There are so many stupid gimmicks in this performance, I almost puked. Why not just sing the usual, traditional way, without the "dancing", maraccas and the kites? I don't get it, it's way too commercialized and calls too much attention to the singers themselves, not the music. This arrangement is pure garbage!!!
A really tight choir, but I feel this song has lost the soul from the original. I think this type of music needs a bit of an edge... didn't really work for me. But very good work!
There is no denying that you are AMAZING singers and performers. But... this song is too stiff - it has so much soul, movement. And in such a way (at least for me) it sounds just too... polite, immobile? In no way I want to insult you though, as I said, this is a TERRIFIC choir!
Absolutely amazing voices! The rain sticks add such a beautiful effect and I love the kites at the sides of the stage! I would have loved to see this in real life! Beautiful job!
@pcbrown44 Thank you for viewing and commenting! We're glad you enjoyed our video. The people in the front row aren't "false" or plants. We had a local high school Madrigal choir join us on this particular concert for a few pieces and they sat in the front rows so as to have easy access to the stage and still be able to watch the rest of the concert. You have a keen eye though! We are able to mostly fill the house anyway, but the front row is usually the last to fill.
Great performance, but I prefer a more powerful delivery - that's maybe because the first choral version of Circle of Life that I ever saw was from the Philippine Madrigal Singers and that choir is something of a sonic beast.
This is the best choir i've heard that performs this song that well. I have to give mad props to University of Utah Singers for their outstanding performance!!
I can do nothing but smile during this, and by the end I am almost laughing. My choir could never do this because they sing without any emotion (even though we travel around the US and win everything). This, on the contrary, is flawless!
@cheericeify FYI I actually love Disney, and this choir. I was making fun of the 8 dislikes on the page. Not making fun of it. Read before you start to insult other peoples comments.
It's quite good, but it feels overrehearsed. It lacks passion and real joy. It doesn't have any spirit, though it is technically near perfection. Music needs soul and this just doesn't have it.
I normally don't like this sort of thing, but oh my gosh. This is amazing. Thanks for changing my opinion. This is wonderful. I listened to absolutely every second. :)
i like how most people judge arrangements of songs on how many runs or splits there are in it, or how high the 1st soprano goes or how low the bass goes. songs are supposed to convey the message of the original message without saying a word. i think this arrangement does just that
@QueenWebster how exactly is this the worst arrangement ever? This is a very good arrangement especially compared to some of the arrangements of disney songs out there. The vertical alignment of the chords were very well thought out, as well as the different way to arrangement of each verse allows a good change of pace from verse to verse.
I think Madz's version is more complex and needs a lot of vocal strength... This version is good as well but it's more of like the song was just given a chorale arrangement. It failed to capture the feel of a jungle song.
here is the UST singers version. the song is recorded using a cellphone recorder so the recording is not as fine as the UofU's version. they are also sining inside a church where bounces off the walls. the UST singers mixes western and african styles of singing.
i urge everyone to listen to the rendition by the UST (university of santo tomas) singers of the philippines and I guess you will understand what MonzaMan08 is saying about the U of U's rendition of the song. :-) by the way, the arranger of this piece is the conductor of the UST singers.
This song was absolutely wonderful!! I loved at and I'm going to tell my chorus teacher about it and ask her if we can do it!! Although u guys couldve gotten a little more loose with the pitches and rhythm, it was overall very good, kudos!!! :)
When I first the song title I was going to blow by this one. So glad I watched it. It was fabulous. Love the soloists too. Wish the thinner guy would have put the mic up to his mouth more though.
I'd sit here all night, but it'll only let me click "Like" once... This was truely amazing, and ROCKED HARDCORE!!! And anyone who didn't cry when Simba's dad died, has no soul.
@belovedagave So Mr. or Mrs. authority on what is white and what is... well... not white. Explain why this is "white?" I doubt you can articulate what it is exactly that they are doing so "white."
@MonzaMan08 i'll answer in place of belovedgave. the rhythms are too carefully articulated. they don't groove, either -- they just tear through. the choir doesn't have the same richness in overtones. the soprano section, in particular, has a very white timbre. they also don't play with the pitch very much; just right on each note without any sliding. and the diction is as carefully articulated as the rhythm. they're at least clapping on the offbeat -- i'll give them that.
@bmh4d0k3n I don't think you got it. It is absolutely ridiculous to define a choir's or a singer's sound by the color of their skin or by the skin color they sound like not to mention that is a gross generalization about race. In a country that is constantly bombarded with this kind of segregated thought I think it is ridiculous and divisive to make these judgements. The variety of sounds and interpretations is what should really be praised. It is what it is! Great .
@MonzaMan08 well, there are cultural factors at play. there IS an african-american choral tradition that has certain stylistic elements, just as the european classical tradition does. it's a good performance, but it's a demonstrably european-derived sound and manner. not they should "act black" or something, but there IS a white sound. oh well, i'm fighting a losing battle on a page full of fans of the video. i guess i'll let you enjoy this blandness in peace.
@bmh4d0k3n i agree with your comments. you should listen to the original rendition by the university of santo tomas singers from the philippines. their rendition is different.
@bmh4d0k3n@MonzaMan08 maybe it's wrong to classify the sound as white. maybe that is why the people here are offended by your comment. let us just say they are using bel canto singing which is not that apt for an african inspired song. :-)
super clear video! nice!! :) We performed this song in the Philippines too. very memorable choir competition in the University of Santo Tomas. and the official choir of that university recently won the "Choir of the World" title a few months ago. :)
@jhash24 originally ARRANGED by Prof. Fidel Calalang, Jr. of the UST singers. Elton John won't be very happy if you don't credit him as the composer. hahaha.
This version of Circle of Life is Cute. :) Very cute. :) And the performance. But I think I like more the arrangement of Ms. Anna OF Phil. Madrigal Singers because of complexity. :)
What an amazing choir and a wonderful arrangement. Is this a published arrangement and if so, could you provide any details. I would love to perform this with my choir.
The song/arrangement, choir & concert hall are so memorable to me. We (UST pPharmacy Glee Club) premiered this wonderful arrangement of Prof Fidel Calalang Jr. of the UST Singers from Manila. We won the competition & this was the contest piece. This choir is a very good friend of the UST Singers and Brady Allred is my idol.
