The only reason he was created was to take over Snake because eventually Snake was going to be done In fact MGS4 Raiden was going to be the main character. But the creator decided to give snake a farewell. I just felt I needed to educate you on the subject of this character. People just need to give him a chance and to stop bitching about it. He was simply given a new cyborg body, but this time it looked human.

The Helmet he had was so that his jaw would be able to work properly and that spine thing is just a part of the Exoskeleton aka Muscle suit. It was integrated in his body so that it wouldnt strain his body but they just took the Suit of.
