@dier2tte everyone knows it was a scandal by mercedes. they couldn't get the distronic to work indoors so they placed a plank on the floor and when the driver drove over it, he'd apply the brakes manually. things went wrong and the driver didn't stop short. mercedes were forced to admit they foiled the distronic demonstration. top gear's explanation is a little off i guess.
They are making fun of germans in this, the fog was bad, and if they didnt have that technology the crash would've been alot worse and someone could've got hurt.

Mercedes is the leader in technology and the only cars in the world that are the safest, the system was actually turned off and at least mercedes are testing new ways to improve automobiles and i have been in a an S class using this technology and the car drives by it selfs and stops perfectly.
OMG, just go read the actual description of the system: It does not break the car to a full stop but reduces the speed by 40% only..that's what the system all about. It would not make any sense to build a system that would make the car break and stop by itself...what if you want to run into the car infront of view, say a Merc S class cop car for example, or a mafia car!!

yeah i know i had this argument with my dad and he won, he says your paying for the name MERCEDES, if you park your car in the wrong place at a hospital or a school they will announce "The owner of the MERCEDES S CLASS PLEASE MOVE THE CAR" or w/e and people will get jelous, no 1 will care if they call out a s40, same with a gallardo, the new skyline is actully alot faster, but no 1 will care its only a NISSAN, where as the otherone is a lambo
