I used to have a black gerbil and a tan one too, but they passed away :'( I have actually have had 3 gerbils and 1 hamster. All died for different reasons. My first one broke her neck because she was chewing on her wheel and got it stuck. The second one got really sick and the night before we took her to the vet she died, her eyes got all red and crusty then they shut and wouldnt open. The third one was just from old age. Then the hamster died because he was in a car accident with my sister. :(
