  • The old Foot ball stadium should be torn down to make a semi footbal hockey stadium with a giant car parking building with it.

  • honestly this looks bad! Appreciate the effort Gene Dub but it is ugly.

We are not only pulling revenue from hockey fans and all venues surrounding this but opportunity to welcome tourists with awe and hold open air concerts if retracting roof is considered. Concerts regardless. Applications for future sporting events to the province must be considered as well. Winter games, common wealth games, olympic etc. back to the drawing board and I would like to see this become a contest of design.

  • looks terrible....the oilers need a 22 000 seater that is just a monster to bring in rev

  • I agree

  • what the hell is this? A giant noodle bowl, or maybe a picnic basket? Be better suited to be built in china town . At least people wouldnt' look at it and say..."why the hell is here this huge noodle bowl in the ...oh yeah thats the arena. Never mind my bad"

  • the saddledome is truly homo...you cant even see the full rink from some parts of the arena w/ out the help of a screen! leave that for the broke back FLAMERS that they are!!!!

  • i think this arena regardless of its final structural design will rejuvinate the downtown core for sure ... i like the idea of the towers in front...the design itself is ok not something you see to often, if they do follow through with this design itll be something that will grow on edmontonians!!! "YOUR IN OIL COUNTRY" SCREW THEM the flames and there flaming saddledome

  • I really really don't like the look of those support beams. Sometimes it can be okay.... But I don't think thats what this city needs. Maybe more glass+metal?

  • I lived in Calgary. It has to have the ugliest and most unnatural colour of brick ever imagined on its buildings. Just the thought of it gives me nightmares. The rest of the town is a wasteland of cookie cutter houses and big box stores that extend forever on a lifeless plain devoid of trees. The only thing Calgary has over a place like Saskatchewan is smaller insects and more money. At best its a tribute to Ontarian suburbia. Its certainly not a cosmopolitan city like Vancouver or Montreal.

  • The only thing cosmopolitan about Vancouver is the cultural mix. Trust me outside of that Edmonton is more cosmopolitan. Festivals go un-attended, theatre has only a small following. Have you seen the East side of Vancouver, it's kind of slummy. Now Montreal on the other hand, IS a cosmopolitan city.

  • I was actually bashing Calgary, not Edmonton, but if you're seriously argueing that Edmonton is more cosmo than Vancouver you're probably just homesick and on crack. I'm not exactly sure what festivals you're referring to but I don't think it really matters. There are ten times as many things to do in Vancouver than Edmonton and a million more opportunities in terms of local excursions. I agree Vancouver is not as hip as Montreal, but there are many other natural wonders that make up for it.

  • I'm well aware you were bashing Calgary. However I have lived in all three cities and I would say aside from Vancouver's natural beauty it has little if anything over the other two. Vancouver has natural beauty, but that

  • certainly doesn't make it cosmopolitan. Beautiful yes, more cosmopolitan, a definite no. and more things to do well, yes free things. Walking along the ocean, hiking etc. But as for attendance to cultural events it's no better and in many ways not as evolved. We'll just have to disagree I guess. But that's my opinion. I live here because i like the natural beauty. However I do go back to both Calgary and Edmonton to take in a number of their big events.

  • I also attend many of the events that go on here, many of which just don't do as well as elsewhere.

  • Call me crazy, but I think it's kind of cool.

How did you get your hands on this video, feepa?

    -Jerry

  • im glad it looks like a toilet bowl, cuz when opposing teams come into the barn they'll literally get shit on and flushed out.

  • take it easy. gettin ahead of yerself there asshole. I think its a pretty bold design, with the new art museum being created downtown I know edmonton is looking for more edgier and modern design concepts and this would be a founding piece to the revitalization and reworked image of the city core. I think this would look pretty sweet, but thats just me. I'm sick n tired of goin to the old barn located right in the middle of the biggest eyesore in town that is 118.

  • Hey man, just trying to acclimate you guys to the obvious coming criticism. This will be a huge mistake.

It literally looks like a toiletbowl.

    Edmonton can obviously do better.

  • yeah, i agree with you. its a post modern design that dosnt look too bad, i dont see how people can not like it, it has a great architectural flow and a damn good use of space

  • Seriously though: with that colour and shape will people actually refer to that arena as anything but the honey-bucket? What an eye-sore.
