vmt16 I'm interested in how you know it would be a pain in the ass to learn. I've heard people say that it's simple to pick up if you're already a touch-typist, but I'm concerned there will still be some hassle adjusting. What makes the connect-the-dots method more difficult than hitting each dot separately?
@Sethumme Timing could be an issue. As you start going faster and faster, maybe swype doesn't register every swyping motion. And when you capitalize letters, you have to swype beyond the keyboard, doesn't like swyping up from z to beyond the keys perhaps cause you to write with the letters between?
@Vmt16 On top of being notably faster for me, I find swype to be fun and actually look for excuses to use it. If you don't want to use it, then don't, but don't pretend it's because it's inferior. It's pretty amazing technology actually... it's accuracy is uncanny and it's so much fun.
@Vmt16 oh, your logic is so flaved... u say u dont want to LEARN how to swype... and im guesing u were born with the intuitive knowledge how to type on a keyboard or use a qwerty on mobile? this thing looks awsome, and of course there will be bugs and errors! thats the point! we find them, we report them, they fix it! trowing somethin away just because u dont want to "learn" how to use it makes u, well, dont wanna swear.....
@Vmt16 I thought the same thing when I first did the tutorial... and then a couple days later, after seeing how everyone just loves it, I thought, "I don't want to be that person clinging onto some ancient technology..." so I tried it again in the notes app... and now I almost prefer it over typing on a regular (full size) keyboard.
@Vmt16 Hardly anybody is typing on a hardware or software keyboard on a phone without looking. Dont even try it. And why bring GOD into it, your a fucking douchebag dude.
this'll take some gettin' used to, that's for sure. But I love a challenge! I like the thought of not having to lift my thumbs as much for typing. Ohhhh yeah.
hmm they can create some complicated ass shit like this but yet they cant put flash on mobile... fuck that... isnt voice recognition faster than swiping? Like dora always says Swiper no Swiping...
I think the point is that it's for touch screen interfaces. It's not necessarily faster than a normal keyboard, it's faster than a touchscreen keyboard. Which is good, because they're usually obnoxious.
@MuscLA yea you can do a circle or do a lil zig zag scribble.... thats what i do because its faster than doing a circle. Zig zag or a lil jitter move just so Swype knows i want that letter more than once... and the word prediction should pick it up
nah this is pretty fast once you get used to it. i noticed that my typing on my regular keyboard at my desktop got a lot faster now too because im always visualizing where the next key is...
this is slower than the fuckin T9 (tested it just right now, and english is not my native language so it might have been a bit harder in this way) just as those fuckin two-finger qwerty's on blackberrys and nokias. The fastest input would be a well taught T9 instead of shiting with these but we can't forget, they got to make their profit so they need to find out newer and newer ways to buy the buyers to buy their trash...
@luthienfan that's an unfair and gross simplification and criticism.
as the video shows, swype keyboard still works with regular tap input, so when you have 2 thumbs free, you can still type as fast as you could. But when you only have 1 thumb, swype is definitely faster than typing.
it's a legitimate technology and you're shitting on them for trying. Would you prefer that they stop doing stuff like this and create lots of hello kitty phones and pikachu phones?
@ssh83 yeah why shitting on someone that give you a choice between what you had and something new... it's like here you get your old good apple or I give you the apple plus a banana just try the banana and stick to the apple if your having that much fun with it
yea i heard its supposed to come out on the omnia 2 coming out for verizon december 2, but it wont be officially launched until the end of this year for the rest of the touch screen phones, i cant F****** Wait !!!!!!!!!!! haha
i think swype looks way better than slideit, but i guess it's a matter of personal taste. i like slideits grafitti option but imho that either already is or will be implemented in swype as well. and since you cant write completely with grafitti it's a nice lil feature but not more.
slideit isnt that new either, shark by ibm later called sharpwriter has been around quite a while.
but who cares who was 1st anyway, competition is gonna bring out the best for the consumer and offers a diversity.
In fact, not only it's not new. SlideIT which I just mentioned has an option for a demo download, and a purchase option, and looks quite the same with even more options available. Google it, it looks simply awsome.
rite, now i'm gona look at it in slow motion and i'll analyse it :D your finger can't be that accurate. you'd cross too many letters and give millions of possible words....
Yeah but your finger actually stops at or around the letter that you want to "type" and since it has a built-in dictionary, it should be fairly accurate as long as you use standard English. I wonder how effective it is on slang terms that aren't in the dictionary though. My T9 may not have eg. Lockheed-Martin in the dictionary but it has "Lock", hit right, cycle through the combinations until you get "heed", get the dash and T9 certainly has Martin. Much quicker than switching to regular ABC.
exctly: stops at OR AROUND the letter. it may be easier with a stylus for those who have big bulky fingers. But still, the first versions will probably have many bugs and they will be hard to use. The idea is good, but i still think somehow handwriting recognition is an easier way to write. Especially on those PDA-s which have different sections like ABC|abc|123|.,?
The technology only has to measure where your finger starts, changes directions, and stops. This is very accurate. I've seen many demos and it's everything it claims to be. Can't wait until it comes out for the iPhone!
Who needs audio?!? Not this audience obviously!!

Not really. Voice to text is simple. The only major "technical" issue is the user.
Complex algorithms can learn people's accents, mispronunciations, etc. due to learning.

Can swype be used for words with double letters like "too" or do you need to tap?
cretv 2 years ago
You circle the letter for double letters.
MuscLA 2 years ago 13
@MuscLA yea you can do a circle or do a lil zig zag scribble.... thats what i do because its faster than doing a circle. Zig zag or a lil jitter move just so Swype knows i want that letter more than once... and the word prediction should pick it up
Intimidatorx31 1 year ago
yes all you have to do is squiggle on the letter you want to be double
vanityvideo 2 years ago
@cretv if you stay over the letter you need 2 of it will use 2. i've already done "too" and "hello:
bmxwylie 2 years ago
it can be used for double letters as well... no need to tap..
tusharmahawar 1 year ago
nah this is pretty fast once you get used to it. i noticed that my typing on my regular keyboard at my desktop got a lot faster now too because im always visualizing where the next key is...

this is slower than the fuckin T9 (tested it just right now, and english is not my native language so it might have been a bit harder in this way) just as those fuckin two-finger qwerty's on blackberrys and nokias. The fastest input would be a well taught T9 instead of shiting with these but we can't forget, they got to make their profit so they need to find out newer and newer ways to buy the buyers to buy their trash...
luthienfan 2 years ago
@luthienfan that's an unfair and gross simplification and criticism.
as the video shows, swype keyboard still works with regular tap input, so when you have 2 thumbs free, you can still type as fast as you could. But when you only have 1 thumb, swype is definitely faster than typing.
it's a legitimate technology and you're shitting on them for trying. Would you prefer that they stop doing stuff like this and create lots of hello kitty phones and pikachu phones?
ssh83 2 years ago 36
@ssh83 I would actually love a Pikachu themed phone with Swype.... Maybe a yellow HTC Leo with Pikachu ears and tail!
ManuelDr 1 year ago
@ssh83 yeah why shitting on someone that give you a choice between what you had and something new... it's like here you get your old good apple or I give you the apple plus a banana just try the banana and stick to the apple if your having that much fun with it

i think swype looks way better than slideit, but i guess it's a matter of personal taste. i like slideits grafitti option but imho that either already is or will be implemented in swype as well. and since you cant write completely with grafitti it's a nice lil feature but not more.
slideit isnt that new either, shark by ibm later called sharpwriter has been around quite a while.
but who cares who was 1st anyway, competition is gonna bring out the best for the consumer and offers a diversity.
jonny3692 3 years ago
In fact, not only it's not new. SlideIT which I just mentioned has an option for a demo download, and a purchase option, and looks quite the same with even more options available. Google it, it looks simply awsome.
saten2020 3 years ago
This technology is not so new. "Dasur - SlideIT" has the same technology.
saten2020 3 years ago
For real ! Thank you for teaching.
"Dasur - SlideIT" made in Israel.
I feel that especially long word is able to enter easily.
So,Special character is handwriting.
How do you think about handwriting?
Do you think that handwriting input means will need future interface?

It's great!!
I think that you can solve the most difficult problem.
But I wonder if I can use it by Japanese language.(I'm Japanese.)
Foreign language have various methods.
I think that it's very important problem.
Well...
I want to use it. lol
suzukiyokosuzukiyoko 3 years ago
really nice but i still going to use in my SlideIT
kailylily 3 years ago
rite, now i'm gona look at it in slow motion and i'll analyse it :D your finger can't be that accurate. you'd cross too many letters and give millions of possible words....
Theonlymac001 3 years ago
Yeah but your finger actually stops at or around the letter that you want to "type" and since it has a built-in dictionary, it should be fairly accurate as long as you use standard English. I wonder how effective it is on slang terms that aren't in the dictionary though. My T9 may not have eg. Lockheed-Martin in the dictionary but it has "Lock", hit right, cycle through the combinations until you get "heed", get the dash and T9 certainly has Martin. Much quicker than switching to regular ABC.
WiiAreDrunk 3 years ago
exctly: stops at OR AROUND the letter. it may be easier with a stylus for those who have big bulky fingers. But still, the first versions will probably have many bugs and they will be hard to use. The idea is good, but i still think somehow handwriting recognition is an easier way to write. Especially on those PDA-s which have different sections like ABC|abc|123|.,?
Theonlymac001 3 years ago
The technology only has to measure where your finger starts, changes directions, and stops. This is very accurate. I've seen many demos and it's everything it claims to be. Can't wait until it comes out for the iPhone!
musicmansuperman 3 years ago
it will probably be a program that you can install on many touchscreen phones.
