  • Ric Ocasek has this unique "ugly" cool about him. Only the lead singer of The Cars could pull it off.

  • one of my favourite songz of all time, brings bak good memorys...thnx

  • i used too play this in the late 90's,cruising through the walpack valley, top down, and she who we do not name's head in my lap ;)

  • this the cars at their best playing loud and proud with a guitar & drum line like no other.

  • donde es esto en el paraiso donde se encuentra ben ....judith

  • Def.one of my favorite song from the Cars. Great video too.Wish they were still making music.

  • that girl running in the leather jacket is hot

  • any1 out there 'on the lot' have a video of SNL live version of this ?! plz post if so

  • This should've been the big hit from "Door To Door". Clearly better than that lame "You Are The Girl" song. I bet it would've gone Top 10 or higher had Ric, Ben & co released it as the first single off the album. Instead they waited to release it as the 2nd single off "D2D". This is clearly the standout track off the album. Too bad Top 40 snubbed it. Went to #4 on the AOR charts but after it expired off the charts AOR stopped playing it altogether. SAD!

  • This Cars song was their next to last Hot 100 song, their last Hot 100 song was "Coming Up You" in 1988.

  • Pfffft.......and did Ric need the approval of Simon cowell to go ahead with this coolest-of-cool band???

  • @kaysee88 Well said. Rock on!

  • Benjamin Orr is just very Hot, always, but even more Yummie in this video!

  • GREEEAAATTTT FOR THE GREAT ROCK BAND "THE CARS" LOVE YOU GUYS THIS IS A REAL AMERICAN MUSIC 100 % MADE IN USA

  • Its funny how much we tend to forget over the years, and then 1 song can open the memory floodgates...

    Thanks for posting....

  • Thanks Ryder! Found "Maggie" on youtube and it is just Ric. Still Strap Me In is in my top 5 Cars. Thanks for posting... Love this <3

  • Ric is an amazing person. 1987 is the peak for me :)

  • HOLY SHIT......THE CARS ARE HARD ROCK!!!!!! :D

  • incredible! i just can't believe that they didn't make it on the list of greatest artists of all time VH1 special........... and BEYONCE WAS???????????????? something is seriously wrong with that picture!!!!!!!!!!! anyone else agree?? please, someone????/

  • @mediterraneanqueen Totally agree with you. It feels like the population is in some kind of coma. Follow the leader-whatever they feed to them they like. I am not saying that Beyonce isnt good, because I think she is one of the few who is talented, but your right-give it some time before you label anyone a greatest artist of all time.

The Cars should have been on that list and definitely in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

God willing they will be in soon; their new album is very good.

  • @mediterraneanqueen its all bull shit, that's why, i dont even follow vh1 and Mtv anymore. Maybe Vh1classic

  • dobegirl01

He is NOT wearing a shirt under that vest. I have looked at that myself and thought "Ben doesn't look like he has any chest hair". I have always liked men with no chest hair or very little.

My comment about Jeans, T-Shirt, & Blk Leather is how the girl looks.

I love to where those colors, to this day. My home is decorated in blue denim color, black furniture, and white accents. They say you should decorate your home with colors you love. Blessings-

  • This song is so good, but it is so bittersweet to me.

This was the last video from them for 24 years and the last video with the late, great Benjamin Orr.

    (miss you Ben)

  • I use to have a black dress and cowboy boots like hers.

  • Great song. Nothing else matters;)

  • @Nervus88 This is one hot song.....and all the guys are HOT too!

  • Those kids in the video are now in their 30s! Where did the time go?

  • Guess Jeans, White T-Shirt, Black Leather....... Still looks good. Classic

  • @JesusFreakJene does BEN have on a shirt? or is it my imagination it's just the vest:) **

  • Looking for the video of a song called Maggie - Ric Ocasek sang it but I can't find it so I don't know if its Cars or just Ric. If anyone has the video - please post! xxx

  • @BUNNYBOILER143 I've seen Maggie on Youtube. It's just Ric, I'm guessing it was never released on an album?

  • incendiary solo....

  • Ahh, this solo couldn't get any more awesome!!

  • We are a "Classic Generation" !!!

  • The album Door" to "Door was a "Great one!! It "Kinda went back to the early years of the Cars.It had more of a "Rock and Roll sound to it instead of the "Techno vibe of the albums that preceded this one. "Great stuff! Thanks for posting this " Vid.

  • I "loved the cars back in HS. This was one of the most popular bands of all time. the y sure dont make music like this any more!

  • "God how i miss the cars!!.....

  • As much as I love the cars, I don't think I had ever seen this video before? The fabulously talented Elliot, outrageously sexy Ben, the quirky Ric. He always fascinated me for some reason, WHERE does he come up with his lyrics? So cool! I pity anyone who didn't grow up in the 80's and grow up with this band. So talented and so underated!

  • Back in '87 viewers were probably asking, "What are those mounted propellers?"

  • great song, lousy album.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrManfly maybe mediocre would be a better description of this album?

  • what a song...what a band...might be best guitar solo ever...thanks Ryder276 for the post

  • @flybug67 Your welcome

  • @flybug67 I think all of Elliot Eastons solo riffs are Extra Hot, but I think his solo on "Tonight She Comes" has got to be the most innovative rocker spot, ever! The Cars Rock It Hard!

  • Ben Orr looks sooooo sexy in this vid....RIP, you are missed so much!!

  • fantastic

  • Class at it's finest!

  • I feel as if I stepped into a wormhole and fell back into the sweetest years of my life!

  • this was a great album ,, from 87 ,, still sounds fresh picked up the new one today great also, these guys are still a rock solid band only one thing missing BEN ORR still great that RIC IS STILL HERE ,,KEEP ROCKING GUYS

  • this was a great album ,, from 87 ,, still sounds fresh picked up the new one today great also, these guys are still a rock solid band only one thing missing BEN ORR still great that RIC IS STILL HERE ,,KEEP ROCKING GUYS

  • even though people give this album shit, remember, it's better than fuckin Lady Gaga or Lil' Wayne for pete's sake

  • thie transformation from folk to their o "own sound" fuck new wave, they are amazing...even still, move this way doesnt miss a beat....cars rock---porter..

  • Great song ! Fan since the 70's !

  • Thanks for downloadig this video! An underappreciated song that deserves more YouTube play!

  • music sucks right now, these guys are like G..ds..

  • I never knew that they did a video for this song. This album was not a commercial success, which is probably why it led to their breakup and solo careers, but it is interesting to see. Weird fact - on door to door, two songs were pulled from their first song writting sessions in 1977 when they wrote their first album. Double Trouble was one of those songs, I think this is the other (and explains the heavy guitar use - a throwback to their first album).

  • @Cuteblondie1972 Sweetie... i love the lace album and i miss him so much..=. /

  • Shit never knew they did a video for this song!!!!!

  • Forgot about this one.

  • Hey? Isn't that Thelma and Louise's Thunderbird ?

  • 20 seconds of sheer guitar heaven.From 2:30 to 2:50

  • @dudefromtherock I agree! My 6 year old son is a huge Beatles fan and I just downloaded The Cars "Sad Song" single coming out on their new 2011 album and he is now hooked and wants me to get the The Cars entire library. Yes son, whatever makes you happy. I know it will make me happy when I get it. I know it will be worth it. Children and music they grow up with is priceless. I'm in dream land to think that children can be so easily influenced my music recorded over 30 to 40 years ago.

  • What a cool vid, although I have loved this song since it came out I have never seen the vid, one of those ones that fell between the cracks I guess. I like this song mainly because it sounds more guitar driven like their earlier stuff.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Ben is soooooo sexy!!!!! R.I.P. Benjamin.

  • los amo cars...¡

  • what model is that Kramer EE is playing?

  • @Boblobblaw88 He's playing the Kramer EE model (yup, named for him), which wasn't very successful... if you check out the Rolling Stones' "Mixed Emotions" video, Mick Jagger plays one.

  • Easton could play for the song like no one else. I love his stuff .. wish I could play like him.

  • The Cars RULE!!

  • Love this song. One of my top 5 Cars favorites.

  • The cars new cd in 23 years this may 2011 can't wait called move like this ..tracks are awesome ..

  • Holy crap, there was a video for this song... which I discover 23 years later.

Odd video though. I always picture a woman strapping me to a chair and...

    Well, thanks for posting it.

  • Man,the guitar sound from this track is amazing. One of my all time favorites.

  • @1ssjesus

Agreed, awesome guitar riffs. This while album was awesome... but it didn't sell and was overlooked (by Whitesnake and other very heavy acts back then).

  • awesome song, the cars rock

  • Excellent song from the late 80's.

  • I have been waiting forever and a day for The Cars to release a DVD of their official Music Videos. It'd be fun to see all the behind the scenes making of them. Recently, a Live DVD/CD is available of past performances called The Cars Unlocked.

  • great song...but I dont understand the video

  • @longhairedpig welcome to the 1980s.

  • @teknokrat1 has nothing to do with the 80's. There are current videos that are bizarre & dont make sense either.

  • @longhairedpig yeah thanks for ruining the joke there captain obvious.

  • @teknokrat1 sorry

  • ****Lindinho!!!****

  • This is an interesting video, somehow feels isolated. The girl in the purple dress running looks as though she could seriously be my twin, or double... gosh.

  • Was recorded in South Philadelphia

  • Where was this recorded? Anyone know?

  • Not sure about Elliot being the greatest guitarist but I love the Cars!

  • Didn't even know there was a video for this song :)

  • Love this!! Door to door was my personnal soundtrack early 1988.

Great to see this video again!!

  • Elliot Easton is brilliant in this....between camera pans on Ben and Elliot's solo, not sure what I like better :)

  • I've always wanted to know what sunglasses those are that Ric is wearing. By not being around in the 80's, I have no clue xD

  • the neighborhood scenes were taped in my tract.

  • Man by this time they must've really hated each others guts. They're like a mile apart from each other in the video!

  • ben orr the heart and soul of the cars

  • Though critically panned by the press...I think door to door was a great album. With this song and the beautiful Coming Up You on the playlist, it is well received by all whom I have shared it with. The Cars are, to me, were the best part of the 80's music. Thanks guys.....and rest in peace Ben. You brought joy to many in you short life...

  • One of Ocasek's coolest tunes. But that doesn't mean he had any business singing it. This song needed Orr's voice.

  • @Roskomaximus

If you listen to some of their interviews, Ocasek and Orr recorded all of their songs using both of their voices and then they decided during editing and finalizing the album who they would go with. The Cars were taken by surprise that Strap Me hit the charts like it did. They were concerned about slow sales of the album and of course the critics remarks at the time when the band finally called it quits.

  • If I wrote this song I would have been very pleased with myself.

  • Why is Ric always seen the most in the videos? Just a few shots of the other guys, and are they standing in order of importance? I think Ben was the leadman.

  • One of the best groups ever!

  • i like the begin of this song!!!!!

  • I honestly swear I have played this song weekly over the decades...thats 1000 times and I never got sick of it and deeply enjoy it...ive played in the shower...in the car ...lifting weights jogging with my "walkman" tape player...thankyou!

  • ithankyou!...i like many cars songs...rick songs...benjamin songs...but I think I love this song the very best! (outstanding sexy video) I play this song thousands of times and still love since day 1...(1986 or 87?) just yesterday to me I'm 45! /@ milwaukee

  • @rocketshipstud6 You know this whole album never got the credit or attention it deserved. How many life experiences can you remember while you were listening to this song? One listen to this song and I take a time machine back from 44 to 21in 2 secs flat.

  • @dudefromtherock you know why, this album came out during the hair band days, you know, warrant, poison, etc, this great album never had a chance, i never even saw this video on mtv at the time

  • Comment removed

  • @jinfanger The greatest gift you can give your child is a influence in music...good music, music that will be heard 20, 30, 40 years from now. Music like this and not the disposable crap of today like Britney Spears and Lady GaGa. To quote David Lee Roth "here today, gone later today".

  • @dudefromtherock true.

  • @dudefromtherock The problem was when this song was released it was right in the middle of the hair band days, BON JOVI, POISON, and DEF LEPPARD were topping the charts, plus at this time U2 released there big album THE JOSHUA TREE, SO THE CARS ALBUM DOOR TO DOOR never had a chance

  • @dudefromtherock I think its getting more attention now though : ). It did make it to platinum

  • I remember when this came out in 87. Love it!

  • Possibly my favorite Cars song. It's right there with some of the classics like Bye Bye Love, Moving in Stereo, Candy-O, and so many others.

  • Happy 61st birthday to Ric.

  • Their music is timeless! I still enjoy listening to it. I saw them in Cincinnati on this tour. They were great!

  • WOW, I never knew they made a video to this song. This was a really good album. These were the days...... Glad I was around for them !!! Saw them live in Dallas on this tour.

  • Rick has a really hot wife!!! Geeeeez

  • Door to Door is an under-appreciated album.

  • I haven't seen this video in 20 years. I haven't heard this song in almost 15 years. I had the album, but it was destroyed. Thanks, Hurricane Floyd.

  • elliot easton rocks!!!!! so does leftys!!

  • I got this album when it first came out in 87 but this is the very first time i'm seeing this video

  • Damn...was it that long ago? Was driving down Queen St. E in Toronto when I had this in the tape player of my 83 Honda Civic, blasing it for all it was worth. Good times...

  • eles sao bons....

  • Ben at 3:29. YUM!

  • Isn't one of those girls rics wife

  • I think Ric looks very very cool in this video, specially at 0:58

  • Wow. I'm a cars fan and this is the first time I've even heard this. Thank you for Posting.

  • Such an underrated song and band.

  • Of all the bands from the '70's/'80's, I miss the Cars the most! One of the truly underrated bands of all time..

  • both my idols are gone, ben orr and steve clark,, rip guys

  • These guys really need to release a greatest hits DVD already. Classic videos like this as well as many of their others would be so awesome to own in one's personal video library. I love the footage of the Mojave Desert in the background. Something about using the isolation of the desert to add impact to the words of a song just never seems to get old. Thanks for posting this timeless classic of a video.

  • I would love to see all their videos on DVD too

  • @Wheeljack35 I totally agree, they need to make a DVD where this is a tribute to Ben Orr and the pancreatic foundation, just like they did with the 1979 Cars live album

  • Yes a DVD of all the cars music videos would be great. it seems something like this came on VHS way back in the time when Heartbeat City came out. it was a small collection of their videos from that album plus some inserts from Shake it up and Panorama. That alone would be worth getting even if it is via ebay. From what i understand, it went out of print a while ago unless there is a copy on sale somwwhere.

  • @dressshoeguy This was after the Heartbeat City VHS.

  • This is a much better song than I remember it seeming to be back when it was released second from this album, at the time I thought Double Trouble or Coming up You would have garnered more chart attention. This video is also quite a departure from what they usually had done. Were any other videos done after this one?

  • Elliot Easton was one of the best guitar players ever!

  • still is

  • Was? Is! :)

  • @thepaddywagonishere

Elliot Easton IS one of the best guitar players ever!

  • @thepaddywagonishere Elliot still is.

  • @thepaddywagonishere not even close

  • @tulllguy He is one of the best!

  • @thepaddywagonishere He still is. He's alive.

  • Paulina was a popular model back then, so they both had cash. Rick was a really unique man and artist.

  • um, they didn't marry until 1989.

  • A Great song from a brilliant group from the 70's & 80's and what I missed out on in terms of brilliant music. Well least I found it!! I like Ric Ocasek on this record like many! (great voice) RIP Benjamin Orr.

  • thanks a lot. I loved them when I was a teen & even more now.

  • This song is great. Period. I think it may be one of their best. So, what's new is old...What's old, is strikingly New...*

  • what a great song off the album Door toDoor. thanks for the video

  • Been looking for this one for awhile. One killer song !!. Love Elliot's lead guitar part on it. The Cars are one of the best bands ever. Thanks !!!!
