When nature gets in the blood costs fly out the window. What would you give for that one "perfect" shot of that one "perfect" bird/species? History, including wildlife images before the invention of the camera has passed now, unrecorded in true colour. Two, three, five hundred years from now, that one "perfect" shot taken today, may allow others in the future to see what we had living all around us. What would you not give to have taken that one "perfect" shot? From Wales.
I got my induro today and the 393 some time this week. Could you tell me what kind of head you have on your induro or does the 393 come with a swivel head on it. Also, would have a part number on the dove tail. I can't find it. Thanks for your help.
@quantrilway The 393 will come ready to mount on the tripod. Nothing else needed. Also, the item code for the dovetail at Really Right Stuff dovetail is item code FB-A.
Thanks for getting back to me about the flash. What kind of flash cord do you have and how does it attach to your flash bracket. Also you were saying that you have dove tale bracket , does that come with the 393. Looking foward to see more pictures. THANKS
@quantrilway You can use a Canon or generic flashcord. It attaches by a thumscrew on the bottom of the flash cord, just screw it to the bracket. All flash cords should have this. I bought the dovetail bracket from RRS.
thanks much for all your great vids. Just one question. Can you please tell me where you got the flash magnifier(extender). Thanks again, Rudy in North Carolina
Thanks for that fast reply. I am just about to get my 500 f4 and have to decide on this very factor. I think the Wimberley is over-priced. Really. I was shown the Induro GHB2 today (still, $500 for it), and wondered if anyone made something just as firm and moveable, yet in the $300 range. Voila, your video. Very informative, and your work backs it up. Great sharing! Thank you.
@SeerTrulth Yeah, I have a lot of expensive stuff, but feel it's worth it. However, $650 for a tripod head is a joke in my opinion. Have you looked at Jobu design? They are about $150 cheaper for the heavy duty Black Widow, still expensive though. One note- I did break the quick release thumb screw in the field one time. It was a pain. Order a couple replacements at about $10 a piece to keep in your bag. They can be replaced with no tools required! (It shouldn't break unless you over tighten.)
Great work and nice, informative video. I am wondering if this bracket is truly vibration-free like some of the more expensive gimbal systems? That can make a big difference in the very, very fine shots (possibly not the kind of stability achieveable on a kayak?).
@SeerTrulth I'm not sure if this answers your question or not, but in part 2 of one of our Santee videos, I shoot a Barred Owl in low light at 1/250sec, tack sharp. But kayak shooting is more concerned with undulation than vibration. I've never had any issues shooting from platforms....etc with it.
Interesting. I use the Wimberley with my 1D Mark IV and 500 f4 and like it a lot. This head looks like a good deal if it supports birds in flight type panning, etc... What kind of flash bracket if that? I presently don't use a flash for with my 500 but am thinking of getting a Better Beamer and using a Really Right Stuff bracket which I hear is very good,
someone explain to me why people buy such huge lenses? cause honestly you can get a mirror lens for like 40 times less, and a ton of less weight? OK i understand the Bokeh is weird but honestly unless your a pro and your making thousands off your pictures... y would that matter??? And im not saying its stupid for anyone to buy a huge lens like this... its really a personal choice, but come on be for you invest 5K in a lens, look at you options
@Zcuces You're right, it is a personal choice. But I wouldn't get sharpness, autofocus, or bokeh with a mirror lens. Basically, I wouldn't see much point in putting all that effort in a one of my all day kayak trips if I had bad gear which yielded bad results. The 500mm payed back $450 with the contest I won, also I sell some prints. It's not as if I care, but it will pay itself off over time. And if you can afford the good stuff, then go for it. Just my take.
@Zcuces Mirror lenses usually have small starting apertures like 5.6 plus they have ugly "donut" bokeh, which is actually good enough reasons to get a non-mirror lens like this.
Neat video. However, if you need more downward movement try using the 393 in hanger style rather than the cradle style you show in your video. Examples on my website if you are unsure. Works fine.
Actually I have been emailing with them and they told me the double dove tail will not even work with the manfrotto (haha, I should send them your way). So well see.
At about 1:00, I said that I have a RRS Dovetail flash bracket adapter. I don't think I said that the bracket itself is RRS. It's a Jobu Design bracket.
Devil is in the details! Lol! You did say that. Sorry my mistake. Thanks! I have the manfrotto and was wondering how I could get a flash bracket on it. Which jobu bracket is that? Again thanks and sorry.
Double flash looks like a possible. Once I have the 393 here and put together I will see. I plan to paint everything camo, so may even make something to hold the mic. Thanks.
Question, I have the Canon 5D Mark ii, since the 5D shoots video, I bought a Rode Stereo VideoMic. So now I need a bracket to hold the mic and one for flash. Mic doesn't need a hot shoe, so any flash type bracket. Since you have your set you can look at it and see if a second Jobu bracket could go on it. someplace. Thanks
Many thanks for this Jaydeep just thinking of getting one this helps me a lot with my decision

@jaydeeprm The RRS Dovetail is item code FB-A on their website. I can't include any pictures since I've upgrade to an Unduro Gimbal head. Sorry.

Wait wait wait... you're taking THAT setup in a freakin' KAYAK?? You're insane! Or have a hell of a lot of disposable income.

I think RRS sent the screw for the dovetail adapter. If not, I had some left over RRS screws that I used.
