my first time on stage,we opened with"nuclear apathy" and finished with this song.the crowd loved it! I1m pretty sure they had never heard Crack the Sky which made it even better.
Trashed on Desoxyn, winter of 75 in New Orleans, quickly dying in a weekly rate flop house called Happy Jack's (still there) on Decatur, across the street from the sicking smell of hot oil and burnt sugars clinging to the pavement of the powered bombs served at the infamous cafe and yet able to rise up off the sticky street and reach to the gallery (balcony), I lean on the railing, the iron being the only cool object in the crushing wet air that I breath...and I hear this song. 36 years later..
@TheDawndavis I seen them in the late 70's and mid 90's at various venues. Did you live in the Hamilton / Gardenville area? our name Dawn Davis rings a bell. Did you attend Frankford Elementary or Northeast Middle?
Seen these guys in '75, oh, and by the way, IYAMNI, thanks for the mention of Captain Beyond, great band, especially for the "right frame of the mind" time!
Im saded and happy to see these guys get so much attention now, I love crack the sky sincei was young, it wasnt until i went to college and found out my MIDI/Audio Editing professor was Glenn Workman the keyboardist for crack the sky, and what a great guy, too bad they are way past their time and wont get the recignition they deserve
@7720277 Yeah...they sure were...my Dad owned the Palace with his partner at the time....pretty cool time then..I was just a punk kid..but I remember....man do I.
.I saw Crack the Sky steal the show opening for Supertramp in1977 here in Memphis. Ended their set with William Tell Overture. Also covered I Am The Walrus during their 45 mins on stage.
Thanks For all the CRACK The SKY..... Ever Since i've Moved From Philly,PA.... NO CRACK the SKY..... But I've just Bought lotta Compilations...... Peace Out From Mpls,MN .... A Philly Pa NATIVE!
lol..... young people!..... thanks dude... i'm 48 ... if thats young... YEAH!.... but yea.... crack the sky is so unique in there music.... there clever,brilliant.... wish i had the chance to witness LIVE!!!
You're only as young as you feel. Apparently not as old as you post on your channel though:-) So you're just a few years younger than me so that makes you close to being an old fart! I saw them many times back in the day. They were every bit as awesome as their records would indicate!
Peace out brother.....As we are into the great music experiences..... THE SPECTRUM/Philly,PA had some of the nations finest concerts.... Growing up in Bucks County... in 70s-80s.... There were TONS of bands to flow through philly, I also remember ROBERT HAZZARD ,Escalalator of life.... and few other tri-state area bands. the A's,Horslips, blockhouse,to name a few.... BANDS that I highly recommend.ROBIN TROWER/HAWKWIND/Mahogany Rush/to name a few...... Peace out dude! off 2 work. 2:19am-noon...
I honestly love the political messages in this band's music. At the time there were a slew of softer bands than them, but they also were not the most aggressive band around. They fell in the middle somewhere, and were never appreciated as they should have been. I feel the same is true for Nevermore these days.
Holy Shit! We were just talking about Crack the Sky on a Rush Blog and then find this!! Woo hoo-what a treasure. I followed these guys after they broke up in the 80's and became No More Heroes without Palumbo. Not as good but was still a treat. Rock on and thanks for the post!
Thank you so much for posting this. I actually saw them perform this song at a place in Youngstown Ohio called the Tomorrow Club. They were opening up for Ronny Montrose. One of the best bands from NE Ohio western PA that not many have heard of. Thanx again.
You're welcome. I've also posted "She's A Dancer". We would go see these guys every time they played here locally(which was a lot) in Maryland. They truly kick ass! Check out the live posts of this and other CTS greats at the 1998 Alpha concert.
@rickyon My sisters and I grew up in Owings Mills, MD and while I wasn't old enough to attend :( they came away absolutely floored by them when they played venues such as the Meriweather Post Pavillion. They loved the ruthlessly tight arrangements supported by positively blazing playing, and I still do as well.
Funny how a band who kicks 99% of the bands in the world's butts has only roughly 19,000 listens...

Yes, his name is A.D. Adams and you can find him on Facebook. Still singing, playing drums and teaching both out in Arizona I believe.
