A friend of mine who worked for the City of Chicago as a laborer on a garbage truck is now on permanent disability due to a accident on the job. Rudy and his partner were riding on the back of the truck when the driver had to come to a sudden stop and Rudy lost his grip and fell off. Keep in mind that in Chicago, the laborer do not ride on the steps on the sides of the hopper. The stand on top of the sill of the hopper and the handles are on the corners of the upper part of the hopper area.
As a taxpayer in Westchester county, this truck bothers me. They're paying top dollar to have a Mack Chassis paired with some crappy New Way/Pakmor body. The county would never remount on the chassis--so more or less, this is a truck that's, IMHO, going to waste. It'll probably only get used for Parks--the mack is overspecified.
they got this truck for a reason for safety a garbage worker was killed on the job so quit bitching about this a very dangerous job when you are a route helper
it helps the driver see where his route helpers are so they dont get run over any packer can be fitted with cameras. This is for saftey not to waste tax payer money. some day that is what I might be doing as a career
I am not doubting the value of the camera--i'm for the camera. If you read my previous comment, I'm saying that ANY brand of packer (perhaps a heil or a leach), could have the same safety equipment, while also serving the county for MANY MORE YEARS.
Well they're on state contract, so they can save about $10,000 or so by getting one in place of a heavier duty make. My argument is that when you're spending $125,000 on a mack chassis, you might as well spend another $10,000 and get a decent packer. I've seen a county new way (less than 2 or 3 years old), with a bent and badly dented hopper sweep plate.

OK, I see the camera, but what other features are on it? As number 3 in the row, I'd like to know what happened. This clip needs a little context.
