@hitrohit2001 I guess you are right. Its just that dismissing Vettori as just another number 7 - 8 batsman would be unfair. He has mounted so many fightbacks from impossible looking situations. Plus his career average doesn't indicate his present form. He was a horrible batsman when he started out, but has improved considerably.

He's developed his batting abilities remarkably over the last few years. Statistics are ok for anoraks and beer fuelled debates on long winter evenings.

The fact that Aamer felt the need to take pops at DV is a tribute to his enhanced prowess with the bat.

My previous comment was A reply. I commented on "whether vettori is best or not". I didn't mean that Vettori isn't a good batsman. He has 8 above 90 scores in Tests.

I think debates go long coz of lack of statistical data. If we go without stats and analysis then Gillespie's 209 is better than Alistair Cook's any 13 hundreds.

Vettori is definitely better than many genuine batsmen who have played at international level.
