  • My favorite Christmas movie.

  • This is undeniably one of the best, if not the BEST, movie monologue ever to embrace our screen

  • What a powerful performance by one of the greatest, classic Hollywood Actresses! This makes me want to see this movie all the more!

  • This is my favorite scene from this movie. The dialog between Henry and Eleanor was absolutely brilliant. I love seeing a young Anthony Hopkins in this film as well.

  • This breaks my heart every time I watch it.

  • One of the best monologues ever, and one of the best performances ever on screen.

  • This is one of my all time favorite film scenes, ever. She is just stunning, and the dialogue is exquisite.

  • I had no idea that Brits during the Dark Ages spoke with New England accents. It's amazing they could have such great foresight.

  • @KilldozerRocks 1/

to expect accuracy in accents in any movie is ridiculous and ppl who commet on them display limited minds that miss forest for trees. works of art don't fall bc of such details.

    2/

anyway, this family would have spoken a dead dialect of french ( as did several generations of so called 'english' royals). as such ms. hepburn's accent is good as any other as far as it matters at all.

  • @hammertapping Or you could playfully joke about unimportant nuances in otherwise great films and not have uptight jerks who think that you're criticizing the movie go ultra-defensive and act like it's their job to lash out at anyone who dares to notice tiniest and most insignificant bit of unintended humor.

  • @KilldozerRocks oh boy! so you are a joker!

an angry joker! a joker who thinks he is not ridiculous!

    lol

'come for me'! 'boy' ! again! bc its fun to poke jokers who think they are not ridiculous and gets angry when called limited for posting silly a comment about hepburn's accent..

  • @hammertapping I'd rather not, I'm busy watching Bringing Up Baby.

  • @KilldozerRocks good choice! if you can think, run from where i am! otherwise you will land on your hat.

  • @KilldozerRocks Its called poetic license and certainly doesn't affect the magnificent performances. I fancy Henry and Eleanor would have liked these portrayals of themselves (if not totally agree).

  • @windstorm1000 It's a joke. It's not a criticism. I love Katharine Hepburn, and I love this movie. It's just a slightly amusing note of Old Hollywood that you could get away with that, as well as the fact that Hepburn could never change her voice.

  • What a desolation... and what an actress. How superb a lady!

  • gad is she superb.

  • All I can say is ...wow...

  • Had this film been made twenty years earlier, Olivier could have played Henry and either Joan Fontaine or Judith Anderson could have played Eleanor. Then, this could have been called "Lion in De Winter" haha. Bad joke, couldn't resist.

  • AH,,,,, Ugly to keep beauty intact, with Family and the Holiday's so near.

  • It doesn't get better than this.

  • Perhaps my favorite performance by an actor/actress. If Streep equalled it, it was in Doubt. If Hopkins did, was in Remains of the Day. If Nicholson did, was in About Schmidt, and otherwise, Nicholson's really about a good time watching Nicholson, just like Peter O'Toole was about a good time watching Peter O'Toole. We like something about their life forces.

  • BACKSTORY....Anthony Harvey said Kate WOULD NOT do this scene with her hair down....He pleaded with her...and she did it anyway...AND was not happy doing his way....BUT later on that night...the cast and crew were staying at this castle they were filming at...Harvey saw a note being passed underneath his door to his bedroom....IT was from Katharine...and it said...You were right.

  • Katharine was amazing actress and she was still really pretty at that time.

  • John Barry score is perfect here.

  • bravisssssssimo! mejor actriz de la historia *_* grande hepburn

  • Yep, this was a VERY good movie with some great acting and dialogue.

  • This entire movie sets the bar. Breathtaking performances from Hepburn and O'Toole and ably assisted by a terrific supporting cast. That O'Toole never won an Oscar for this is a travesty.

  • Cliff Robertson won that year, and he deserved it.

  • @CharmingSage Yes. O Toole should have won for Lion in Winter and The Ruling Class

  • @december2364

tht otoole never won one for his 8 nominations is just terrible

hes definately on the top 10 actors of all time

  • "I'd hang you from the nipples, but you'd shock the children." =)

  • God she was beautiful in this scene it the whole movie really

sutch a wonderful actress ..the only scene better than thins one was the scene werwe she talks about sleeping with henerys father

  • Another fabulous performance for the grand dame of American actors. She won her third oscar for best actress out of four. Made history in 1968, a tie with Barbra Streisand's FUNNY GIRL performance.

  • A great monologue

  • I love everything about Kate: her voice, her face, her mannerisms. And this film is simply perfect. Kate and Peter made quite a pair.

  • Kate you' re absolutely stunning! I love you and i adore you...your voice, your hair...i love you...what a great teacher you are!!! Keep on shining...now and forever you're a star in the sky...God bless you and your beloved Spencer!

  • This is just after the scene in the wedding chapel, where she masochistically asks her husband to kiss his mistress in front of her and then looks on in horror as they perform a mock marriage ceremony. Classic!

  • awesome. i just watched this scene for the first time and i had to come straight to YouTube to see if it was on here and therefore as memorable as i hoped. what a tremendous actress with tremendous material. and that score--it's perfect.

  • I love her with her hair down. It makes her look 20 years younger, I wish she would have done more pictures with it down.

  • acting at its finest. incomparable & irreplaceable. an actor's benchmark.

  • She is an amazing actress but she was born in 1907, thus 61 years of age. Despite that she looks good.

  • Can I say that Katharine Hepburn looks very sexy with her hair down!!!

  • i kno shes 68 here too not a wrinkle on her face! this was before the days of plastic surgery!

  • actually it wasn't before. plastic surgery was being experimented with decades before this.

you can see that katharine didn't go under the knife, but just thought i'd say.

  • I think this is the scene where Katherine told Anthony Harvey that SHE would not do it with her hair down. SHE told him hell no she would not do it. HE had to beg her to do it. IT was filmed two ways HAIR UP and HAIR DOWN. She saw the hair down. and slid a note underneath his bedroom door at the castle, and it said You were right.

  • How will any other actress even come close to Hepburn in the future? What an amazing genius she will have to be to withstand any comparison to Kate

  • @grai l hope Kate will, l mean Kate Winslet. l vrery much love her perofrmance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. l hope someday Kate will gain reputation somehow close to Katharine. l love Katharine in this scene too.

  • @grai Her name is Meryl Streep

  • @papermooner sorry meryl doesnt hold a candle to Katherine Hepburn, 4 oscars will NEVER be beaten AND all in the Best Actress category

  • Magistral Katharine, yo tambien quiero una reina asi para mi, me afano en ello dia a dia. 5*****

  • this scene is perfect, I love the way she controls her face and her body language is just outstanding! the director was very smart showing her to the public and then her twisted reflection in the mirror! it's just fascinating to watch! my fave scene from the Lion in Winter for sure!

  • katharine hepburn and peter o tool are the best actors of all times for me!!!!!

  • this is my favorite film of all time

she and he give the bets duet acting performances in screen history

    what a lifes work

  • This scene comes right after Eleanor masochistically asks her husband to kiss his mistress in front of her and then looks on in horror as they perform a mock marriage ceremony. What a movie!
