  • I like this. It's fucking great. But my favorite Progressive Metal band will always be Conception.

  • Comment removed

  • 3:38

  • Norway is the promised land of progressive metal. Circus Maximus, Communic, Pagan's Mind, Illusion Suite, Green Carnation, Ark, Conception...

  • Does anyone know if this band releases in the U.S?

  • Hey People, why compare DT and CM at all? They're both awesome, but in very different way... Anyway, I like both! :-)

  • in my honest opinion this album is far better than DT's Systematic Chaos, Black Clouds and their new A Dramatic Turn of Events. Again thats just my own opinion cause it seems that DT are trying to hard to make something else all the while bands like CM, Symphony x, Patitude and Seventh Wonder are picking up where DT has left off.....THATS GREAT FUCKING PROG METAL!!!!!

  • I think it sounds more like Symphony X then Dream Theater.

Doesn't really matter which one is better since all 3 of em are just freakin awesome.

  • nomaa ta xingoonnn kabronnnnn

  • CM will never be close to being better than Dream Theater but I still think CM is pretty good

  • Stuff fucking talking about Dream Theater. Circus Maximus is better anyway.

  • Just because a certain band comes to mind when you hear another band doesn't mean said band is a ripoff

  • I hate how people are being tards and arguing about bands instead of enjoying them.

  • Really sick band. Definitely similar to DT but it's they're no ripoffs.

  • Them compared to DT? who the fuck is this crazy person who can compare even both :S.....no seriously, i hate kids who act as if they know shit! sadly the internet is ruined by them.

Long live Circus maximus seriously...i cant wait for another new album for them! been long!

  • LOL... DT ripoff?? I don't think so.. I'm a great fan of DT and yes, they share some similarities.. And both bands have their unique touches. Pick your favourite. And dont try to make yourself look cool just because you know a little about DT or any other prog metal band.. because you're just showing how much of a douchebag you are.. There is already a lot of shitness in music, don't try to ruin the bright side of this art aswell...

  • @Baudez Similarities like... Being progressive. Hahaha, that's the only reason they're being compared. Cause the only prog metal band anyone has heard of is DT unless you're into prog. They sound SO different.

  • @InjexDnB I know D: .. Thats why I can't understand this "ripoff" thing..

  • it does sound similar to Dream Theater, wow i wonder if maybe they were inspired by them and other prog metal bands. no this couldnt be how could prog metal bands be listening to other prog metal bands and their influences. HOW COULD THIS BE??? they must be ripping them off because clearly if ur into prog metal ur not about being original, or unique, ur narrow minded and u wanna infringe copy rights. yep if you listen/play prog ur obviously narrow minded.

  • why does everyone of their songs have gay ass DT comments, cut the shit you wankers. take your shit somehwere else, preferably to a DT video or to your grave. Either one will do most people here fine. what is the point youre all trying to make??? they are better than DT anyway, get used to it and shut up

  • Why not stop to discuss the influence and enjoy their music? Everyone is mirrored in another band to create their own.

  • Jodidamente Bueno!!!

  • circus maximus is so awesome - great prog!!

  • The vocalist sounds like Kahn from Kamelot

  • @FreakshowGandhi Its Khan, or Roy Sætre Khantitat i think xD Norway <3 : D

  • @TheEternalHigh Yeah, something like that xD I'm from Norway :D Actually, I bought my bass from the bassist in Circus Maximus ^^

  • Be careful! it could burn...

  • @Vurtula The fretboard is like.. constantly on fire :D

  • @FreakshowGandhi This sounds nothing like DT you douche

  • @FreakshowGandhi HAHAHA! Right..

  • @JRufu That's just my opinion, okay? Fine, thanks

  • sweet solo

  • ...and it obveously afekted my abillity to spell. :-D

  • Okay so I had just watched this video: watch?v=O-aBYqVAYNo, and clicked on related videos of the same band, but.... it's obviously not hte same band, LOL.

  • so far from whats i've heard of this album i like the first chapter better. the 1st chapter is just more my style. More DT esque.

  • I didn't think much of the band until I heard the chorus. EPIC!

  • First time I listen this awesome song mai god, its a part of everything, has good symphonic riffs, great vocals, Im liking this band very much.

  • at the riff 2:45 I just had an orgasm.

  • Such an AWESOME band ^^

  • Gd band

  • Next album in late 2010, cant wait!

  • the very beginning sounds exactly like Dream Theater's beyond this life, still a cool song tho by a good band.

  • This is the first time that I listen to this band. They sound pretty good, remember me a little of Pagan's Mind. But still, good song.

  • Guitarplayer is God

  • Im happy that i found this band ^^ Any suggestions to other good proggressive bands?

  • Pagan's Mind

  • I like andromeda....check out chameleon carnival by them.....

  • Seventh Wonder,Anubis Gate,Redemption,Vanden Plas,Adagio,Evergrey,Cloudscape,Vanishing Point,Threshold,Dali's Dilemma,Ayreon,Spiral Architect,Ark,...

  • Angra

  • try symphony x, and dream theatre. possibly, porcupine tree, and pain of salvation

  • Yeah I know Symphony X and they are awesome!

  • This band reminds me of evergrey, key difference is vocals though.

  • @Volta4401 I don't know what's come up in 11 months so I apologize if this is nothing but old news. First and foremost, if you want great prog bands I suggest you look up Progulus, it is an internet radio station that plays only Prog Rock and Prog Metal, you'll find many great bands and knowledgable people there. Many were covered, great bands I don't see... Wolverine, Anthriel, Ride the Sky, Edenbridge, Conception, Age of Nemesis, Fates Warning, Ice Age, Venturia, ect.

  • @stiltonchees thanks man !

  • this band challenges DT is many ways. i can't choose

  • @phahq Guys... there are bands far better than DT, that represent Progressive Metal!

  • actual sweet

  • i heard an instrumental tune the other day that was pretty insane. had a totally different sound. more dt esque. not nearly impressed with this stuff.

  • what like a new album or their debut?

  • Its awesome to see a non black metal band from norway. The black metal from norway is very satanic and evil like gorgoroth for example. Anyway about this whole thing comparing CM to DT. Both bands are great. Its just that DT has more experience cuz theve been around longer in the studio while the people of CM have yet to work their way up to DT status. All in all both bands are excellent its just that DT has better musicians.

  • BOTH Gorgoroth and Circus Maximus kick ass, who cares if musical lyrics are evil and satanic? Its the music talent that counts. Hail BOTH Black Metal and Progressive Metal!

  • dude i know my friend believes that all black metal is evil and satanic im not sure if thats true or not but still awesome music is still and will always be awesome music.

  • Wait...did you just contradicted yourself there? Or did your friend wrote the comment that i replied on?

  • no my friend wrote the comment that you replied to

  • Whats wrong With black Metal? and lots of good folk metal comes from Norway too

  • i know i wasnt saying that black metal was bad. dude black metal is awesome i mainly have gorgoroth, emperor, dark throne, mayhem, and celtic frost

  • "Its awesome to see a non black metal band from norway. The black metal from norway is very satanic and evil like gorgoroth for example"

Sounds like your Saying "satanic" and "evil" black metal is bad but only a portion of black metal is "satanic" Lots of it is pagan Or SDBM Or NSBM

  • uh do you know what NSBM is?

  • No shit national socialist Black metal

  • so then why the fuck would you listen to that kind of black metal? thats just not right.

  • Because some NSBM is good? and just because someone listens to NSBM doesn't make them a nazi...

  • thats true but it just seems kind of messed up for their to be a genre called nazi black metal

  • Good Good and very good ,good voice all is so amazing high notes yeah yeah!!! go rock dow the fucking reggaeton and all go metal metal and more metal

  • watch?v=t9-ugDDv-_o

    look this band!

    Lendharian-Forbidden Thoughts

  • I don't get what all the hype surrounding this band is about. Their sound is about 75% prog, 25% power. Not SX, not DT, but then it's not overly original either, and I could probably name at least a dozen bands or so with about the same if not more talent and potential.

That being said, they do deserve a place among the prog greats; just not as much praise as I've seen them get from a lot of people.

And oh, people who think they sound a lot like DT should listen to more prog and STFU.

  • Im so over this BS. You don't have to show 100% love of DT to please fellow youtube commentators and you don't have to preach hate against them because you want to seem like a more hardcore prog fan by not seeming as mainstream. DT is cool, not my favorite though.

  • WOW this band is amazing!

  • I hate how hardcore ytsejammers thinks every band with nice hair and a keyboardist is ripping of Dream Theater!

  • @MetalDog94 I like this guys better than Dream Theater :-)

  • @MetalDog94 Well they do attribute some of their influences as Dream Theater, who cares as long as they make good music.

  • I fuckin love this song soo much<33333333

  • Amazing drum intro, amazing singer, amazing EVERYTHING. This is awesome!

  • omg 1:59, every time I hear this my mind cries abit

  • man i'm so happy i found this band

  • CM is awsome and a bit more power metal than DT. CM is more melodic and have some more power I think. But thats only my humble opinion. Cm is my favorite band in the prog/power division.

  • best song ever.

  • One of the best albums ever!

  • Comment removed

  • LOVE IT :))

  • Definetly not a copy. CM might sound a bit like "old" DT, when they had Kevin Moore. I never even thought that CM sounds like DT..

  • You have no idea how much bands hate being compared like that. Being called a "clone" or a "copy" is one of the most irritating things in the world. I personally love this band. Do they sound like Dream Theater? Yes. Many progressive metal bands DO sound similar. That does not mean they are copying each other.

  • it's funny how people always claim that progmetalbands steal stuff from DT :P

I've seen it like 10 times

  • DT took stuff from their influences anyways! They combined jazz musicians with Rush, Kansas, Yes, and the Metallica and Pantera influences.

There's nothing new under the sun!

  • Yeah, and it is the DT who actually steal material from other bands! Petrucci even openly admitted it in interview with Guitar Magazine. He said when they plan to compose new material, they sift through hundreds of cd's to see which riff they can use to expand upon...CM actually sounds refreshing to me. Not best sound by any means (bad sound production?)but it has a bit classical feel to it, almost Italian melody structure in some aspects. Skills are there.

  • I don't think they COPY riffs/parts, but they maybe listening to loads of stuff and take some influences here and there. Maybe they can take some parts and edit them, but i'm sure DT doesn't copy parts and riffs.

  • The opening acoustic solo on Best Of Times by DT is ripped off from Gary Moore.

  • thank you! I once went into their stuff methodically and I was able to find in my collection albums where I could swear DT stole some motives or even riffs from. Quite sad for a band that has so much musical talent. Hey, but while some guys become good musicians, not all become good composers (and vise versa). DT is one of many cases, only people get blinded by their technical skills.

  • And for all the people giving me a thumbs down, go listen to Gary Moore's version of The Messiah Will Come Again. THEN, go give a thumbs down to John Petrucci.

  • Circus Maximus rulez !

  • It's the same intro from Beyond This Life, from Dream Theater!

  • it sorta sounds the same ey, this songs fuckin awesome enyway

  • this!

  • At least there's an awesome chorus in this one.

  • Circus Maximus + Dream Theater = AWESOME!!

  • o ya

  • dream theater influence

  • @emilioktalmetal Not influence... These noobs actually are a bad copy of DT, they can't create their own style so they imitate DT LOL, pathetic losers.

  • @MaximumPayne12 uhhhmmmmm what is progressive metal? its heavy with technical odd times, so no one is copying anyone.

  • beter than dream theatre, more melodic and better singer, thats just the way i see it

  • Its NOT Dream Theatre! Its Dream Theater!!

  • Dream Theater < Fates Warning

  • no.

  • a turd > strade32

  • circus maximus plays with a lot of virtuosity.. however.... I believe they lack the balance needed to really make progressive metal glow.... they have moments of genius sure.... there is just something missing.. I cant put my finger on it..

  • This comment is genius . I agree completely. This band is so talented and they have so much going for them but at the same time there is this feeling of either trying to hard or just lameness to it. Cheesy I guess you could say. Which is very weird because I am impressed everytime I listen to it.

  • I am glad someone see's what I mean. your comment is equally genius.

  • Circus Maximus rocks. Best prog band around. Isolate has been on my MP3 player for couple of years, can't wait for the next record. Keep on!

  • you got it

  • This is an amazing track. One of the best i have heard in new prog bands.

  • Ownage song!!!

  • I don't know.. Maybe I'm weird.. But the vocals sound very good for me. =D They're quite different from "normal" vocals. His voice is maybe a bit thin and bright but I still like it.

  • cant stand the vocals

  • Awesome band. Much same elements in Symphony X, but I think the singer is better in Circus Maximus.

  • nah russell is better

  • Symphony X is more technical but damn the singer in Symphony X is much better :P

  • Romeo from Symphany always has a lousy tone. It's always sounds like he playing through a POD set to a shitty settting.

  • this is the insane shit

  • there is definately a science to writing pop music too Petrucci said it himself. Hooks lyrics etc; and he's a progressive fucking genius lyrical guitar master

  • You mean, he's God

  • Don't forget Dream Theater;)<3

  • what coud we say? NOOORWAY!:P<3

  • this sounds a hell of a lot like Symphony X

  • Well I like both bands =)

  • THIS IS A GREAT BAND!!

    HELT KONGE :-D

  • phenomenal singer

  • Fans + 1

  • progressive bands: Circus Maximus, Dream theater, Dream scape, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X, Flower king's <3, Kaipa, Gordian Knot or somthing, The jelly Jam, Opeth ++ ..

  • don't forget Kamelot ^^

  • Kamelot ftw

  • I like them but especially their voices and choral stuff!

    Thumbs up!

  • Wow, pretty good :o But sadly, abit too much technical for me

  • :p lol

  • Actually it's not that ridiculous of a comment. Music that is "too technical" remains more or less "underground" because the majority of people enjoy listening to simpler-sounding music (pop music being basically as simple as it gets). There are good bands in both categories, but whether you enjoy technical/simple music is entirely up to the listener.

  • that is 100% a fantastic comment.

    Dream theater ftw :D

  • I know a genre easier than pop music, its called (c)rap. Pop singers atleast sing, rappers don't sing at all, just speak through a computer sounding vocodor.

  • I'm a fan now. I must go buy this album.

  • I know exactly what you mean, I absolutely love bands like this. Most new bands aren't doing it for the art anymore, it's more of a fad now. Thats why hardcore, emo, even most alternative/mainstream bands all sound the same.

  • I love the way they modulate the song between the verse and the chorus...transitions from major to minor can sometimes seem akward or forced...these guys do it really well. I just wish they'd change up the riff or the melody at the beginning of this song. It gets a tad boring

  • Anyone can tell me some name of prog bands (not really known) like this or Dreamscape?

  • if u r on UG, use the progressive metal thread on there :D

if not, go to UG and just look at the bands :D

  • Oooook thanks!

  • np :D

  • i just found this band trying to find info on the circus maximus for a report

  • What a way to discover them! I discovered them when I was looking at the "Progressive metal" page on Wikipedia! :) CM FTW!

  • this music is very high in talent/skill. There's too much technicality involved that a lot of people just cant hear because they just don't have the ears for it. Majority of popular stuff is simple because majority of people have simple minds.

  • I heard it, I heard it. Do I get a cookie?

  • No, it's just that people look for different things in music, and relate and react differently to individual forms of music. It's called taste.

  • or life style

  • You are 105% correct, or maybe even more.

  • This is so fucking good ... I'm speachless really, can't even describe in words how good this is ... Been listening to this song atleast 15 times today for sure.

  • your right mate

In this music there is everything GREAT..

  • More people should know of this band : |

Both of their CD's are awesome , waiting for the third : )

  • What an amazing guitar solo.

  • Such a gorgeous song. :-)

  • his high vocals are the best part of this band man.

  • singer reminds me of Kamelot

  • Well, Dwarf, you've just addicted me to 4 bands I'll have to buy CDs for now!!

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY FOR YOURSELF ????!!!!!

    tee hee

    Thanks

  • What bands? :)

  • oh my god why do bands so often get killed by their singers?

  • You can't mistake Dream Theater either. Dream Theater are better musicians. But, it is a different genre as well a bit, since this has to do with Power Metal, DT is the technical aspect of Progressive Metal.
