He isn't stupid, but it's geniune - Alan is the only one on the panel who refuses to look at notes before filming. So while everyone else has had time to think of things to say, Alan (and the audience) don't know what they're talking about until Stephen says it.
@ralesk 'ö' is the type of vowel described on Wikipedia as an "Open mid- front rounded vowel", usually written as 'oe', such as in the French word 'le'. So the word 'gömböc' is pronounced 'goemboetz'. It means "little ball" or "round blob".
@turkosicsaba I'm Hungarian, I know how these work :) Stephen is usually very proud of his heritage, and at the same time, he fails so incredibly at pronouncing anything that has to do with Hungarians.
Alan gets annoying when something is REALLY interesting. Like this thing, I wanted to hear about it, but he went on and on. When it comes to more meh things, it doesn't bother me at all.

Just so you're all aware, "That Alan guy" is actually playing a character on this show.

@psymon2005
What do you mean, playing a character?
JamieHowitt 8 months ago
@JamieHowitt Meaning he is an actor, and on this show, his character is a fictionalised version of himself. He's not really that stupid.

@JamieHowitt Oh fair enough. I knew he wasn't as stupid as he comes across, and i heard somewhere that it was because he played a character.

Oh come on, Rich is a comedian :) That was a totally Rich remark there, I totally appreciated it.
Stephen should have asked Gábor how to pronounce his name, and how to pronounce gömböc though.
