WHAT WOULD CAUSE A PARENT TO DO SUCH A THING, COULD IT BE THAT THERE IS STILL UNEQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR BLACK KIDS IN THE U.S., COULD IT BE THAT SHE WANTED HER CHILD TO HAVE THE BEST THE STATE HAS TO OFFER? WHY SHOULD SHE BE JAILED, UNLESS THE MESSAGE IS THAT SCHOOLS ARE SEPERATE AN UNEQUAL. SEGREGATION IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL
@ComputerHelp55 Yeah...her son might have paid property taxes one day. Good thing we crushed his chance of succeeding where his mother failed. It costs more in the long term to have uneducated people rolling around.
Actually, this is weird. The district you attend is generally the one you reside in. However, when someone is homeless, by definition they DON'T HAVE a residence, so how would you determine what district they even reside in?
This is stupid....where I'm from you get arrested for your children not being in school..... they need to be arrested for denying a child there education smdh # I'm discussed

@dims030 "Paying it forward," or covering someone's coffee in line at Scooters (or wherever) is actually common practice here in America as well. I know a lot of very nice Canadian folks, just as I know a lot of great Americans. Our problem is not any individual or group of individuals, but the people who think they can impose their will upon the rest of us. That is the wrong of a government born out of enterprise.
@Ogawa47 well Free Coffee aside You Have to admit the U.S has issues...when money and morality clash Money usually wins; sad way of thinking IMHO. @Ogawa47 Firstly the fact that America has great schools doesn't mean all Americans have access to a great education, in fact that's what this video is about! Rich people pay more taxes than poor people, hence the rich people have the right to send their children to schools that spend more per student. If all people pay such few taxes went to upper-class schools, the school system would not be able to provide such a high quality of education.
@RaoPaoer So because a kid is lucky enough to be born to wealthy parents, he gets a better education? The kid who just happened to be unfortunate enough to be born into a poor family doesn't deserve a good education? How does anyone expect poor families to stop being poor if they keep getting shit education, in turn getting shit jobs, making shit money, so on and so on.
@RaoPaoer The affluent has the choice to send their child to a private school whereas the poor and middle class is limited to public school. Public schools are for the equality society as whole while private schools cater to specific area of are society.
She has right to send her child to a public school whether it is a poor area or a rich.

@James61354 Don't make assumptions when you do not know the conditions of her homelessness. You are being as critical and heartless as the people who prosecuted her.
Is there a petition for this? Please link if there is. This is a marvelous fucking display of horrible racism and it's not fair or right! She shouldn't be going to jail.
A few months of public school isnt worth 15 thousand dollars. Shit....even twelve years of public school isnt worth 15 thousand dollars. This school is overvaluing the bullshit its peddling.
WHY NO MORE GOOD VOLUNTEER IN THE GOVERNMENT TO GIVE FREE SCHOOL FOR THE HOMELESS.THATS Y THEY ARE HOMELESS IT MEANS NO MORE MONEY.Y THE WEALTHY UNITED STATES CANNOT PROVIDE HELP FOR THE POOR? BUT THEY CAN DONATE BILLION DOLLARS TO THE OTHER COUNTRY? WHERE IS THEY'RE HEART?
First, the public education is screwed up and outdated anyway. Two, there's no reason that they should have done all this. Pretty damn sick and lame. However, it's only more reason to move forward to make a difference. It won't be through the system, but through people that come together to spread a form of education that's up to date with the times. Also programs that help teach that kind of education.
This is what happens when a country has "poor" schools and "wealthy" schools. Where I live, you can get into the best universities even if you went to the schools in poorer areas. You do well in school, you get it, end of. Any other system is inferior.
Equal funding produces mostly equal results for most schools, which gives room for individuals to excel , but creates a bottom line. Sure we have private schools but the education isn't any better, and isn't more likely to get you anywhere.
@GayByProxy I know. Frankly Im just trolling on this thread, I have no trouble about her putting her kid in a white school. Mabye he can learn something.
this is unbelieveable , poeple who murder people get less time . why would you even stoop so low , & give her 2O years , becus she wants to provide a better life for her son . 2O years ?! come on now , give her at least 2 days , no , dont give her nothingg . she loves her child & wants him to have a better life . dont be heartless , shes home less . ! i swear , this is sickeningg ! why ?!
@BOOSiEBxtch I completely agree with this. I'm still shocked at the 20 years for something so petty. Instead they should have been trying to help her and her son to stay in the school. Work something out, not throw her in jail. It's not lyk she damaged the school or tried to kill someone, but 20 years?? Where they do that at?? This is so petty.
t believe this. Not only do we have to pay our tax money for a PRIVATE prision system that does NOT rehabilitate and locks up all our kids for silly drug charges, our tax dollars support this crap?! SICKKK!
well it is obvious that african americans being educated poses a real threat to the status quo! clearly women who step out of line must be punished! how much is it going to take for us to say ENOUGH! what's the point of talking about freedom, democracy, and values when we have none? is the US really so great?? am i the only one thinking about defecting?
@jtreehugger what is wrong with AMERICA, not the world. This happened in AMERICA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Don't say "The world". IF this happened in any other country on this Globe, Americans would be the first ones to judge, point fingers and pepper it with some more "oh how awful that country is" crap. But when it happens in AMERICA, then it's like "What's wrong with the WORLD". AMERICANS, get over yourselves and realize that YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!
@MariRariGari calm yourself. The "world" is just a figure of speech, thanks to popular usage. To add, America is not perfect. Neither is any other country on the planet. For the record, the WORLD does suck. All you can do is do your best. Coming back to the main point of this thread, the rich get richer and the poor get put in jail. Its only going to change when the human population on this PLANET encounters a sharp decline due to world wide catastrophe. Have a nice day.
It's time for war. It's time for revolution. And you myopic fuckers can stop missing the point and blaming this on political parties. Demican, Republicrat, this whole fucking country needs to be burned to the ground.
When they stand before God, they will have to answer for that. People think they will get away with injustice in this world, but one day, they will have to face true justice, the Justice of God.
Illegals that are being sent back across the border get better treatment-- I think this judge that passed such a sentence needs to be exposed--- sounds very vicious to me.
Its the same as for illegal aliens in one respect- You are supposed to have a residence that is within the boundary of the school district--- you don't get to just pick a school and give false address so you can enroll a child there. It should be a misdemeanor in my opinion -- You don't make an example of a poor person by fining them a huge debt the won't be able to pay. But, she broke the law- it's too bad she is homeless but putting her in jail is ludicrous
This is absurd and sad. Not only will her son not get the education he deserves, but he'll be without a mother for 20 years? Wow.....I'm at a loss of words here.
I pray that she doesn't stay in jail and that both her and her son get the life they deserve.
@coolmamac ANY punishment is too much! You think she deserves to be punished? I hope you're a christian because if you aren't I expect you to be more moral.
You'd get less time if you abused and raped your kid!! 20 years?! for what?! trying to give her child a better life? trying to give him an education? Their basically saying "You're poor, your child is poor, he can't come here with our rich kids." Uh, WHAT THE HECK?!
UNBELIEVABLE, 20 YEARS. O.K. I am aware about the district enrolling policies and the school TAXES that the district residents have to fork out------ but 20 years!!! I give her a lot of credit for trying to better her son's education. I know a few people who did this and all they got was a 30 day notice to remove their child from that school. WOW, the police must have mistaken her for Richard Ramirez.
Yep - what does it cost to keep one person in jail now? It's something like $35000 to 40000 per year, I think, which has got to be more than the cost of sending a kid to school. Apart from anything else there's a benefit to society if the kid is in school, and a benefit to the child of having a mother who isn't incarcerated, as opposed to the zero benefit of the kid being uneducated and the mother being in prison.
I do not get why schools get differing amounts of money. All schools should be getting the same amount of money and should have a high standard of education. We give the rich kids everything and nothing to the poor kids? Why are we punishing the kids for their parents poverty? Why not give them a good education so they can have a good job and perhaps stay out of jail? The rich keep pushing the poor down in America.
Check on google images the corruption index the states' rating is bullcrap it should've been lower if you're denying people a descent education and future
i think it is time for revolution. i have this feeling of piking up torches and pickforks and run in to the washintong and burn all the companys and politicans. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!!???????????
What the heck was this? This does not happen in Australia. You're more likely to face the problems at the start here. Even enrolling in a public high school in average neighbourhoods can be difficult as there are more applicants than places in the schools with a better reputation. I wanted to go just out of my zone bc of the subjects offered. It was pretty difficult but we did it. Nobody would be arrested over this if they did fake something though. Asked to leave at worst.
the fact that they give her 20 years for larceny is just ridiculous, it makes me sick to my stomach to think that rich people could do this to a homeless woman.
@ManUtdiszbest This story has nothing to do with rich people anyway. Rich people didn't kick her son out because she was poor. They kicked her son out because they mother didn't live in that schools district. Since she's homeless she should have enrolled her son in her a school in her last place of residency,
@MrDustock GDP is used to measure our standard of living. Countries that have a tendency to invest more into education have a better system than what we do. The United States only invests roughly 5.7% of its overall GDP. That comes out to about 2% of our Federal budget according to UNESCO, and you are trying to argue that we spend to much? If you make education a prioritized issue, you will receive prioritized results. For proof of this you just have to look at our defenses which have priority.
@MontrealAtheist Actually no, because she's homeless what she should have done was enroll her son in a school in the district of her last place of residency. The school she tried to enroll her son in was not in that district. Her son could go there if the mother would be able to pay a tuition to the school because she wouldn't have helped it with her taxes.
@lilnicky492 fail on you. Homeless poor people should be charged $0 for school or the world's homeless should have the legal right to burn rich greedy fuckers at the stake.
People who beat & molest their children get less time than that. But no, a woman who obviously cares about her son & wants a better life for him is thrown in jail for 20 years because she DARED to enroll him in a wealthy school. I wonder if this would have been a problem had she enrolled him in a poor school;
It's clear that the legal system in this area is trying to send a strong message: If you are poor and not living in this district, DO NOT enroll your child in our wealthy, high achieving schools. Stay where you are--which is the poor, violent schools where the students and parentsvdon't try to make a culture of learning. That's what you must be subjected to, it's what you deserve. Why else would you threaten to put her in jail for 20 years?! I mean, rapists serve less time.
@seiferganon I completely agree! The part about rapists serving less time occurred to me as soon as they mentioned how much jail time she was facing. I fail to understand how someone who raped another person could serve less time than a person who simply enrolled her son in a district she didn't live in - it's terrible!
This is absolutely despicable. A woman is giving her heart and soul to her kin in order for him to improve his life, and she gets chastised for it.
This cements the idea how much power and manipulation the wealthy have here!
They reap the rewards, the rest of us suffer.
What happened to America being the "land of opportunity"? Now it's the "land of snot-nosed, uppity, opulent curmudgeons dictating the less fortunate"!
@slr2111 You mean the post where you displayed your unwavering ignorance and arrogance by saying the school must have lots of minorities? Guy, if you want to have a better understanding of this world and the creatures that inhabit it, I would recommend you not assume or prejudge anything before forming an opinion. This is a basic step to freeing your mind.

Willettes1 7 months ago
First, the public education is screwed up and outdated anyway. Two, there's no reason that they should have done all this. Pretty damn sick and lame. However, it's only more reason to move forward to make a difference. It won't be through the system, but through people that come together to spread a form of education that's up to date with the times. Also programs that help teach that kind of education.

oodlesofosz 8 months ago
This is what happens when a country has "poor" schools and "wealthy" schools. Where I live, you can get into the best universities even if you went to the schools in poorer areas. You do well in school, you get it, end of. Any other system is inferior.
Equal funding produces mostly equal results for most schools, which gives room for individuals to excel , but creates a bottom line. Sure we have private schools but the education isn't any better, and isn't more likely to get you anywhere.
GayByProxy 8 months ago
@GayByProxy We have to have the school system the way it is, otherwise rich schools would be overun by the negro.

BOOSiEBxtch 8 months ago
@BOOSiEBxtch I completely agree with this. I'm still shocked at the 20 years for something so petty. Instead they should have been trying to help her and her son to stay in the school. Work something out, not throw her in jail. It's not lyk she damaged the school or tried to kill someone, but 20 years?? Where they do that at?? This is so petty.

jtreehugger 10 months ago
@jtreehugger what is wrong with AMERICA, not the world. This happened in AMERICA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Don't say "The world". IF this happened in any other country on this Globe, Americans would be the first ones to judge, point fingers and pepper it with some more "oh how awful that country is" crap. But when it happens in AMERICA, then it's like "What's wrong with the WORLD". AMERICANS, get over yourselves and realize that YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!
MariRariGari 9 months ago 3
@MariRariGari calm yourself. The "world" is just a figure of speech, thanks to popular usage. To add, America is not perfect. Neither is any other country on the planet. For the record, the WORLD does suck. All you can do is do your best. Coming back to the main point of this thread, the rich get richer and the poor get put in jail. Its only going to change when the human population on this PLANET encounters a sharp decline due to world wide catastrophe. Have a nice day.

Illegals that are being sent back across the border get better treatment-- I think this judge that passed such a sentence needs to be exposed--- sounds very vicious to me.
seahorse1945 10 months ago
Its the same as for illegal aliens in one respect- You are supposed to have a residence that is within the boundary of the school district--- you don't get to just pick a school and give false address so you can enroll a child there. It should be a misdemeanor in my opinion -- You don't make an example of a poor person by fining them a huge debt the won't be able to pay. But, she broke the law- it's too bad she is homeless but putting her in jail is ludicrous

sofaking1111 10 months ago 128
@sofaking1111
Yep - what does it cost to keep one person in jail now? It's something like $35000 to 40000 per year, I think, which has got to be more than the cost of sending a kid to school. Apart from anything else there's a benefit to society if the kid is in school, and a benefit to the child of having a mother who isn't incarcerated, as opposed to the zero benefit of the kid being uneducated and the mother being in prison.
geffel 10 months ago 4
@sofaking1111 Keeping her in jail for one year would cover that kids highschool education.

@ManUtdiszbest This story has nothing to do with rich people anyway. Rich people didn't kick her son out because she was poor.

Hmmmm, how about in their ancestral homeland in sub-Saharan Africa???
What business do homeless negroes have in a wealthy white neighbourhood anyway other than to create trouble?
MontrealAtheist 10 months ago
@MontrealAtheist Actually no, because she's homeless what she should have done was enroll her son in a school in the district of her last place of residency. The school she tried to enroll her son in was not in that district. Her son could go there if the mother would be able to pay a tuition to the school because she wouldn't have helped it with her taxes.

People who beat & molest their children get less time than that. But no, a woman who obviously cares about her son & wants a better life for him is thrown in jail for 20 years because she DARED to enroll him in a wealthy school. I wonder if this would have been a problem had she enrolled him in a poor school;
lightningxstryke 10 months ago 78
It's clear that the legal system in this area is trying to send a strong message: If you are poor and not living in this district, DO NOT enroll your child in our wealthy, high achieving schools. Stay where you are--which is the poor, violent schools where the students and parentsvdon't try to make a culture of learning. That's what you must be subjected to, it's what you deserve. Why else would you threaten to put her in jail for 20 years?! I mean, rapists serve less time.
seiferganon 10 months ago 58
@seiferganon I completely agree! The part about rapists serving less time occurred to me as soon as they mentioned how much jail time she was facing. I fail to understand how someone who raped another person could serve less time than a person who simply enrolled her son in a district she didn't live in - it's terrible!
