The states where teachers are not allowed a voice in the work place have lower scores not grades. Do you understand the difference? Teachers with collective bargaining rights advocate for what is best for teaching and learning. Teachers without that voice are dictated to by non educators. Issue 2 was defeated by a landslide. It went down in flames, just like Jessie James.
What does merit pay mean? Standardized test scores? There is no explanation of merit in sb5. I used to work in the private sector and I know that merit pay means favoritism for "yes" people. Vote NO on issue 2 (in the next eighteen minutes of voting). its unfair, unsafe and hurts us all EXCEPT the top 1%.
This issue offers no explanation of merit pay. Would teachers be paid based on their student's grades? Why should their salary be held accountable to students who don't do their work out of sheer laziness or apathy? What about student evaluations? Many students who are pushed to work hard complain about their work loads, which translates into negative evals. And their parents don't spend nearly enough time in the classroom to make an informed decision either.
@megazwatcher Actually you are very confused again. OGT, ACT, SAT scores are rising. Higher in the more affluent districts of course. They are the lowest in states that do not allow collective bargaining. NO on issue 2.
Citizens United, May I ask, what business is it of your's what happens in Ohio? You are based out of Washington DC. Keep your money and thoughts out of my state!
On Video of NEA Conference, a speaker was Loudly Cheered when he said, "We are Not about Education, We are Not about the Children, But We Are about Money and Power and Control!"

You wasted your money and now have awoken a sleeping giant you idiots.
Attacking workers and collective bargaining is doom for the entire GOP in 2012.

well the current system is obviously not working
if ohio's schools were a franchise hotel, they would have lost their name and brand years ago.

@baritonebynight
so the states where the unions can't have their way have lower grades i.e. teachers not doing their jobs
big surprise there.
self entitled people don't excel when they don't get their own way

At the Top of NEA's Recommended Reading List is:
'Rules for Radicals' by Saul Alinsky, a Neo-Marxist that espoused the 13 Ways to Overthrow the USA
He dedicated this book to Lucifer (Satan).
