Hi, just a quick question. I am soon going to upgrade my comp so I can play Arma 2. I am upgrading from a dual core to a quad core and getting a new GC and have budgeted for the new quad CPU and Graphics card, but are there other factors in an upgrade such as this I am not aware of? I fucking love arma, it's beyond awesome, but it's hardly a FPS, and before the trolls come out, yes I'm aware you shoot guns in arma, that doesn't means it a FPS though. BF 3 will be awesome, but it's not trying 2 be a simulator, it's just trying 2 be a FPS. also BC2 has FARRRR better graphics. once again... arma = war simulator, BF/BC = realistic fun FPS.

Other games with supposedly "great" AI are either have all their actions completely scripted or have the environment aiding their decision making. ARMA 2 AI may seem retarded, but what other AI is capable of preserving it self (few exceptions, however) and thinking in a large free world?

Got this cheap off steam, was originally impressed by the graphics but thought the single player campaign was a bit odd. Only when I played onlne did I realize just how epic this game is.

If your not feeling in a shooting mood then you can jump in one of the many vehicles,cars, tanks, planes, helicopters, and spend the whole time giving people lifts from base to the warzone, Online maps are huge, way over 100km2

Comparing this to more traditional war FPS games is silly. They're completely different... saying that COD and the like requires no strategy is a fallacy, but it certainly doesn't require the strategy the like of ARMA. They're completely different and good in their own way, I like both... if I want a quick fun game, then COD is great, ARMA2 is a completely different experience.

This is a military combat SIMULATOR. The key word is SIMULATOR. Check out the differences between Lock On FC2 & DCS: Black Shark. You can play with both game on 1 server as clients, but FC2 is more like an arcade style (the hud is not interactive), while DCS:BS is a completely real simulation. It's aviation and the fully detailed cockpit is fully interactive.

Same style, also the same engine, but the two games have major differences. So the conclusion is: play with simulators like ARMA2 or DCS: Black Shark, if you want the real deal! Play with arcade-style (non-realistic) games like COD or BC2 if you want to see stunning gfx, and a lots of ragdolls.

@toofofo as far as i know, its for PS3, X360 and PC, though in order to really enjoy the game on a computer, it gotta be good when it comes to graphics, ram, suond etc. Also i dont advice you to play it on a laptop, its just to heavy for a normal lappy to handle it xD

@flightrulez personally i have a Alienware, but that might be a bit expensive, i would however, advice you to have a computer bought/upgraded with new components within the last 7 months to enjoy it fully, but thats just my opinion. main problem for alot of people when it comes to games like ARMA, is that its so heavy on the ram that it can easily lag if you have to little RAM. I've tried to play it on a 2gb ram comp and it wasnt pleasent - 4gb is adviceable for full graps :P

@tomtomwolfwolf We are in fact using a simulator, used by military forces world over for training, and a larger percentage of the ArmA community are active/former military than any other game out there. You ask how it is close to war, that is kind of funny seeing as I have been in games where afgan/iraq veterans get the chills from things before even getting into any combat, that is how close it can look. This doesn't just have potential, this is a creative medium in itself. BF is just any game.
