Bob told me this section was intended for Niagara Digressions but was edited out. Understandably. This piece is much more poetic and intense. It is extremely strong writing and Baxter's delivery here is very impressive. I've been close to Baxter since I was a child in Niagara Falls New York. His voice is one of the strongest I've known.
This is not an excerpt from a novel, but from Bob’s innovative nonfiction, and I suspect, about to be published "Niagara Digressions." A book, I’m told, of heavy, weighty, substantial stuff – nothing frivolous or whimsical. I’ve known Bob for 46 years, my last 16 years have been spent in Missouri and points south in Cajun country, but we have stayed in touch, and I can recognize bits and pieces and threads of Niagara Falls in this - so hook up the mule, the wagon is loaded for another round!
Actually, Bob says it was originally intended for the book, but got cut.
