I still cannot believe this was 40 years ago: probably the most mesmerizing last lap in Formula One history. Jochen's qualifying time for Monaco was 1:25.9; the last lap, he set the race's fastest lap and race record at 1:23.2.
This is the of the most intriguing moments in GP history. Jack always blamed Piers Courage for making him lose his line on that last bend, but was it really simply Rindt's pressure, or was Jack momentarily put off by Denny Hulme, a lap behind him, suddenly appearing in front ? I think the real cause was Denny, but what the hell do I know ?!
u c the flag man waiting as he obviuosly is expecting jack - as well how many leaders crash on the final corner lol - the race ran another lap 1 more than expected :)
Remember seeing 'Black Jack' going off at Gasometer Hairpin on the news on the night of the race, must have been nine years old! Been waiting for years to see the whole of the last lap, thanks!
Wow! I saw this on Wide World of Sports in 1970! Have been waiting to see it again! Brilliant! Rindt was so cool! Brabham was way off his line going into that corner!
Rindt was driving the Lotus 49 which was in its fourth year, having first appeared in 1967.That car was not nearly competitive and yet Rindt used it for the first 5 or 6 races of the 1970 season.Brabham was 44 in 1970 and lost a couple of races in the last lap due to misfortune and fuelstops. He might have been champ in his 44'th year.Rindt died in Monza.
A classic moment. Brabham was a world champion in 1966... Rindt became posthumous world champion in this year, 1970, because he died during practice for the 1970 Italian GP at Monza... after having won 5 F1 races. A sad year.
That poor guy with the flag, I bet he was so confused...

the old nouvelle chicane was so much better; the double chicane nowadays makes it so slow.

Why can't F1 have helicopter fly-by shots like they do from 0:48-1:14? That was was very creative for 1970!

Rindt crush their pole time 7 times in this race after "hunt" the 44 five years old Jack Brabham in the last lap. He was a great driver.

Amazing. I didn't know they had Brabham's mistake on video. And the flagsman!? I guess he was slightly confused...

I love how the marshal didn't even wave the checkered for Rindt because he didn't realize that Rindt won.
