did they have a cull of all the pillocks responsible for this rubbish...? then stick a bunch of new pillocks in their place? these drongos never tire of serving the nation with their uninvited brand of trite bbc breakfast time clutter...
The snippet of Ceefax music at the end is the old BBC1 opening music from the late 60s/early 70s, it is called Montage 3, by the late Ronnie Hazlehurst, there were about 3 lengths of this tune for Ceefax AM, so the appropriate one could be chosen to end dead on 06.29 before the globe and continuity announcement, by careful listening, one can make out the notes B-B-C.
Notice how short the continuity link is, after the Ceefax in-vision pages end. Everything is short, straight-to-the-point and concise. A far cry from what you get nowadays. 2-3 minutes of loud, irritating trailers, an idiot's guide to what's on the other BBC channels, more animation to tell you want channel you're actually watching, then the continuity announcer telling you want programme is on after the one that's about to start, etc.
Good to see this again. Back in the days when TV was a lot more interesting. The titles to, 'Breakfast Time', were something you could sit and watch! Unlike a lot of the TV production nowadays, which focuses more on the, 'celebrities', than the actually programme content. There was a more homely feel to the BBC, back then. Maybe I'm just getting old and nostalgic!
50 seconds worth of an almost motionless image! That entire intro would be cut right down to little more than 5 seconds of just the logo appearing, nowdays. I hate how TV shows just burst into action now, bring back the good intro sequences!
Frank Bough slid for 200 yards on the ice (how fast was he going?) and Yuri Andropov trying to negotiate with Ronald Reagan, it just doesnt get anymore interesting. At least you had Relax by Franke Goes To Hollywood.
@creaton1976 Yes and it had a lot to do with her success around this period. it was a definite choice by her to make herself look like a Diana clone because Diana was much loved at the time.
I love the way frank bought says at 2,03 i had an encounter on the m4 this morning i hope my wifes not up.....i thought he was going to say i picked up a prostitute, we all remember what happened to him a few years later, what with his transvestitism, picking up hookers, visiting madams, s and m parties and drug taking that led to him being outcast an ended his tv career
I only intended to watch the opening titles but got drawn in to the chat between Frank and Selina (even though it's clear they hated each other) and by the time the news item came on i pretty much forgot i had regessed 25 years- seem to have had an 'Ashes To Ashes moment' there!!
A nice anhemitonic melodic minor pentatonic scale at the start I think. They used to slowly increase the brightness of the studio too. Selina 'Diana' Scott - what a voice, what a woman.
I wonder if Selina Scott, currently involved in suing for age discrimination, will be giving her cash back to the Beeb for employing her for being young and attractive in the mid-80s.
I remember that winter! making snowmen and stuff. It's not my imagination, summers were hotter(and longer) amd winters were colder when I were a lad lol
It was a good programme from the very start, a year or so before this clip.
The opposition from TV-AM (egg-cup towers) had no chance at all.
The BBC had all the resources at Lime Grove (not to mention Frank & Selina) to gain a head start. 'Breakfast Time' got the formula exactly right and it was a success from the word go! Well deserved too!
