  • IRON MAIDEN SHOULD PLAY THESE 8 STRINGS!

  • @MADEINMAIDEN Iron Maiden couldn't handle 8 string.

  • I'm gonna play this song called Straws Pulled at Random. It goes like this..." Boing boing buh boing boing booong

  • @NecroButcher91 hahahahaha....aww man that shits hilarious, u sound just like this moron, all that build up for that, i thought it was a joke but hes serious

  • Cheap bastards.

A 15 watt crappy little amp would've done!

  • agreed lol

  • These guys are so nice.

  • So thats the guy that said that Nightwish was not metal :D:D

    He is funny!

I dont agree, but much respect for Meshuggah!

  • How comes no one can spell his name right? M-Å-R-T-E-N_H-A-G-S-T-R-Ö-M show him some respect man!

  • @NoaOno cuz on american keyboards you can't do the little marks above the letter without pushing alt and a certain keypad number on the number pad thing to the right. i heard international keyboards have the letters for those but not sure. never seen one. not in america atleast.

  • @metaldemonseanknels It was a joke.

  • this guy looks like a joke and sounds like one

  • @oldschoolHalen and you have poop in your face, very much poop in face.

  • @Megarokk HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHVERYMUCHPOOPLOLOLOLTOTOTOTROLOLOLO!

  • @oldschoolHalen youre an asshole

  • @oldschoolHalen hahaha what does that even mean? what should he look like? your guitar playing is the real joke.

  • good amp!......

  • @faaip0de0oaid best amp I know of

  • I didn't know he had an RG2228, i thought he only had his custom ones

  • @Connor391 it is his custom, not big of a difference, he uses a nech thu, lundgren pick up (only bridge) and its satin

  • im selling my RG2228 8 string ibanez on ebay right now.

here is the item # 280427977323

  • I don't think he's picking the strings hard enough

  • yea cause you can hear that without him pluggin in?.. have you ever seen them live? belive me he knows how to pick... jeez the comments people get themselves to write... ps try to pick the bleed rythm whole song, with hard pickstrokes... RSI will happen.. Hagström doesnt pick hard enough.. hilarious!

  • I'm saying he should try to make it louder if he's not plugged in

  • i thought it was funny not using an amp.

  • the biggest way to tell that its NOT the factory standard is that is has 1 pickup and no fret inlays.

  • plus the rg2228 comes in F#

  • @gibbsies ... he dropped the tuning down. You can buy an RG 2228 and drop it down to E if you want.

  • i know i have an esp ltd fm 418 i can drop it to E as well but its not as sterdy, u can drop them down to a low Bb if u really want like on the song spasm, except they did that with 7 strings on the unremastered version O.o donno how the fuck they managed to do that but oh well there fucking crazy

  • Bass string on bottom..

  • oh ya i guess that would work

  • Give the man an amp.

  • why does this video have such a high rating.

    Vido Quality = not good/watchable.

    Audio = Epic Fail.

all i heard were the pathetic scrapes of a soundless guitar.

  • bad lighting and its not in an amp

  • He spent all of his money on that custom guitar and couldent afford an amp.

  • Its amazing how well Mårten speaks english. (and Haake too)

If i didn't knew they was swedish like me (and from the north part to top it all ) i would think he was a typical american.

  • hes swedish?

  • from what I've heard they pretty much grow up with both swedish and english as languages

  • In sweden we start to learn english quite early in school, and we basically don't dub anything except kids movies to swedish.

  • Correct me if im wrong, but isnt there parts of Sweden that are bi-lingual? like when raring children they'd switch between using English and Swedish, so their children are sort of conditioned into speaking both languages?...

I dont know...I heard that somewhere lol hahaha

  • No, not officially but there are ofcourse people who do that. But english is mandatory to learn in swedish schools.

  • the moment he strummed the guitar, I was expecting some explosion, then I kinda lol'ed

  • Makes the video kinda pointless without it plugged in. All I hear is him picking the strings not the notes :/:/:/

  • I like hot Marty says how playing regular chords is limiting. Very true.

  • lol i meant "how*" lol the facial hair totally doesn't do it for me.

but yeah, what he said was very true. chords are kind of slow compared to what you can do with single notes. the low end is thick enough to make chords useless down there. 8 string stuff already sounds like you're using chorus or an octavider.

  • Hey may not have used an amp, but it was broadcast for the french originaly..so he obviously didnt care at the time, why should he =D, that way he doesnt get frenchies immitating his songs

  • This is awesome, but I wish he had plugged in to an amp.

  • Dude you obviously havent listened to much some of the best musicians alive. And they are amazingly original.

  • Meshuggah isn't about being technical. Marten Hagstrom actually hates music that relies on technical ability.

  • You seem to forget that meshuggah gave birth to the whole tech metal shit, i think they know what the are doing

  • i forgot there was nothing technical about 3 simultaneous polyrhythms. idiot.

  • DUDE. It was a MONTH ago let it go. Plus it was marked as SPAM so you had to actually go down the list and click Show. So grow up and quit fighting stupid fights with people. I don't like Meshuggah so what?

  • because what you said was so incredibly stupid i had to put you om you place

  • fucking bad ass

  • LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH! (straws pulled at random)

    NOTHING is ownage.

  • it may sound stupid without an amp you guys, but remember, Meshuggah have some of the most bonecrushing songs..

  • Dude... hahaha! he didn't use an amp! lol! You can still hear the rhythms but damn that's fuck'n funny!

  • Dude! can I have lessons??? LMAO

  • fuck you man, you don't know shit about technical guitar if you don't appreciate meshuggah.

  • Fuck yourself metalcore wannabe

  • i think i speak for everyone when i say no one really cares what you think music is music man if you dont like it shut the fuck up about it and let other people apreciate it

  • Hmm... probably would sound better with an amp.

  • are you guys fucking deaf how can u not hear it. It's also easier when you listen to the songs like real fans, makes it easier to make out what he's playing.

  • Usually I never have respect for rythm guitarists, but for Meshuggah, WOW.

  • Couldn't they have hooked him up with an amp for this?

  • lmfao you cant hear it at all what the hell

  • why the hell is he not plugged in?

  • Agree hahahahahahahahaha

  • First off it sounds like shit when he is playing oh an electic 8 string guitar with no amp. Listen to meshuggah as a whole. They are by far my fav.band. The past 4 releases they have done are superb. Watch some of Tomas Haakes videos on you tube....OUT OF CONTROL.

  • LOLOL i dont see you naming a band! fag!

  • Marten is awesome but i prefer Fredrik, Meshuggah rulez ;D

  • xPyroPunk93x name a band better than meshuggah without making me piss myself then?

o and stop coming back to this fucking video if you cant stand it you fucking idiot.

  • Everyone of you saying he is horrible, you are dumbasses. Meshuggah is not a very fretboard-technical band all of the time, and I would be willing to bet any of you haters in here would die if you tried to play one of their songs in time. Fuck you guys.

  • are you fucking serious? you're saying that the shit that he's playing is talented? LOL

  • That's exactly what I'm saying. I dare you to go out and buy a 7 string guitar, tune it down to F, and play one of their songs (believe me, Straws Pulled at Random is one of their easiest songs) on time, without a mistake. It's practically impossible. Listen to "Bleed" or hell, even "Future Breed Machine." Meshuggah will have more talent than you ever will. Speed doesn't make a guitarist talented. Its the music itself. I could go up and down the fretboard picking fast, but does it sound good?

  • i never said that speed makes the guitarist good, i don't believe that AT ALL. i can't stand metal etc. but how do you think this is hard to play? all dead notes, and then a power cord every 15 seconds, and you're saying it's impossible? LOL.

  • Have you heard the actual song? It sounds amazing, and unless you've listened to the song a shit ton or made it yourself, its practically impossible to play on time and replicate yourself. What these guys do is amazing.

  • are u retarded. go watch the bleed video. meshuggah has some of the best musicians in the world of heavy music.

  • lol. listen to their song bleed, and then find a guitarist who can play the pattern for a few seconds without their wrist giving out, let alone the whole 7 minutes.

  • the best math teacher in the world this man... awesome rhythm..

  • oh my god he is fucking terrible i can't stand watching this

  • go fuck yourself then. nobody gives a shit what you think

  • Meshuggah are really innovative and interesting. This video wasn't for him to show off or make you drool... As he said, it was just to demo why they use the Ibanez RG2228. Anyway, when the distortion is really pumping it's really hard to hear what they are doing.

  • NO! He should NOT play with an amp. It's nice to be able to catch up a little on his technique without all the effects ond distortion. It just muddles it all.

  • lol its sounds like shit with no amp and drums

  • Hail Meshuggah!

  • yeah... why not plug it in???

sounds shite like that, and if you are not familiar with the piece you'd have no idea what he is playing

  • i know its sounds gay unplugged

  • The shit thing in it, is that 8 string doesn't sounds too good on a simple half stack, or any amp. That's why Meshuggah uses Line6 Vetta II head (which is a digital amp, so it's cool for the low FX string, the 8th string) and after the Vetta amplified the guitar, they send it straight to the PA system. So it's a line out amplifing. Of course it would sounded better with an half stack amp, even if it's not to good for the F# string. I think they use headphones through the rheresals.

  • rhythm monster.

  • Plug in that motherfucker.. Damm.

where that amp. .it sucks unplugged.

  • What the F was that! Chicken scratch to me...

Amplify and re do this vid.

  • plug it in dude

  • He should play WITH an amp :(

  • "That muffled thing"? Thats real technical. Haha. I think he means palm muting. Haha.

  • oh excuse him for not using the correct terminology either way i think people new what he meant

  • Thats why I put haha, cuz I was joking. People take stuff way too seriously on YouTube. I'm a guitar player and I know what he meant as I'm sure others do too.

  • sounds like shit without an amp but i FUCKIN LOVE MESHUGGAH

  • wow!that sound is amazing!!!

  • Can you buy this guitar? I couldn't find it on the Ibanez web site.

  • yes it is $1500

  • THIS GUITAR IS CUSTOM. sick of people thinking the rg2228 is the same guitar. martens guitars neck is three inches longer which is optimal for the clarity of the low 8th string, something ibanez compromised with the rg8 .............

  • Yup cscarp4503 is right..

That guitar is a LACS Ibanez with a 30 inch neck and a lundgren bridge pickup while the Ibanez RG2228 has a 27 inch neck and 2 EMG 808's.

  • GIVE HIM A FUCKIN AMP

  • At 58sec it looks like he's finally acknowledged to himself "I really need an amp. This sounds like shit."

  • XD right

  • I love how he is chugging with no amp and talks about the sweet tone. Hail Meshuggah.

  • I love the first two cd's. But all the hype about there abilty is going to far. Talented maybe, I have no problem learning there songs. But i am a more 6 string E flat tuning type of person.

  • whats so good about this man's playing.

  • I guess you've never head a Meshuggah cd in your life then. Try buying one and cranking it at your house.

  • i saw this guitar bout a week ago, played it, but it wasnt what i expected, as much as i love ibanez, that guitar could be better

  • I play the first part and go into the verse a bit. (TWANG, TWANG! TA TWANG! TWANG!) 7 strings seemed intense but it grew on me. Now I love 7 string guitars. 8 string is fuckin stupid. It needs bass pickups for the 8th string. You might as well just by a flippin double neck guitar with a 6 string on bottom and bass at the top.

  • dude i don't know where you are getting your facts but you most certainly don't need a bass pickup. it's been done but only cause accessability not necessity. and if two necks if more convenient than one neck, congratulations, for that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. spare us your idealism.

  • i think they should have planned the interview better before they got him in, because showing that without amplification isn´t really doing anything... although it is interesting, and doesen´t help my GAS :P

  • He doesn't really sound foreign to me at all.

  • pllllluugg iitt in!!!!!!!!!!

  • That thing sounds like a bass that wants to be smashed to peaces

  • Fuck this

  • fuck you

  • damn dude turn your amp down that shit is too loud

  • nice amp

  • wtf go buy a amp and then come back and do it again jackass

  • .....No amp?

  • Fuck you Messhugah sucks!!! that all

  • you don't have an ampli ?? xD

  • he actually gets the scale wrong... he doesen´t know too much about the technicalities of their instruments, he just plays them :P

    it´s 30" scale :)

  • for deeper, sinister metal but CAN u use a .90

is it possible if you get the short scale bass version

would the tone be impaired or would it fit through the small hole at the neck

    would power/chords be possible

  • I have a 25,5" scale guitar and I tuned to F# with a 0.75. A little floppy for my taste, but it was OK. You cannot do power chords on the F#, it doesn's sounds allright. The powerchords start sounding OK from third fret (A).

  • Would you get a .90 string on that?

  • For what? You have a huge scale there, you can use a lighter string.

  • mate, wheres the amp and how big is the 8th string? e.g .60 .50 etc

  • IIRC he uses a 0.70. He compensates it with the long scale (32").

  • Very interesting.

Why do people keep saying his guitar uses EMG's?

    watch whole the vid.

  • 6 strings aren't gay bro. A lot of great guitarists use them. And 8 strings are pretty cool too.

  • I have one of my guitars set up with super heavy strings and tuned down one and a half step, I can assure you it doesn't sound gay :)

  • PS Preferrably with Lundgren pickup/s.

  • yea man im definetly getting one of those fuckers in the near furture. but i will have to play one first

  • That 8th string sounds awfully rattly...

  • all i hear is string farting sound.....

  • Yea he need's a damn amp!

I see alot of "famous" guitar players in guitar one and around the net just playing. Why have we yet to see Marten banging out a heavy riff and Fredrik doing one of his Holdsworth inspired solo's?

I would cream myself to see a 10 minute guitar lesson with Meshuggah **Hint Hint,, Guitar one**

  • The reason behind the 8 string is the octave obviously, i find it interesting to be on the 8th string on D(3rdfret) and have the octave on the 6th string D (5th fret). With the extended scale you can very much add alot of colour to your playing with a hole new octave to hamrmonize against.

  • Yeah that's pretty stupid... PLUG THE DAMN THING IN... jesus... no 10 watt amps hanging around?

  • peace of shit)

  • lol, 8 strings....alright mate, haven't you got enough?

  • hes got an 8-string ibanez with EMG 808 pickups designed specifically for heavy music n he doesnt even plug the fucker in!? wtf is this?

  • I don't know why he didn't plug it. But the pickups it's a Lundgren M8.

  • well they look like 808s n i thought 808s came as default with the rg2228 so...

  • lundgren don't look like emg (emg are bigger and lundgren are passive pickups) and this is not a rg2228 so...

  • What a fucking shit. Why the fuck do u want an 8 string guitar with EMG pickups to play it whithout amp !?!¿?! ridiculous...

  • He knows how it sounds, dude. We are the ones that we want to listen it!

  • He CLEARLY FUCKING STATES hes going to demonstrate HOW they use the guitar on the Nothing-album. The video is for people interested in JUST THAT FFS.

  • they are not emgs. they are lundgren handwound pickups. none of his guitars have and ever will have emgs.

  • I've being waiting to see what an 8 string can do. But why did he play it unplugged?

  • I don't know man, buy you can listen to it on any Meshuggah live video, of catch 33 album.

I'm on a forum, sevenstring dot org it's about seventrings and ERG, you'r going to like it.

  • I've heard of that forum coz I'm on the Ibanez forum. But I haven't been there for a while. I'd like an 8 String, just there's nowhere I can try one first so its a bit of a gamble.

  • You can also check this guitar sound on "ASESINO - regresando odio" videoclip. Its on youtube
