Hi! what do you think about super city block spf 40 by clinique? do you think it is a good sun face protector? (zinc oxide 8.80% , octinoxate 7.50% ,titanium dioxide 6.60% , octisalate 2.00% )
@oklahomaes That is great! I love that it contains both zinc and TD. I would love it (for face) to be above 10% zinc, but really, City Block is a great everyday sunblock. Good job!
I wonder if you could recommend the BEST SPF 100 sunscreen that has NO animal fats and oils and NO vegetable fats and oils in it , I really need your recommendation .
Hi, I play tennis and I'm not sure what type of sunscreen I should use on my face and body. I've been using Neutrogena ultimate sport lately for both my face and body and it leaves my skin dark and really hot after practice. Is it suppose to do that or do I need a new sunscreen? Thanks.
@januarybasketball You might like Kiss My Face Sunspray Lotion SPF 30 which has 8% zinc oxide and 2.5% titanium dioxide. There isn't a lot of slide to the formula, so it stays put once you rub it in. We use it for all of our sports and it has been successful.
Hi Catherine, is there any sunscreen or sunblock that you would recomend for acne prone skin, im on retin A treatment, antibiotics........ my doctor told me to use sunscreen but didnt specify. And also sunscreen or sunblock??.......thanks a lot
@hemexever I would try Badger or Blue Lizard. Neither should conflict with what you are taking, though, when you are on antibiotics and using Retin A, you should try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
does the coppertone sunscreen offer uva protection? i'm using the neutrogena dry touch sunscreen on my body now..but i'm not sure if it offers any uva protection..thx~
@lovetobeiris Yes, the Pure & Simple Coppertone is the only one I would recommend in that line, at the moment. I love Blue Lizard, though, and you should be able to find that at your local drugstore, too.
Wanted to let you know that there has been a lot of discussion lately about the potential danger of using nanoparticles in sunscreen/block. There will be more of a crackdown on ingredients used in sunscreens soon, which should help consumers make educated decisions when selecting a sunblock.
I switched from a zinc oxide product to LOréal Revitalift UV with Mexoryl SX because I wanted to ensure excellent UVA protection on a visit to St. Thomas this summer. I found even with 5 or 6 reapplications per day I burned through the LOréal. I switched back to an inexpensive zinc oxide product and even with less applications didn't burn. Once I switched back to the zinc oxide my burn healed while still having 5 or 6 hours of sun exposure daily.
I have done well with Anthelios (Mexoryl) ... but my tried and true is anything with at least 7% zinc oxide in it. I am sorry to hear that you burned on your vacation. I can tell you feel the same way that I do about certain ingredients being better UVA/UVB blockers. Next vacation, I bet you'll pack your zinc :)
hi.. i just discovered ur channel.. its so informative.. I'm pregnant with my second baby. and in desperate need of a good sunscreen. i have sombination skin.presently i use nuetrogen ultra sheer spf 70. but it turns me into a white ghost!! please advice me. i'm looking for a good affordable sunscreen. preferably with not too many harsh things.. also do u have any solutions for pregnancy pigmentation? i have it all over my body. i have a fair complexion.now i look like a zebra. pleae help me.
Hi there! If you stick with baby formulas of most sunscreen brands, you should be okay. They will most likely be chemical free. Try to find one with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
As far as pregnancy pigmentation, most of that will go away after the baby comes. I did get some age spots on my hands during pregnancy, which unfortunately, did not go away. Yikers! Maybe I will do a pregnancy skin care post!!!
Hello :) I would just like to know if Spf 30 is enough to protect the skin from everyday sun exposure, or should I get a higher Spf for that matter? Thanks! ^_^
It's more about the ingredients and less about the SPF #. Meaning, you could have an SPF 45 but if it doesn't contain zinc or titanium dioxide (or mexoryl), it won't block the sun as effectively as one that does. If you keep to these ingredients, you should be fine.

This specific one (Pure & Simple) from Coppertone does, as it contains 14% zinc oxide which blocks UVA and UVB rays.

So far, only the following companies have confirmed keeping nanoparticles out of their products. I am hoping more join the list.
* Alba Botanica
* Allergan
* Avalon Organics
* Black Opal
* Blistex
* Chattem, Inc. -- Bullfrog
* Lakeview Laboratories -- Tatoo Goo
* Lavera
* Schwarzkopf & Henkel
