i tried to freeze the view and save the texture in a psd-file to paint my model like you did it in 4:20. but when i open the file in photoshop there's only a grey layer. i can't see my model... what's wrong?? please help me >.<
I'm making a 3D earth in space. I'm trying to create the blue atmospheric GLOW that goes around the earth. Problem is, I only want the glow to only be visible on the sunny side of the earth. I've looked on the forums and this seems to be a common problem. Can you help?
@sr48hx Learn some rendering man, there should be some kind of glow map or something for sure, every app which allows rendering will have that.. a grayscale image which will tell your renderer what parts to glow and what parts not to glow.. This way you can fake and get what you are interested to get
@timjamespettigrew You can do that very easy, just switch Bodypaint's layout to modeling, select the desired poly faces, hide the rest of the faces, go back to texturing layout and texture them !
You can paint bump and see realtime results, but normal maps you can't see in realtime, nor displacement. For that you need a sculpting app. BP is a texturing tool only (it includes modeling stuff from CINEMA 4D, but not sculpting tools). What you'll find though is that although some sculpting apps can do some painting of textures, the tools aren't as advanced as BP 3D. In an ideal world you'd own both BP and a sculpting app. It depends whether textures or modelling is more important to you...
@MaxonC4D Maxon, painting on displacement or at least a displacement reference (what we'd call the "cavity map" exported from Zbrush) would be an obvious advantage. I would do two things: first, official Maxon tutorials on how to use Zbrush together with Bodypaint, and use the cavity map exported from Zbrush to "almost paint on the displacement". Second, thinking about a sculpting solution in the Cinema/Bodypaint world. What Zbrush misses in painting is layers with blending modes, an essential
wow amazing! pls more tutorials about high res BodyPaint tutorials like the reptil. Can you mabe make a tut where you texture a whole model e.g. like the hulk in Hulk or other film projects?
veeeery nice video :D i've searched all the web for a tutorial for this.. please can you explain me what you did in 2:00 minute :)?how did you made the image appear on the object ;)?
@patrykponichtera I was searching for the same thing. He just copy and paste those projections! Just go to the texture tab, load a new texture and paste it in the angle you want :)
jesus christ look at you poor saps unwrapping your UVs manually, I push one button and the UV is unwrapped instantly. I love bodypaint. If it were a woman I would marry it.
Depends on your texture work really and what you use in PS. Some people will only use BP3D and some will combine it with PS. Really cool is you can set up BP's layers to be PS layers, so at any point you can jump into PS if you want. BP3D also supports a lot of PS things such as filters, mixing modes and .abr brushes. The one other thing that's cool about BP3D is if you use a tablet it feels the same as PS does when you paint and you can tweak your tablet settings too. :)
anyways it allready worked man. the problem is that when you pass the texture to photoshop be sure tu use the PP Layer only. I you create other layer merge them into one layer and name that layer "PP Layer" or the merge function wont work.
Not quite right. BodyPaint 3D and CINEMA 4D since R10 are the same thing except the startup. So if you buy C4D you get BP3D built in and if you buy BP3D you get C4D :-D

just a quick question, is it possible to only paint on selected polys? Rather than the project image, erase unwanted workflow.
(i have been using seperate layers to help me in this process, but still wish i could select polys/elements to paint on)

body paint is a mans 3d tool!
One click UV unwrapping!
What else do you want people?!?!

LOL! That's prob my fave comment to these vids. Glad you like the app!
MaxonC4D 2 years ago 6
late reply, but
then you could say a real man does manual unwrapping. ;)
manual is still best for good uv layouts
ipodsucksballs 1 year ago
so youre telling bodypaint is way better ten ps?
hmm wortk trying, and it doesnt need uv mapping... that sounds cool

merge function is not working for me :( did everything right but when i try to merge it the texture does not come to C4D.

This is body paint not C4D
overlordgamer 3 years ago
bodypaint is part of C4D bro.

bodypaint is an OPTIONAL plugin for C4D AND a standalone software.
