You're mistaken if you think the emphasis is meant to be on the second syllable.

It's the American accents.

Usually, people use the American pronunciations of Japanese names, as it sounds awkward when you try to attempt the Japanese pronunciation without a Japanese accent. Listen to how Hayate's name is said in the Japanese version.

I don't see why folk are saying the English voices are bad, in which way are they bad? Zack sounds like a black guy unlike his japanese voice.

@kev95 One of the bigger problems with the English dubbing, for me, is the tone used by Kasumi's voice actress. In Japanese, she sounds kind of timid and reluctant to be fighting, which suits her character as a sheltered ninja-princess willfully abandoning her village and friends to avenge her brother. English Kasumi, on the other hand, just sounds like your boiler-plate had-enough-of-this-bullshit "badass." Although I do love Zack's English voice over his Japanese one.

@kev95 And there's also Helena, but the two good performances aren't enough to balance out the fact that Kasumi's VA is going by her movie persona, Yuri Lowenthal and Wende Lee as Yuri Lowenthal and Wende Lee, and the complete lack of effort to at least pretend that Hitomi's supposed to have been born and raised in Germany. At least with Japanese I can at least pretend that an attempt at a German accent is being made, since I don't know the language well enough to pick up on it.

I would say the majority of the English cast suit their characters, the only one I don't like is Alpha with her high pitched voice, I suppose it was to differentiate her from Kasumi but it's still annoying. I do like the southern accent they had for Tina and Bass.

@kev95 The high pitched voice I mentioned is one of the reasons I don't like the Japanese voices espically when it comes to female characters, I suppose other's may find them "cute" i just find it grating, but I'll grant you that Kasumi's JP voice is well done.

@kev95 Well I'd only call Zack's and Helena's "Good," and about half of the other ones are simply "Servicable" and the rest are "bad," for varying reasons like the ones I mentioned above. And I don't really notice the high-pitched voices in Japanese, but then again I've been a PowerPuff Girls fan for roughly as long as I can remember, so maybe I just have a higher tolerance for them.

The game seem really cool, I wished they would had add english dubb along time ago, with the japanese dubbing. Hopefully in Dead or alive 5, they will give us that option to hear both language with the subtitles :D
