  • Im really upset to find out it was just a fake.

  • I just love the music. Anyone got any info about it?

  • I was convinced it was real, and when the teacher told us it was all a lie I didn't believe her!

  • They played it straight on TV and it was brilliant - it takes less than ten minutes to figure it out but it's more enjoyable after that. Peter Jackson for head of TVNZ.

  • This film is so clever.

  • stop arguing like cliche internet girls.

i have a copy of this film in case anyone is interested....

  • Ahhh the magic of PJ and CB...love your work guys. I remember watching this on TV in Australia and going...WTF!!!! Thinking it was real... You had all the Aussie media fooled as well...brilliant!

  • wow, that is amazingly sad.

  • such a clever film.. now i have to do a 2 500 word essay on it.. kinda ruins it haha

  • Ah that's a terrible attitude to have. The idea of a fake documentary is to play around with the audience's expectations of the form. When this was first broadcast in NZ , it was promoted it as a genuine documentary. The response was huge, people were calling for a colin mckenzie statue to be erected, books to be written etc. Then Jackson and his team revealed the truth and the entire nation was embarrassed for having fallen for it. That's the point: just to see if they can get away with it.

  • Can I please point out that Forgotten Silver looks a HELL of a lot better than this extremely crappy compressed and unauthorised clip might indicate. USA edition DVDs are available via Amazon. The European PAL edition is no longer available except second hand. However, I am preparing a high quality remastered version from original negs, which will hopefully be available sometime next year.

Costa Botes (co-writer and co-director of Forgotten Silver)

  • ok, you might be right about the quality, this is the highest i can upload and even if there is a higher quality option i will not upload it because it is a preview and it is what it meant to be, i have the original DVD and i know what it means to watch a movie in SD or HD instead of watching the lower quality on you tube..

happy to hear that there will be a new version for this film.. good luck!

  • @LPFTWCS 2 years later, where is it mate?

  • What you don't really grasp is that Peter is from a country which there is not alot of money to go around for film, what he managed to do on his films prior to LOTR is nearly unheard of in NZ, Budgets like what LOTR had simply allow him to express what he really wants to see... everything else before hand is comprimise to get the film out... What's more important? producing work? or only producing work when the money is good enough?

  • I read about this and now I really want to see the whole thing!

  • thank you for posting this...it's stuff of legend!!!!!

  • Thanks.

  • yes... who can get me a full copy of this piece of art

  • When we heard that it's a mockumentary, everyone was like, What the HELL!!!!!!! My teacher was like, I swear, I should've taken a camera to shoot all your expressions, cos it was so real (and funny). -.-" I'm so irritated by the film, but I must say that this was very well done. =) The film was shot so realistically that the audience just accepts anything that is thrown to them, no matter whether it seemed true or not. (Sorry for the looooong eassy above) =)

  • OMG!!! My teacher first showed it to our whole class, everyone was soooo engaged in the movie and we were all like "ooh..ahh". Everyone's expressions were so serious and we took everything to be true, even when the facts are a little unbelievable. Such as the 2000 dozen eggs (where's he goin to hide all those?) and the building of the Roman castle in 3 yrs and the mickey mouse tie the professor person wore (I mean, who would wear a mickey mouse tie to an interview).

  • The guy with the Mickey Mouse tie is a rather famous film historian, Leonard Maltin. He used to host segments on Entertainment Tonight and always had a Mickey tie or pin. Though it may seem funny, it is very appropriate for him.

  • Lol i can't believe i actually believed it when i first saw it... that scene is so real.

  • In the whole movie I had to laugh so hard when he stole the 2000 dozens of eggs!

    loving this fake documentary!

  • That's pretty amazing.

  • You do understand that this guy Colin Mackenzie never existed, right? They just made up his name and made a "mockumentary"

  • Yeah man! Thomas Robins totally rocked the roleof Colin! Hear that T! I'm pluggin ya name bro!
