I agree that Vodoun in west Africa is quite old and predates the religions of Ibrihim, recent finds in Archaeological sites have found objects, emblems, and symbols that are very much like modern day Congolese objects, emblems, and symbols. The Mpomba Nsila (cosmogram) and the objects with it are dated to at least 20000 years old.
I'm glad this message is getting out, we're supposed to be living in a time of religious tolerance yet Traditional African Religions have been demonised and not given the same respect or research as other faiths. I am currently making a documentary on this, you can view the trailer by typing in Ancestral Voices: Esoteric African Knowledge
This is true that all humans originated in Africa; and with the new theory of "gene expression" we can now see how experience and environmental factors affect the next generation; it might only take 40 or 50 generations for Norweigans to become dark again, or for Africans to become blond, if they moved to each others' areas.
We're amazingly all the same, despite the irritating nature of some individuals and the tendency to cast blame on an entire unrelated group.
It's reassuring to know some people still practice their native religion. We of European descent are just now beginning to reconstruct our native religions.
Hence google yahoo msn being the 3 dimentional ralms or wórlds the spiritual worlds most of the western world is talking bad and discreting vodoun but a day will come wen all will greatly seek to learn voodoo needed for survival that only those who followed voodoo from the start will survive that date is approaching quickly that is why everyone is turning to the internet seeking spiritual knowledge but the knowledge can not be found on the internet because it is scarce
U racist piece of shit why didn't u put voodoo or vodoun on the list? Voodoo or vodoun is the old religion in the entire world and probably the universe also not only is vodoun the oldest but its also the only true religion of the world that is the reason why they use natural elements to worship the gods vodoun is like the internet wen seeking answers to your questions u might turn to google yahoo or msn all 3 of them being 3 different ralms
I just have to add that I don't think Judaism, Buddhism or Hinduism has done anything to try to squash Voodoo or any other religion in the world. It is not the way of those religions. I could be wrong...but I doubt it.
Hinduism is not older then any indigenous African religion, which includes the Kemetic religions of ancient Egypt (Isis and Osiris). The 'Aryans" were not Europeans. They were the ancestors of the present day Persians/Iranians. The Vedas and the foundation of what came to be known as "Hinduism" was already there having been established by the Dravidians and Ethiopians. It was later Ayranized by the Persians. Vodoun and other African religions are NOT shamanistic. That is a western myth.
Hinduism is reported to be around 5 - 10,000 years old. Scientists are even considering an "out of India theory" which seems more plausible then the "out of Africa theory". The reason is they can trace almost all human languages, religions and philosophies to the Indian sub-continent. India is also located in a position were people could spread out all over the world (Australia, East Asia, Americas etc.) All shades of skin tones also can be found in India.
The theory states that some of the darker toned Indians went into Africa crossing the Indian ocean landing in ethiopia and also going toward Australia. The more "Asian" looking Indians went East and north eventually into Alaska on down through the Americas. The light brown skinned Indians went west and north eventually going into Europe and the Nordic regions.
The first ceremonial burial with religious overtones was in Africa 13,000 years ago. There is no evidence of an Out of India Theory.A (May 1 2009) Washington Post article reveals that Africans have the highest and most abundant genetic diversity than any group. The first anatomically erect African appeared around 200,000 years ago and it is from them that all humans descend. (cont)
One can also trace all human languages & religions to Africa. The Ethiopians settled into Northern India with their culture & religions 4,000 years before the Aryans ran them South. They were a very religious and aesthetic mystical mixture representing the diverse religious of North, East and Central Africa.
What about the latest find in Germany regarding the remains of an erect marsupial (sp?) that has humanlike hands and feet and a tail. To be honest, arguing about something like this with the so called "facts" is waisting energy. We can only guess based on the very limited information that we have. And I believe schools force us to think within barriers of knowledge and everything else is considered trash.
Perinwyr, I agree with you. In CATHOLIC science class I was taugh evolution as FACT. Recent science has proven much of this incorrect. We aren't supposed to have all the answers.
You are a delusional revisionist ! Hinduism is about 5000 years old, but Voodoo is MUCH older. Out of India theory is just YOUR theory. I am well educated in Anthropology, Archaelology, and I have a minor in World Religion. India's location is exactly what makes YOUR out of India theory implausible. It's very location is what protected it from invasion and cultural interactions with other peoples for thousands of years. Grow up !
Hinduism is the worlds oldest religion dating back to at least 1500 B.C.E. when the Aryan people migrated to Northern India where they wrote the Vedas texts. Judaism is the second oldest. Voodoo is probably the oldest shamanistic religion however.

Voodoo is NOT shamanistic. Judaism is the second oldest monotheistic religion. Zoroastrianism is the oldest monotheistic religion (Ancient Persia). After Judaism, comes Christianity, then Islam.
@cmplxgirl Yah, I bet there is a difference between Vodoun and Voodoo. But to see those sisters and bros. dancing and singing like that, it recalls gospel music and the entire blues/R&B/etc. roots of our best music. Bless them all!
You are right Wikipedia is very racist and they have deleted all of the good articles on vodou and mami wata. They have been replaced by very bad information written by stupid and ignorant whites who don't have a dam clue about african religions.
they want the religions so bad that any one black who is in the religion and do not write about whites, their work is deleted.
On what basis is Vodoun deemed to be "the oldest religion"? And if it was, what does that prove? My understanding, just off the top of my head, is that it's a mixture of West African spiritual beliefs and practices and the Christianity the African slaves encountered under slavery (and after slavery) in Haiti.
The Vodoun religion of West Africa has no Christianity mixture in it. It pre-dates Christianity as all other ancienr religions do. I don't think the statement that it is the oldest religion is trying to "prove" anything. It just is what it is.
I know a lot of the same deities revered and worshipped in contemporary Vodoun are from W. African tradition but I guess I thought the actual religion formed itself on THIS side of the Atlantic and was an amalgam of African AND Christian beliefs. Time for me to consult Wikipedia apparently.
seekingfacts is indeed right about African vodoun--their form of the religion is distinct from what is practiced in Haiti and it is native to West Africa and does not share the Christian influences and is naturally much older-- this according to the short Wikipedia article.
Have you read the Wiki article on this? The info corrected my blurring of African & Haitian vodoun so I think it served its purpose. I don't really have the time or the inclination to do further research at the moment. I've also read Maya Deren's classic study on the subject "Divine Horsemen".
